From the Principal’s desk
My first week back after three months away was a very busy one indeed! Seeing Layla E.awarded with a Highly Commended medallion at the Early Stage 1 Public Speaking Final for Woronora River Network was the highlight of my week! I was a very proud principal.
Our Film by the Sea entry from 5/6 Atlanta, The Crossfit Hatastrophe, was screened at Sutherland Entertainment Centre on Tuesday 25 October and our budding cinematographers strutted the red carpet in celebratory style. Well done 5/6A. I heard your film was a hit with the audience!
Congratulations to the students who were recently involved in Create South 2016 project:: Hannah L., Ashlee R., Madisson G., Felicity G., Heidi F. and Amelia E. Mrs Symons was very proud of their performance.
Thanks go to Miss Anderson for her BYOD presentation in the Library last week. Next year Stage 2 and Stage 3 will be bringing their own devices to school for technology lessons. At this point in time we have decided that Early Stage 1 and Stage 1 students will be catered for at school.
Seeing that programs were running to plan under the expert eye of Mrs Stolk and her executive team was another high for me. My sincere thanks go to her and all the staff for their fine achievements over the past three months.
The P&C has also been working hard in my absence and I accolades to all those members who have worked tirelessly to raise not only funds for our studentsbut also community spirit.
The process of student leadership elections for 2017 has begun in earnest and I am hoping to have it finalised prior to my imminent departure from HPS. Stay tuned!
Given the rapidly increasing costs of excursions, the staff has been looking at some new arrangements for our end of year Activities Day festivities. There is still more planning to be done yet but I think our families will be happy with the new plans. Once again, stay tuned!
IMPORTANT REMINDER Please do not send peanut butter sandwiches or any nuts in your children’s lunch boxes. We have students at HPS for whom nut allergies can result in extreme illness or worse. Thank you for your care.
Mrs S. Chad Principal

Changes to Kindergarten Dismissal Arrangements In readiness for Year 1, from Monday of Week 5 Kindergarten students will meet their parents/carers at the front of the school. They will still be required to tell their teacher before they are dismissed.
SRC News EB Day and Butterfly Design Competition On Wednesday 9 November the SRC is hosting EB Day to support the DEBRA Association. The DEBRA Association supports individuals and families living with Epidermolysis Bullosa or EB. Just as the wings of a butterfly are delicate, children with EB have delicate skin also. The SRC has chosen to support this association as our dear friend and former student Josh Gibson suffered this terrible disease.
On Wednesday 9 November students are asked to dress in blue and purple and bring a gold coin donation. The canteen will also be holding a special morning tea on this day.
Today your child has received an entry form for a butterfly design competition. Students can design and name their own butterfly. Entries for the butterfly design competition are due to the office no later than Wednesday 9 November. We ask that students please give a gold coin donation when handing in their design.
Miss Bourke and the SRC
OFFICE NEWS
ADMINISTRATION OFFICE HOURS
REMINDER Our school’s office hours are from 8.30am until 4.00pm. It would be very much appreciated if parents do not ring the office outside of these hours.
Changes in Office Procedures With the new LMBR finance system parents are able to pay ‘Fees in Advance’. In consultation with our Finance Committee we have decided that change of up to $10 will be receipted into ‘Fees in Advance’ for families. From now on all students will be issued with a receipt. The issuing of a receipt provides evidence to you that your payment has been promptly and accurately recorded. When money has been receipted into ‘Fees in Advance’ it will be highlighted on your receipt. If for any reason you would like to pay a lump sum or larger amounts than the $10 please advise us on the blue payment envelopes. We now accept EFTPOS payments We now have an EFTPOS machine in the administration office to pay for school funds. If you do not want to have your change of up to $10 receipted into ‘Fees in Advance’ you may like to use EFTPOS or Payment Online. The DoE is encouraging schools to reduce the need to accept cash payments by offering these options, please take advantage of them. Thanking you all for your consideration in helping us have a better flow of office procedures.
Warm regards Amanda Loxton Administration Manager
President’s Report Welcome to Week 4. Another crazy two weeks has flown by. With the announcement of the fete results this week I am really only going to do another huge thank you to Elisha Jeffries and Melinda Jugovic. Ladies, the amount raised well exceeded our expectations. We had budgeted for about $7,000 and had hoped for $10,000 but just over $16,000 is an incredible amount. Your excellent organisation skills are the reason we achieved this amazing amount. I look forward to seeing what you will achieve next time. Thank you as well to all the people who are stepping up to help me with the many things happening at the school. You all know who you are. We have two Kindergarten orientation days in the next two weeks and I always look forward to meeting the new families coming to the school. If you see anyone looking a bit lost please give them a smile and hello and show them just what a lovely little community we are. Tracey Bollard P&C President
Fundraising Report We had a busy end of term both with Grandfriends’ day and Book Fair. Thanks to everyone who stepped up and helped at these events. Our Grandfriends always love their special day and I know they loved
watching the children perform as well as the P&C raffle run by Alison
Therkildsen. There were lots of happy lucky door winners and raffle
winners. Thank you Alison.
The Fete was a wonderful success and we hope you all read the
exciting note that went home letting you know about our profit! A total
of $16, 375 was raised! This was above our expectations as it had
been a few years since our last fete so thank you once again for
rallying together as a community and making it happen. This money
will benefit all of our children.
This term we have the gingerbread house and cookies as a take
home pack ready to order (note went home last week) and we have
the Christmas disco on Wednesday 30 November. A note for disco
ticket orders will go home soon.
Our school is a member of the Rebel Sport ‘Support Your Sport’
program. This means that every time someone from our community
purchases something at Rebel Sport our school can benefit. If you
need to update the Oztag boots or cricket gear please join the free
Rebel Sport program and ask them to make Heathcote Public School
your beneficiary. You would be amazed how it adds up. So far we
have been able to provide a variety of balls for the children to play
with at lunch time, a set of four new soccer balls for the PSSA team
and also four new netballs for the PSSA team to train with. Next on
the list is new Oztag balls. Please help us out.

Last week the Thursday afternoon children were able to participate in a Martial Arts lesson from a local dojang were they learnt how to cat roll and do a variety of kicks. All enrolments for 2017 have been finalised and I would like to thank all families for their assistance in providing their re-enrolments and responses which has made for a very smooth process this year.
