Recently I went to San Antonio to get advice from my primary care doctor of 25 years, Dr. Sco Horn. My husband, Charlie sll makes the trip to Dr. Horn, but since I am so healthy I decided to get a relaonship with a female primary care doctor in Kerrville. I sll go in with Charlie just to make sure he doesnt lie to the doctor. Aſter two strokes my husband tried to get a Handicap tag and Dr. Horn said No, you need to walk.I used to be terrified of doctors and put them on a pedestal almost believing they were not real people. Now I have more confidence and I know what a Godly man Dr. Clarence Donald is through my Bible Study and Dr. Theron Hawkins, who is the friendliest member at Trinity, and Dr. Keith Winslow, a newly rered denst who is one of our deacons. I know there are more professionals in our church that I have not met, but I regularly ask for references from Pilgrims of Faith and other members. I want my doctor, denst, financial planner, plumber and anyone else I come in contact with to be in heaven with me. In fact, it says in Mahew 28:19 Go therefore and make disciples of all naons, bapzing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit . I knew the first me I came into Dr. Horns office that he was different. He had a get acquainted first meeng to see if we were compable. I picked up a FREE devoonal book from the stack on his counter. Later, he assisted in my surgery, but before I went into the operang room, he came in and asked us if we had any quesons. We said no and he said well, lets have a word of prayer. He prayed the most beauful prayer for me, my family, the doctors and my healing. That prayer was totally unexpected, but meant so much to me that now I wonder how many mes we miss opportunies to share our faith. How many people read his devoonal books and received his prayer? Romans10:8 But what does it say? the word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart(that is, the word of faith that we proclaim); I believe that we need to get beer at looking for opportunies to witness even if it is only to invite people to come to our acvies. That Free devoonal book could be leſt at the beauty shop or a doctors office. Instead of telling people that she will pray for them, my sister, Ann says, let me pray for you right now! We pray for each other on the phone regularly and when we have business decisions to make, we pray out loud on that phone to each other. I usually go to doctors appointments with a list of quesons and write down their answers. At the end of my appointments I ask something personal, though I am very careful not to take too much me. That day I asked Dr Horn if he sll had his property in Seguin. He told me that he goes there oſten with his old Lab, Chloe. I remember that dogs name because I have a beloved Granddaughter named Chloe and a Grand dog that is a Lab mix. Here is what that precious doctor told me: Quote: Chloe is geng old, but she meets me at the car when I come in from work , she follows me into the house, comes in the closet while I change clothes and into the kitchen to get a drink and in fact she follows me everywhere. Dont you wish we would all follow Jesus like Chloe follows me? Personally, I would just be happy to follow Jesus like Dr Horn does! A special THANK YOU! to some special Prime Timers who stand by my side each month at Alpine Assisted Living & Skilled Care Nursing Home. Recently I went to San Antonio to get advice from my primary care doctor of 25 years, Dr. Scott Horn. My husband, Charlie still makes the trip to Dr. Horn, but since I am so healthy I decided to get a relationship with a female primary care doctor in Kerrville. I still go in with Charlie just to make sure he doesn’t lie to the doctor. After two strokes my husband tried to get a Handicap tag and Dr. Horn said “No, you need to walk.” I used to be terrified of doctors and put them on a pedestal almost believing they were not real people. Now I have more confidence and I know what a Godly man Dr. Clarence Donald is through my Bible Study and Dr. Theron Hawkins, who is the friendliest member at Trinity, and Dr. Keith Winslow, a newly retired dentist who is one of our deacons. I know there are more professionals in our church that I have not met, but I regularly ask for references from Pilgrims of Faith and other members. I want my doctor, dentist, financial planner, plumber and anyone else I come in contact with to be in heaven with me. In fact, it says in Matthew 28:19 Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit . I knew the first time I came into Dr. Horn’s office that he was different. He had a get acquainted first meeting to see if we were compatible. I picked up a FREE devotional book from the stack on his counter. Later, he assisted in my surgery, but before I went into the operating room, he came in and asked us if we had any questions. We said no and he said “well, let’s have a word of prayer.” He prayed the most beautiful prayer for me, my family, the doctors and my healing. That prayer was totally unexpected, but meant so much to me that now I wonder how many times we miss opportunities to share our faith. How many people read his devotional books and received his prayer? Romans10:8 But what does it say? “the word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart” (that is, the word of faith that we proclaim); I believe that we need to get better at looking for opportunities to witness even if it is only to invite people to come to our activities. That Free devotional book could be left at the beauty shop or a doctor’s office. Instead of telling people that she will pray for them, my sister, Ann says, let me pray for you right now! We pray for each other on the

