Evaluation
“Carlisle’s Culture Bazaar was one of the most engaging events I’ve
attended in recent years! All participants were eager and keen to stay for
the duration, and even happy to give an impromptu performance at the end,
which is a huge credit to the feel of the day - there was nothing scary about
performing something learnt in just half an hour in front of a good-sized
audience! Overall, the space was a safe environment to both be yourself
and to try new things, and everywhere you looked there were smiling faces.
Absolutely super!” Mary Dunsford, Harps North West

Different methods of evaluation were used to collate data to
assist in developing a map of communities on an international
and local level.
Mapping activity:
We asked visitors to mark the:
The country/(ies) on world map that they are
from and their heritage/s;
The town or city they live in the UK;
The town they come from in Cumbria;
The area in Carlisle & District they live in;
Social media: Our website, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and
Snapchat
CB Passport: We asked visitors to record their
visits to activities and stalls by adding a sticker
or stamp to the passport for each activity. This
allowed for comments by visitors and questions
on our marketing brand promotion routes.
Some of the comments have been included in
this report.
Graffiti Wall: A large graffiti material wall was
placed near the performance area to encourage
visitors to draw, write, & express themselves
however they wanted in relation to CB2018.
Visitors were keen to talk to the Management
Team, with an OVERWHELMING positive response to Culture
Bazaar and the tangible sense of community and a unique
friendly and happy atmosphere unlike any other.
Monitoring & Evaluation
Introduction
After five years away, Culture Bazaar
2018 came back with a bang!
The thirst to experience world cultures is
more in demand than ever!
Culture Bazaar is a simple community
idea. Sharing our similarities and
celebrating our differences TOGETHER!
No matter where in the world you are from, Culture Bazaar
embraces everyone through food, music, dance, arts and
sports. We do not charge an entry fee as we want the whole
community to share, engage and experience the international
diaspora on our doorstep, to breakdown barriers and promote
community cohesion, tolerance and understanding.
Thank you to our funders, sponsors and in-kind support.
Volunteers are the reason Culture Bazaar happens and the
tangible atmosphere of respect, acceptance, excitement and
unity is evident at Culture Bazaar. We are committed to
celebrating the talent, culture and communities we have living
and working in Cumbria. All our performers except two came
from within Cumbria demonstrating the richness of skills and
talent in Cumbria. The spirit of Cumbria is warm and infectious!
Next year CB2019 is on 16 and 17 February 2019 at Richard
Rose Central Academy, Carlisle! Not one but two full days of
culture to kick start the half term with a bang! Please contact us
if you would like to get involved in any way. WE CAN’T WAIT!

Volunteer Thanks
Young People at CB2018
MCC value and actively encourage the contribution of young
people for Culture Bazaar. We introduced the Welfareez, a
team of young people led by Rowan Borgia, aged 11, who
attended Culture Bazaar in CB2008! Their job was to look out
for the welfare of the Participants/Volunteers who couldn't leave
their posts. They also offered help when needed and guided
the visitors to different activities and stamped their passports!
They also helped with setting up the venue prior to the event
itself.
