MAINTENANCE SCHEDULE OF SIGNALLING GEARS

Introduction Signalling plays a vital role to run the train safe and punctual. To achieve this, the working of signalling gears should be efficient and reliable. It is the duty of every signalling staff to carry out the effective maintenance and testing for smooth working of signalling gears. Mainly signalling gears may be classified mainly as

11. Check the effectiveness of snubbing: On closing the

machine circuit the motor operates smoothly, the hold off device is effective and the arm is taken OFF correctly.

On opening the machine circuit the signal arm returns to ON position smoothly without jerks and snubbing is effective and there is no tendency to stick and jamming in OFF position.

Normal and reverse stop provided outside the machine are kept properly adjusted so that the machine stops without any jerk in both ON and OFF positions.

REVERSERS 1. Check oiling of all

moving parts. Ensure oil holes are not clogged by dirt or excessive oil. Lubricate with axle oil medium to IS:1628-ball bearing must be greased with graphited grease(grease A no. 0 to IS:408

2. Remove the dash pot assembly from reverser and check if the oil level is lower than 35mm above of the sliding cylinder. Insulation oil for transformer to IS: 335 shall be used for topping up. As the gap between sliding cylinder and plunger is very little, any sludge in the oil will block the passage and may affect the functioning of dash pot. If the oil is found to be sludgy, it shall be removed. Check the dash pot spring is not broken or cracked.