phone regularly and when we have business decisions to make, we pray out loud on that phone to each other. I usually go to doctors appointments with a list of questions and write down their answers. In the early to mid-fifties I met John at Memorial Baptist Church, Beaumont, TX. On January 3, 1957, we had our first date. In May of that year he joined the Air Force so that he could get the military behind him and move on with his life. Those were the days of drafting. May 6, 1961 John and I were married at that same church and were members there for many years. In 1965 John’s employment took us to Dallas, then to Abilene, and on to El Paso where his company closed their doors. This gave us the opportunity to live our dream – to move to the hill country. When our realtor in El Paso found out that we were moving to Kerrville she told us that her brother, Bill Blackburn, was pastor at Trinity Baptist Church. After a couple of visits, we moved our membership to Trinity. November 9, 2016 my John went home to be with the Lord. In the later years of John's life he didn't get out much, but faithfully watched a church service on television. I miss him terribly, but find peace in knowing that he no longer suffers. I feel blessed to have my WOW friends who are so caring and supportive.

Women of the Word—Room 208 Jean Allgood The leaves are turning yellow and red and some are already falling to the ground. Autumn is here! But unfortunately with it came the devastating hurricane Harvey that pounded Houston and other nearby coastal towns. As we watched the throngs of people evacuating their homes due to the fast rising waters, our hearts were touched and our prayers flowed upward. The rescue teams and “helping hands” that raced to the area were awesome. Included in that group were many from our church! Also Sharron Hawk provided medical assistance at one of the hurricane shelters in San Antonio. Most of us did get good news from our friends and family that they were safe though soaked. I was reminded of a song that seemed to give hope to all those in dire straits:

The God on the Mountain Is still God in the Valley When things go wrong He’ll make them right

And the God of the good times Is still God of the bad times

And the God of the Day Is still God in the Night.

May God bless all the flood victims and responders. Other good news of answered prayer came from Cleo Meadow that her friend Mary Hunt’s cancer is gone. Mary stayed with Cleo for two weeks of sweet fellowship and rest. Gay Hibdon reports that she and Larry Danks will be singing a duet on October 22. We want to offer a belated congratulations to Mary and Bill Kalbfleisch on their 60th wedding anniversary (June 9th). Jean Allgood spent a long weekend with her daughters and their husbands in Santa Fe, NM. A tour of Glorieta brought back fond memories of attending Baptist conferences there in the past. A special moment was taking a picture of daughter Sundee at the same spot at the prayer garden when she was age 4. Getting to know you ---- Jackie Clark I was born outside the very small town of Zavalla, TX. With the only doctor out of town, I was delivered by my Dad. Two things were especially significant about my birth, first was that my dad delivered me and second, I was born in the same house where my dad was born.

On Sept 7 the sewing ladies met at our regular monthly meeting (first Thursday) and among other things, voted on a new name for this ministry. We are now known as "STITCHERS FOR JESUS" which sounds more like what we actually want to do. We want to be the hands-on mission for Jesus. While on "summer leave", these ladies didn't cease to sew. On Thursday they brought in so many items, we ended with 85 dresses w/shorts, 19 of which we already had leftover after distributing to our summer missionaries going to Romania, Dominican Republic, Haiti and Texas/Mexico. We also gave our local children's homes 67 dresses plus boy's items. A portion of these items will be available to Carol and Larry Westbrook when they leave for the Dominican in January. They helped furnish most of the fabric we used. Four long tables in room 121 were FULL of fabrics to be taken by our Stitchers. They were open tables after we were finished. But more to come. We also had refreshments to celebrate our entering into the third year of our mission. Great job, girls!!! I'm wondering how many of our dresses were being worn when the storms and hurricanes took lives away. We continue to pray for those families who have lost lives, homes and everything they own. We are truly blessed in Kerrville. Thank you Lord!

Flower

Ministry

The altar flowers are always so beautiful every Sunday . Thank you to the donors for these contributions. After three sermons in one day, these flowers are taken from the large altar bouquet and arranged into smaller vases. Usually there are 6 - 7 vases delivered to hospitals and care facilities in our area each Monday. In August, there were 26 vases delivered. NOTE: Please return the vases for recycling to Trinity. You may give the empty vase to the person who delivers your flowers next time or send it back with a friend or family member. We certainly appreciate that.

