Manzanares River

Ecological problems and how to solve them.

Where am I? I’m born Guadarrama’s sierra, exactly in Cuerda Larga

(North of Madrid), and I’m an affluent of Jarama’s river (Tagus’s affluent). Between my source and Monte del Pardo (Mountain) set up Cuenca Alta del Manzanares Regional Park. I flow into Rivas Vaciamadrid. My path is 92km and I cross the Pedriza Park too.

Do you know something about my history?

In the prehistory their terraces where used for planting. In the 17th century, it was thought to make navigable

the river, but after studiying the posibilities the idea was rejected.

In the 20th century Manzanares river was an important defensive line during the Spanish Civil War in Madrid.

Nowadays we have Madrid Río.

Manzanares river has appeared in literature and art.

I have some friends, do you want to meet them?

My friend “plant life” has a lot of components but the principal one is the pine.

My friend “fauna” has got a lot of friends too like mammals, fishes, reptils, fowl and amphibians.

But, I have some problems. Know them and

help me.I’ve got some pollutants because of the treatment

system saturation.We should try not to saturate too much the

treatment system.

The neglect of the Butarque channel (One of the river’s parts). It’s full of rubbish.

We propose to organize a cleaning campaign to solve Butarque’s problem.

It’s great! The Spanish team have helped me to solve these problems.

My problems are solved!
