HONDA BANKS ON THE FUTURE
Boon Siew Honda Sdn Bhd, the market leader in the Malaysian motorcycle industry in the past
decade, is aiming to retain their leadership position with its latest offering, the Honda ‘Future’.
With the Malaysian motorcycle market expected to grow by 4 to 6% in 2012 and 2013, Boon
Siew Honda is banking on the ‘Future’ by introducing a new moped capable of traveling a
maximum distance of 338 kilometers with one full tank (tested by ECE 40 Mode), the first of its
kind in the country.
“Despite growing trends in automatic transmissions, the trusty moped is still the mainstay of the
motorcycle business in Malaysia. Consumer demands may have shifted, with more focus on the
aesthetics, but the underlying pre-requisite of a safe and comfortable ride has remained
unchanged for decades. This is why we believe that the ‘Future’ will appeal to consumers young
and old alike with its trendy looks, fuel efficiency and practical features,” said Mr. Satoshi
Okada, Managing Director of Boon Siew Honda Sdn Bhd.
In 2011, Boon Siew Honda reported a market share of 44%. With the launch of the Honda
‘Future’, the company is projecting to grow its market share with a sales target of shifting 3,500
units per month.
The Honda ‘Future’ boasts of a bigger U-box to accommodate a full-face helmet, bigger 5.6 liter
fuel tank (as opposed to the 3.7 liter capacity of the previous generation), and a new 4-stroke
SOHC 125cc air-cooled engine that allows users to save up to 7.6% in fuel consumption as
compared to the Wave 125 X Ultimo. Other features include wider seats, rear LED lights and a
sporty speedometer.
… cont
Priced from RM 5,578 to RM 5,998 (recommended-on-the-road), the Honda Future is expected
to rise up to the popularity of Honda’s reliable long-time workhorse, the Honda EX-5.
Depending on their requirements, consumers will be able to choose from three distinct variants
of the same model. Variant 1 features an electric starter, spoke, and front disc brakes; Variant 2
boasts sporty wheels, electric starter and front disc brakes; whilst Variant 3 combines the electric
starter, sporty wheels and front and rear disc brakes. All three variants come in choices of three
colours – Coral Orange Metallic, Pearl Magellanic Black and Euphoria Red Metallic.
ADVANCED FEATURES:
Thoughtful Practicality
The Honda Future includes a number of practical features, chief of which is the larger 19 liter U-
box that can easily accommodate a full-face helmet.
A bigger 5.6 liter fuel tank is also part of the Honda Future make-up. The bigger fuel tank allows
for longer traveling distances (up to 338km, 100km more than Wave 125 X Ultimo) without the
need for constant re-fueling stops.
Other practical highlights include a side battery casing that allows for easy maintenance access, a
push-seat function, and automatic key lock shutters.
Fuel Efficiency and Eco-Friendly
Based on the ECE40 MODE research, the fuel consumption of the Honda Future has been
mapped at 60.3km per liter, a 0.5km per liter improvement as compared to the Wave 125 X
Ultimo. With improved fuel-burning efficiency comes cleaner emissions which compliance to
Euro 2 Standard and ultimately, an eco-friendly motorcycle.
Riding Comfort
The overall design of the Honda Future is tailored to suit riders of various sizes. In line with its
role as a long-distance moped, the Honda Future is built with a wider seat with clear distinction
between the rider and the pillion virtually giving more seat space and allowing for a more
comfortable ride even for long distances. A molded front design that eliminates the use of screws
reduces vibration sounds from the front cover.
Safety First
Safety elements in the Honda Future include a rear LED light that is more visible in any riding
conditions. A blue-lit speedometer and the inclusion of a fog light allows for safer night riding.

HONDA FUTURE MEDIA LAUNCH, 18 July 2012
Speech by Mr. Satoshi Okada, Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer
Good morning and a very warm welcome to the members of the media, ladies and gentlemen.
It has been almost nine months since we met on a new model introduction stage. In that time, my
colleagues in Honda have been anything but idle. The Spirit of Challenge continues and today, we are
proud to introduce the Honda Future – a motorcycle that is both powerful and safe, practical but still
sporty, comfortable yet attractive. It will be the first moped in Malaysia to be able to travel from Kuala
Lumpur to Kuantan on a single tank of fuel. This was calculated by following the ECE40 Mode test
method
I will not go into long details about the product features. , Mr. Tatsuya Minagawa, (Large Project Leader
of Honda Future) will give you a more in-depth explanation later on in today’s programme.
However, I would like to say that constant innovation and evolution is embodied within the Spirit of
Challenge that Honda adheres to. This is how we have maintained our position as the market leader in
Malaysia for so many years. The chase for product excellence is always a moving target. Despite growing
trends in automatic transmissions, the trusty moped is still the mainstay of the motorcycle business in
Malaysia. Consumer demands may have shifted, with more focus on the aesthetics, but the underlying pre-
requisite of a safe and comfortable ride has remained unchanged for decades. By combining features that
will appeal to a broad spectrum of the market, we believe that the Honda Future will straddle the
generation gap between the older market demographics and the new generation of consumers.
Just like all the other models in the All Mode Mighty Series, the Honda Future is a finely tuned balance
between performance, sporty styling, optimum fuel efficiency and Honda’s renowned reliability and
durability. In other words, who says a workhorse cannot look good?
Depending on their requirements, consumers will be able to choose from three distinct variants of the
same model. Variant 1 features an electric starter, spoke, and front disc brakes and will cost RM5,578
recommended-on-the-road; Variant 2 which carries a price tag of RM5,728 boasts sporty wheels, electric
starter and front disc brakes; whilst Variant 3 which combines the electric starter, sporty wheels and front
and rear disc brakes can be purchased for only RM5,998. All three variants come in choices of three
colours – Coral Orange Metallic, Pearl Magellanic Black and Euphoria Red Metallic.
You will see this new model in just a few minutes. But before that, I take this opportunity to express my
sincere appreciation. Thank you, everyone, for your full support to Honda and the “Semangat. Impian.