Agape Class - Room 223 Sheila Reed As I start this report the Agape class would like to send out prayers for all involved with hurricanes Harvey and Irma. The class has several members of their family involved in Houston and the surrounding area. We welcome a new class mate, Eva Drost, to our class. She fits right in and we are so glad to have her! Several members of our class have experienced health issues. Sammy Reed had knee replacement. Scott and Libby, health issues. Rosemary Oswalt is back in class and still recovers from Shingles. Ken and Susan Brown lost their great grandson and unborn twins. Special prayers for the Hagers, Jewell Thompson, and Klaus from Germany. Birthdays for the month of September are; Rosemary Oswalt and Roy Hickman. Ken and Susan Brown celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary in August. Karen Maddox has been traveling lately and one place she went was Hawaii! Beautiful pictures. Her daughter Shondra Kellar joined her on the trip. Sam and Sheila Reed sold their house and will be moving to Lousiania to spoil their grandchild soon. I would like to say I have enjoyed the time with my class as the reporter and look forward to reading about the church after we move. It has been a pleasure! May God be with you and your family until we meet again. HEALTHFUL HINTS Ann Peay Uses for Rubbing Alcohol 1. This is genius! To make an ice pack using rubbing alcohol mix together 3 parts water and 1 part rubbing alcohol in a large Ziploc bag and freeze. The best part is they are reusable! 2. To clean your eyeglasses simply use rubbing alcohol. They will “sparkle!” 3. To soothe achy muscles massage rubbing alcohol onto the affected area. It acts as a liniment to increase blood flow to the area.

Prime Time Singers Ann Peay Everyone seemed glad to be back for a busy season and we welcomed a few new members who seemed eager to sing. We all had new folders to pick up that are sturdier with straps to make it easier to hold them. Since they are also heavier, it will be an incentive to learn the music as quickly as possible! These new folders were purchased with money given as a gift from the family of Wanda-Lee Stephenson in her memory. Larry said, “This will be a great way for us to remember her each time we pick up our Prime Time Singers music.” We have new music to work on, in addition to the music from last season so...we have our work cut out for us! Practice, Practice, Practice!!! Our first singing engagement will be October 27th at Hilltop. Practice will start at 9 AM for the 10:30 AM performance. We are to wear our blue/black tops and black pants and black shoes. In case you did not know...or need a reminder...each section has section leaders as follows: Sopranos Linda Cullison & Annette Walter Altos Susan Lesser & Tawana Rehfield Tenors Bob Walker Bass Bill Parr There will be a “Mystery Trip” on November 17th. Larry was very closed-mouthed about any details. He did not even drop any hints so be sure to mark your calendars for something fun and exciting! This is one of the special things about this group. It is not only about working hard to give good performances but there are always opportunities to socialize and get to know each other better. Another thing to be aware of is our Spring Tour scheduled from April 26th – May 1st. WELCOME BACK EVERYONE! SO GLAD YOU ARE HERE!

Labor Day was an opportunity for enjoying some end-of-summer activities with family and friends, as evidenced by the picture below of Sandy West trying out her newly acquired kayaking skills. She was willing (coerced?) to try something new when challenged by the younger folks in her family. Could that be one of the secrets to staying young...along with the usual need to exercise, eat healthy meals, etc. in order to "wear out instead of rust out"?? Many in our POF class are taking Pastor John's admonition seriously about not being retired but being reassigned. Many are being "salt and light" and Christian influences through volunteering their time, expertise and energy to many worthwhile causes in our community. Can you match the people listed below with the service or group they are involved in? {HINT: Some are involved in more than one area of service or some areas of service have more than one volunteer.} Harold Palmer Starkey Elementary Mentor Dale Carmichael Kerrville Citizen Police Acad. ***ANSWERS IN NEXT MONTH'S COLUMN*** September was a time of concern for many in Texas due to the destruction caused by Hurricane Harvey. It seems everyone had friends or relatives impacted, so we welcomed the opportunity to help by providing toiletries for evacuees along the coast. Trinity is a very caring and giving congregation, being led to donate all the undesignated offerings on September 24 to First Baptist Church of Rockport after much of their church building was destroyed or damaged. Our classmates, Dan and Gayle Petty and Don Maltman, along with other folks at Trinity, have participated in various ways and places in the relief effort. POF were happy to welcome Linda Johnson, an evacuee from Rockport and member of First Baptist there. She and her cat are living in their RV until she can return. Blessings to her as she trusts God for her future.

