Treatment of Organically impacted soils / sludges / solids • Co funding through Vic EPA HazWaste funding; • Stand alone facility adjacent to traditional treatment facility • ~ 12,000 to 20,000 tonnes per annum; • Indirect heating (no chance of uncontrolled combustion); • Nitrogen blanket for anoxic heating conditions; • 2 by 10m3 dryers; • Water / oil / sediment phases separated; • No upper limit on Total Organic Carbon (TOC); • Oil phase up to 380° centigrade; • Vacuum applied volatilises even BaP; • 99.5 % organic recovery for SBR, not product destruction; • Environmental best outcome (highest order level of treatment).

BROOKLYN CONVENTIONAL TREATMENT TECHNOLOGY
Treatment of impacted soils / sludges / solids / slurries / liquids • Traditional Larox Belt press; • Stand alone facility adjacent to ITDU treatment facility • ~ 30,000 to 35,000 tonnes per annum; • Chemical fixation; • H2SO4 and CaO; • Mix forms a Gypsum bind CaSO42H20; • Locks water into the mix ~40 to 50 % by weight; • Reduced the leachability of any contaminant (within reason); • Reduces Cat A material to Cat B based on ASLP’s not total
concentrations; • Some output material is suitable for ITDU; • Antiquated but effective technology for treatment, especially
for inorganic species.

Composting is the decomposition or degradation of organic matter using
aerobic bacteria, fungus and other organisms
