Manchester Day 2016: Eureka! Sunday 19th June 2016

Call for groups in South Manchester!

Local meeting being held: Tuesday 15th March 6pm - 7pm Fallowfield Library (The Place), Room 3, Platt Lane, M14 7FB

Eureka! – Join us as we put wonder, invention and curiosity at the heart of Manchester Day 2016.

With your help on Sunday 19 June 2016, together we will transform Manchester’s city centre streets and squares into a vibrant party of music, outdoor theatre and procession, celebrating our city and what it means to be Mancunian.

We are looking for community groups, volunteers and organisations in South Manchester to be part of Manchester Day 2016 and work with us with energy, enthusiasm and commitment to create an amazing day.

The theme is Eureka! – ‘I’ve found it!’ - the sudden, unexpected realisation of the solution to a problem. Think about a time when you’ve had your own ‘lightbulb moment’ of discovery….

What could Eureka! mean to you?

Manchester as a pioneering city that’s still at the forefront of modern discovery, European City of Science for 2016 and home of the National Graphene Institute.

Archimedes, the Ancient Greek mathematician, who is reported to have sat in his bathtub shouting Eureka!

Moments of sudden inspiration in everyday life – from solving an equation in your maths’ homework to thinking of the answer to a question in your local quiz.

A celebration of the history of Manchester as the first industrial city and its history of pioneering spirit, from vegetarianism, atomic theory, competitive football to British dance music.

Artists will work with you to help turn your ideas into reality from giant puppet characters, carnival costumes, and fantastic floats, to amazing music, dance and performance across the city.

Groups can work together before the day itself and develop creative ideas inspired by the theme to decorate, animate and perform in the Manchester Day squares or design a float or image, make costumes, or play music as part of the parade.

"Walk the Plank" will give you professional support from an artist and a co-ordinator to develop your creative idea.

Some groups may play music, or already have costumes or a float that fit with the theme.

If you would like to get involved, please attend our South Group Meeting to hear how you can help celebrate Manchester together on...

Tuesday 15th March, 6pm - 7pm at Fallowfield Library (The Place), Room 3, Platt Lane, Manchester M14 7FB
