Twice the Bless ing By Sydni Ayers, MCS Alumni, Class of 2015

I have worked at Twice Treasured Thrift (thrift store with proceeds

going to MCS to help lower tuition costs) since June of 2017. Some of

my duties have included working the register, pricing and putting

items out on the floor, setting up displays, straightening (or as we

call it, “fluffing”) existing displays, sorting through donations, and

the list goes on. However, the things that the store has done for me

far outweigh the things that I have done for the store.

See, the thing about working at Twice Treasured is that no two days

are ever the same. For starters, we have a different crew of volun-

teers each day of the week. Monday has a completely different dy-

namic than Tuesday, Tuesday is much different than Thursday, and

so on and so forth. Over the past fifteen months, I have been so

blessed by our volunteers and staff. Every day is filled with good

conversation, collaborative problem solving, and an overall sense of

community. I recall one time very recently when, as I was getting

ready to leave the store to go to my afternoon class up at MSU, I

realized that I had locked my keys in my car. I had pretty much de-

cided that I would be skipping class that day and that I would deal

with the key issue after the store closed, but our faithful leader (no

pun intended), Faith Dyksterhouse, let me borrow her car so that I

would not have to miss class. While I was gone, one of the volun-

MCS Preschool and Kindergarten classes took their annual

field trip to the Montana Corn Maze on Wednesday, October

10. The overall atmosphere was filled with excitement and joy

all around—and this was quite visible in all their little faces,

ready for adventure. The kids enjoyed a tractor-pulled wagon

ride through stubble fields from the farm to the maze, with the

beautiful Bridger Mountains as the back drop. The brisk breeze

was just enough of a reminder that fall is certainly here in Mon-

tana, and it made this seasonal field trip a bit more lively and

crisp. At the mini maze, kids took part in a team scavenger hunt

for farm animals hidden throughout the corn rows, to discover

the culprit of ‘who stole the tractor.’

The four-wheeler pulled barrel train seemed to be one of the

more popular events, especially for the Preschoolers. Pure de-

light was clearly evident in their demeanors as they ‘steered’

their individual barrels riding on the “Little Husk Express.”

Days like these are a visible reminder of how important it is for

kids to get outside and discover all of God’s creations. These experienc-

es allow them to explore their environment, be physically active, and

simply play—such important factors in their development at this age.

teers used the resources that she had to safely get the keys out of my car. The staff and volunteers at Twice Treasured truly care

about each other.

In the time that the store has been open, it has also built up quite the community of customers.

Some are regulars, like a group of three women who come in every Thursday afternoon follow-

ing their Bible Study, some come in when they can, and some are travelers who just saw our sign

and decided to check us out. I would not have considered myself a “people person” when I started

this job, and maybe I still wouldn’t, but I have truly loved getting to know some of these custom-

ers. One in particular stands out to me as someone who I have truly built a relationship with. She

comes in fairly often, and when she does, she always has an agenda. She is always shopping for

either a friend’s birthday, or new home décor to match whichever color is her “theme color of

the month” as she calls it. I have had so much fun poking around the store with her looking for

something that fits her agenda and her taste (which is very exotic, for lack of a better word).

Whenever she comes in, she always lets me know how much fun she is having, and how good it is

to see me, and how nice the store is. In fact, that is the most popular reaction to our store. It is so

encouraging to hear from customers, both regulars and visitors, how nice the store looks, how

organized and clean it is, how nice the merchandise is, and how much they appreciate the cause.

Those are the comments that we love to share with our hardworking volunteers who make the

store that way. Those kinds of comments are what make me excited to go to work every day.

Thank you to everyone who has volunteered, shopped, donated, and prayed for the store. You

have all been a huge blessing to me, and to the rest of the staff. And to everyone who has not

volunteered, shopped, and/or donated to Twice Treasured Thrift, consider this your invitation!

Twice Treasured Thrift is open Monday through Saturday from 10 AM-5 PM. Donations

are accepted from 10 AM to 4 PM.

Rotary Student of the Month for September, Mariah Leum “I am a senior at Manhattan Christian School, after graduation my plans are to attend MSU and major in elemen-

tary education. One of my favorite high school accomplishments was getting the whole high school involved in

the building of two wheelchairs for ROC Wheels, and then taking the wheelchairs to give on a mission trip to

Mexico during spring break. I am honored to be selected as the Rotary student of the month.” —Mariah Leum,

Senior at MCS (pictured right)

Rotary Student of the Month for October, Heidi Hager “Hi! My name is Heidi Hager. I am the daughter of Rob and Julie Hager, and I am honored to be this October's

Rotary Student of the Month. I have been involved in pep band and chapels at my school for all four years of high

school. Outside of school, I enjoy working hard, volunteering in my community, serving in my church, and cre-

ating all sorts of crafts to use or sell. After high school, I hope to attend college and pursue a career in which I can

use my gifts and talents for God's glory.” —Heidi Hager, Senior at MCS (pictured right)

It’s looking like all things fall at Twice

Treasured. Stop by to shop the fall items,

and much more!

6025, or Jodi Venema at 282-7028.

The second annual antique tractor show, “Touch A Trac-

tor,” will be a part of the Harvest Festival activities again this

year. This event was created with the hopes to acquaint children

and adults with our agricultural heritage. A display of old and

new farm equipment will be featured. Since many of our stu-

dents and parents are not living on farms any longer, the pur-

pose of this display is to show the steady development of farm

equipment over the years. Farm machinery was used to help our

farm families make a living, and therefore to support Manhattan

Christian School.

Be sure to check out the display of old and new farm equipment

on October 27 from 10 AM—3 PM at Manhattan Christian

School. Admission is free.
