"Asked by local reporters concerningthe recent clashes between the police and theMoslems that seem to be spreading to other cities,Malcolm X stated:

"Islam is the religion of peace. Ourpeople must awaken and realize that these displaysof brutal savagery by the police throughout thecountry are not directed against any particulargroup among the socalled Negroes. These inhumanattacks against our people follow a general pattern, and aredlrected against all elements of our peoplehere in America.

"The root of the trouble, and centerof the arena is in Washington, D. C., where themodern day Pharoah's Magicians are putting ona great show, fooling most or the so~ca1ledNeroes, by pretending to be divided against eachother, fighting in our behalf but always it is awell planned losing battle--with the Master

"Launching into a bitter criticism andreodmination against those who are playing with thelives and the rights of the Negro people in blockingeffecive legislation on Civil Rights, Mr. X said Itis not American Foreign Policy that decides who willget the 'chair,' but rather her Domestic Policy.
