Page 1: Magazine contents page research

Layout- The layout of the contents page is not to crowded and there isn't a lot on the page, this could again show the target market of the magazine, its aimed at high income people so it looks more professional and high end. The title of the contents page is distorted, this adds a unique look to the page making it look more funky. The image takes over the page and there is a great deal of text, this means that the visual is more important than the text.

Image- The image is of a rap artist, therefore showing what genre the music magazine is. The image is in black and white, this could add a unique yet vintage look to the magazine. However, there is a red heart shaped badge on the musician in the image this could be contrast to the whole image or page. The musician also has eye contact with the consumer looking at the page this could make it more personal. Finally, the image is large and placed centre left of the page and dominating the page.

Colour Scheme- The colour scheme on the contents page is very plain and dull, the grey scale/ black and white could be added to give a unique look the image as other magazines of this genre are bright and bold. All the colours on the page are the same except for the red on the image itself. The colour scheme could loose the interest of the reader.

Text- Overall, on the page there is minimal text. I think this is a good aspect of the contents page as it doesn’t give away too much what is inside the magazine. All the font is black making it dull, none of the font stands out apart from the two words ‘Features’ and ‘Fashion’ which isn’t to appealing to the customer. There are at least three different fonts on the page, this is good as the page doesn’t look over crowded or full.

Layout- The layout of the contents page is over crowded and busy, this could show that that the magazine is aimed at younger and lower income group of people. The layout is very organised with tables with certain aspects of the magazine grouped together. There are a number of images on the page in comparison to other magazines. There is also a lot of text on the page but its spread across the page unlike other magazines where they have an assigned position.

Image- There isn’t just one image on the contents cover like other magazines, there is many images on the page but they are linked with different sections or aspects of the magazine. The images are only small and the text is dominating the page. There could be less images or just one dominating image to make the page look professional. The images are also appealing to the target market of the magazine and give away that the magazine is aimed at young girls.

Colour Scheme- The colour scheme on the contents page is very bright and vibrant, this shows that the target market is younger females. The main colours are pink and yellow, this makes the page appealing to the target market. The colours could also portray that the magazine is very upbeat.

Text- When the consumer first glances at the contents page it looks like there is a large amount of text on the page, however the majority of the text is short sentences, this shows that the target market are younger as they wouldn’t ready a big amount of text in a magazine. There also a variety of different fonts on the contents page which adds more interest to the page for the consumer.

Layout- The layout of the contents page is not to crowded and there isn't a lot on the page, this could again show the target market of the magazine, its aimed at high income people so it looks more professional and high end. The logo of the magazine isn’t very clear. The image is dominating the page which could mean that the image is more important that the text.

Image- The image is of a musician therefore showing the genre of the magazine. The image is medium close up, the image takes up a large amount of the contents page showing that the visual is more important than the visual. The image is very dark and there isn't much colour on the image, this could male the text contrast with the image. The image is very sophisticated and mature, therefore giving away the target audience for the magazine.

Colour Scheme- The main colour scheme of the contents page is red, black and grey. These colours contrast with the colours on the image making them better to see and the contents page visually appealing to the customer. The colours are very dull and blend together, if the red wasn’t there the page would look dull.

Text- Overall, on the page there is minimal text. I think this is a good aspect of the contents page as it doesn’t give away too much what is inside the magazine. The colours of the text is varied which makes the page more interesting to look at. However, the font is the same and looks dull and boring.