School is starting, which means Christmas is just around the corner. Oh my! One item that is always great for yourself or the kids (or grands or greatgrands), is a Daily Devotional book. Rather than dashing in and choosing one without spending some time reading it, why not check one out at your church library for a preview? In the rack on the wall near the door (the new Resource Center), we have several devotionals for your review. Books are due back in 3 weeks. We have a very nice selection of DVDs available (due back in one week). From light-hearted entertainment (Finding Normal, Welcome to Inspiration), to thought-provoking (God’s Compass, Down River, Is Genesis History?), you’re sure to find something appealing. We’re remodeled – so your favorite author may not be in the same place. Come see the changes! Also, the Resource Center is up but not fully stocked. We will have information for parents of youngsters to teens, as well as some featured selection for the Library. See you soon!

Jubilee - Chapel

Rae Logan

Here it is September and all of a sudden my calendar is getting full. If you are involved with choir this time of year it doesn't take too many other activities and it will soon be overflowing. (Out here in Ingram we start mentoring this week). Prime Time Choir is learning new music that will form the basis of our concerts for the coming year. It is always fun to learn new music, but stressful too. Then if you add the Christmas Concert to that mix, I think you can see what I mean. Larry and I believe four or five others from Trinity are singing with the Singing Men of South Texas. By the time you read this article, their concert will have come and gone. I sincerely hope you all got to hear them. Our Sanctuary Choir and a group from Kerrville Bible Church will join our Guest Choir for one number. What a great number that will be. Larry asked our Trinity Prime Time Choir to wear our concert attire and act as hosts for the visitors. I hope we can do him proud. Class members have been busy checking on friends and relatives, who have been affected by the storm. Jo Ann Silberisen (and John) both had a long history with Rockport, John grew up there. JoAnn taught school there and also taught a SS class for many years at First Baptist, prior to moving to Kerrville. She has been concerned about friends in the area. Claude (and Betty) Brown as well as my husband Jack and myself spent many winters R.V.ing down there and had local friends from our SS class. (The same class formerly taught by Jo Ann before she and John moved to Kerrville). JoAnn gave me the telephone number for the Sheriff's Office. I called them to see if they could tell me about the different parts of town that might have been heavily affected. They told me to call the Fire Department and they would send someone out to the house to check on my friends. I did and they did. My friends called me early the next morning. They were fine except for losing limbs and leaves from many of their trees. I plan to write a letter to the newspaper in Rockport thanking the Fire Department for the great service they provided. I am sure I wasn't the only one who called on them. Where else but in Texas could you find service like that? Our class was touched in a very real way, Stan and Linda Cullison have a daughter and family that live in the Houston area. They are among those who suffered water damage inside their home and lost two vehicles to the flood. They have friends in the area, where they are staying, while repairing their home. What would we all do without our friends. There are many news items to report on this month. I doubt that I will have room for a classmate story. Ruth Stewart had surgery on her upper lip. She has already had the outer stitches removed and tells us that

those on the inside will dissolve. Rose Cook's son Dwight had surgery and is also back at home and doing well. Frank Kubica is home after a long stay in hospital and recovery. Eva Euler reported that her husband Gerald, is now home and making slow improvement. Sam Ligon our church organist had a surgery and is now back at church and is playing the organ. JoAnn Silberisen had surgery on a vein in her hand this past week. Class Announcements that you might want to write on your calendar: Ladies you are all invited to Billie Cavitt's for a tea party on September 28th at ll:30 A.M. If you want to attend and did not sign up on the Sign Up sheet that she sent around you should call her at 895-5236 and have her add your name to the list and ask her what you might furnish in the way of refreshments. Everyone brings something so it doesn't require anyone to bring a very large amount. The Class Christmas Party is scheduled at Billy Gene's on November 28th. Peggy will send around the sign up sheet at a later date, so that we can give them a count. We have class members that are taking time out for trips. J.B. and Shirley Pugh are taking a cruise to Alaska. Then there is our Director, Peggy Morrow, who drove to Fayetteville, Arkansas to meet up with one of our former members, Glenda Molter and then they headed to Branson, where they had tickets to see the production of" Moses". What else did you take in ladies? Harvest Fest is on October 28th. Jubilee Class is signed up to operate the "Cookie Cafe". This will entail helping children decorate cookies.
