India's First Coastal Economic Zone (CEZ) in Andhra Pradesh

• CEZs are expected to cover large areas of land in close proximity to the sea,

having the desired eco system for developing large manufacturing base.

• Big manufacturing and export-oriented units to be encouraged with emphasis on

labor-intensive industries to tap overseas markets.

The first Coastal Economic Zone (CEZ) in India is announced by the NITI Aayog to be set up

in Andhra Pradesh. The locations for the proposed CEZ in Andhra Pradesh are being

identified. Several fiscal and other benefits will be made available to eligible units in the

CEZ.

“AP itself can have two CEZs (Gangavaram-Visakhapatnam node and

Krishnapatnam node). We are looking at both. The CEZs will come up in a

large extent, say 400-500 sq km area, and within that there will be clusters.

Idea is to create an ecosystem to bring large scale manufacturers

that provide jobs to semi or low-skilled workers.” Chief Minister Mr. N.

Chandrababu Naidu
