PRESIDENT’S CORNER George Filiau, President, Unit 2 Homeowners Association

(On behalf of your Homeowners Board)

I am often asked, “What do my maintenance fees cover?” It basically covers the exterior of your home minus any additions you have added such as gutters, covered patios and screened in rooms. Painting is done every 7 years and roofs are repaired or replaced on an as needed basis. Lawn mowing, insect control and fertilization are provided. Expanded cable with internet, potable water, and recycled water for irrigation, sewage and garbage pickup are included. We are a “Private” community and are therefore required to pay for items the city does not provide to communities like us. All underground piping such as sewer, water and storm drains are our responsibility. Sidewalks, curbs and street paving are done at our expense. We even pay for our nighttime street lighting. You are responsible for any shrubs and trees on your lot. Since the early 90’s when we started replacing roofs, the cost has tripled. Water bills have more than doubled since 2014. Our homes are approaching their 50-year anniversary. Do they require more care? Of course, they do, and your board will continue to seek the best contractors and prices to keep us looking good and in proper repair. HELP YOUR DOG - PICK IT UP.

SOCIAL CLUB NEWS CHARLIE HEMEON, PRESIDENT

The Volunteer Appreciation Dinner was held on January 26th with nearly 80 people in attendance. There was a wonderful catered dinner and entertainment was provided by Singer Al Ruggiero. I wish to thank all those who worked to make this a successful event and especially Liz Schimpf who did a great job decorating the club house and arranged for a large number of door prizes, The Social Club also held a Spaghetti Dinner on February 22nd and it was a very successful event. Gerrie Curry was the chairperson and as always, she provided us with a wonderful meal. Again, thank you to all those who volunteered to make this a successful event. Your 2019 Social Club Board held its first full meeting on February 6th and all Board Members were in attendance. Your Board discussed a large number of items and these were presented at the Membership Meeting on February 13th. Remember if you want to get a firsthand update on upcoming events and other important items, you should attend the Membership Meetings which are always held immediately after Kaffee Klatch on the second Wednesday of the month.

The following are some of the major items that the Board discussed: Seating members for Social Club Events: A committee has been formed to see if we can find a better

way for our members to reserve seating at events. Condition of Clubhouse Chairs: During the month of February a group will look at all the chairs in

the clubhouse to determine if they can be cleaned or if they need to be replaced. Upcoming Events:

Super Bingo – March 23rd at 11:00 a.m. Tickets are $20.00 and may be purchased from Jerry Smith (727) 263-6217.

Ice Cream Social – March 10th at 2:00 p.m. Tickets are $5.00 and may be purchased from Barbara Walsh (727) 251-9076

Spring Fling Dance – April 13th – Entertainer Al Ruggiero will provide the music for an evening of fun and dancing. More information will be available shortly. KAFFEE KLATCH We need volunteers for serving behind the counter and cleaning up after. Please sign-up on the bulletin board. This is an important part of Kaffee Klatch and I hope that we will see more names on the signup sheet for the coming months. If you plan to sponsor a Kaffee Klatch for a special event, please notify Millie Cole at (727) 577-6040 at least a week in advance so that she can be prepared.

Superbowl 53 was a SUCCESS!! Thanks to all who attended our Second Annual Super Bowl Party. We saw familiar faces from last year’s game and a few new faces. Welcome to all. Six TV’s gave everyone an opportunity to view the game – cheer for their favorite team and still be comfortable. Many brought their own chairs while others sat at the tables. There was plenty of room for everyone. The food was delicious (can we kiss the cook? – nope only Liz) and we had plenty for everyone. Dessert provided Superbowl rings for those who

were lucky enough to pick one. Not too many diamonds in those rings, but they still were cute. There were five (5) Football pools this year and congrats to those who won them …. we had some multiple winners and a few winners who did not live in Unit 2, but were happy to hear they had won money. Thank all of you who took a chance to be a winner – you are in our books!! There were door prizes this year and wait until 2020 – maybe a surprise in store. We had two Texas Hold’em Tournament games going on this year and Marge Mickelson was our “hostess”. Familiar faces from the Wednesday night games and some new additions. Debbie Smith went home with the Trophy – Congrats Debbie. Some of the ladies decided to play the “7” or “Nickel” game and kept entertained while the game was being played. I think they may have been the big winners!! Of course, an event doesn’t happen without volunteers. Thank you for stepping up and helping with this event: Charlie Hemeon, Pete Whyte, Bernie Aber, Jerry Smith, George & Rachel Filiau, Marianne Mileno, Don & Barb Lavey, Denis Chenel, Bob & Gail Arsenault, Steve & Marlys Bradford, Bob Gambaro and Margie Malone for printing the flyers/tickets. A special thank you to the Men’s Club. *******************************************************************************************

Our Social Club is happy to announce our annual Ice cream Social has been planned for: Sunday March 10th from 2:00-4:00 p.m.

The ladies are very excited to make this year extra special. Once again, we will be whipping up delicious homemade whipped cream and slicing fresh strawberries from plant city to treat your taste buds to old fashioned goodness. This year we are adding sliced bananas and Hot Fudge to tantalize our taste buds even more. Tickets are $5.00 each. Contact: Barbara Walsh (727) 251-9076 or Sharon Coffey (812) 584-7146. We are very excited to announce that our new neighbor,

wants you to stop by anytime and introduce yourselves as a Mainlands resident to receive 10% off. They would love to meet you.

Steve and Marlys met in 1977 in St. Petersburg, but then Steve moved back to Massachusetts and they were apart for a year. Marlys moved to Massachusetts in 1979 where they were married. Marlys worked as an administrative assistant until they had their two children and then was a stay at home mom for 8 years. In 1995 she started her second career as a paraprofessional in the Rockland, Massachusetts school system and retired after 20 years. Steve has been an auto technician for General Motors for over 40 years and is due to retire any time.

They purchased their home in Mainlands Unit 2 while on vacation in August of 2015. They love travelling back and forth between Florida and Massachusetts. They have met so many special people in Mainlands and really enjoy participating in functions and volunteering their time. When in Massachusetts they spend time with their two daughters and three grandchildren. They keep busy with their Corvettes and the clubs that they belong to in Massachusetts. They love to travel and do so as frequently as possible. ******************************************************************************************
