When we buy a soap we are not sure about its purity. We decided to make

our own pure olive-oil soap, absolutely friendly for our skin and environment.

Greece has a tradition in making olive oil soap because there is

enough production of olive oil, which is the main ingredient.

From ancient years people made their own olive oil soap.

Greeks feel that the saponification was discovered in Lesvos . There, in antiquity made sacrifices to the goddess Artemis . Animal fats , ashes of wood and rainwater formed a yellow creek that led to the river. When the women washed their clothes there , observed that they were cleaned much better. The poetess Sappho who lived in Lesvos wrote about this fact so the soap took its name from hers.

RECIPE FOR OLIVE OIL SOAP • Materials

• 1200g olive oil

• 200g coconut oil

• 100g sunflower

• 400g distilled water

• 210gr caustic soda

• 100 drops of essential oil

• Performance

• Heat the oil, mix it with water and carefully pour the baking soda and mix with stainless spoon to dissolve. CAUTION! Water vapor will be released and you must be at a distance, wear an apron, gloves and a mask. Beat the mixture with a stick blender until thick. Charge essential oils, mix and fill the molds with the mixture. Cover the molds with plastic wrap and then with a towel.Do not move them for 24 hours and put them out of the molds after 3-4 days. You must reserve them covered with absorbent paper for 4-6 weeks until they become mature and ready for use. They cannot be used sooner because they will be corrosive. Do not attempt to make soap if you do not have an experienced man, who will show you the process with safety.

A Sunday morning we went to school to make olive oil soap…

Pupils are watching the expert, who heats the oils…

They are listening to her instructions….

Filling the molds with the pulp of soap…

Removing the molds two or three days later…

Pupils are satisfied with the results

The soaps smell wonderful..

They look beautiful…

Our soaps need 4-6 weeks to be mature…

We compared it with the commerce soap

We prefer the handmade soap which is better for us and the environment.
