for their new decking addition.
We moved on to the classrooms
where we participated in and
watched some really fun experi-
ments in our study of air, atmos-
phere and weather. A CSIRO
teacher walked the students
through a variety of experi-
ments: the first to prove that air
is real and that it takes up space.

This week the senior class
went into orange for a trip to
learn about science. The sci-

Class News
Senior Class
This week we have been studying fractions
and decimals. We have been looking at add-
ing, subtracting and multiplying fractions
and looking at equivalent fractions. We have
also been hard at work with our oral reading
fluency program. We have started reading a
class novel called, “Blood Brothers” by Carole
Wilkinson. In writing we have been under-
taking internet research projects. Ms Lane is
currently undertaking reading testing of the
senior class.
Junior Class
In the infants class we have been working on
our Literacy Planet activities. Literacy Planet is
one of the computer programs we use and
we are able to do our spelling lists and activi-
ties on here.
We spent this morning working on Toontastic
with the primary students. We have to create
a story and animate it on the iPad.
In art we have been experimenting with wa-
ter colour paints, we are having a lot of fun
creating different colours and artworks.

helped test the properties of
heating and cooling of air
using boiling and cooled
water. We also tested the

ties of air and how this af-

fects the weather and temperature—using liq-
uid nitrogen and balloons we were able to see
the affects temperatures have on air and air
movement. The whole session was fantastic
and the students were really engaged with the
program and learned a great deal about how
our weather is affected by a variety of factors.
The Storyteller’s Chair
The students had a busy day on Monday—firstly
the CSIRO science day and then they arrived
back at school to make the journey to St Jo-
sephs for the travelling show—”The Story
Teller’s Chair”. The performer, Bronwyn, was
exceptional and entertained the students with
four stories that were told with enthusiasm
and lashings of excitement. The first story was
based on the children’s big book—”The Hun-
gry, Hungry Caterpillar”, the second was based
on an Indian Parable, the third on an Aborigi-
nal Story of Mardie and the last was based on a
true story about a young Jewish girl caught
up in the chaos of the Nazis terror during
WWII. Thoroughly entertaining and wonder-
fully exciting for the students.
OSSA Soccer Knockout Competition
Hugh, Dylan and Ben all members of the OSSA
soccer team competed recently in the Western
Region Knock-Out soccer competition. They
played three games over the course of the day,
however they were knocked out in the first
game, but went on to win the other two
“friendly” matches. All three boys played really
well and helped contribute to the success on
the day. Well done boys.
Preschool Visits
During weeks 8 and 9 we had the pre-school
children (next years kindergarten students) visit
the infants classroom. Miss Vicki , Amaya, Claire,
Zoe, Rhianna and Lachlan visited on Wednes-
days of both weeks. The children joined in on art
activities, handwriting and other activities. We
are looking forward to the preschool children
joining us again next term or orientation.
