Elijah Burnett , artist blacksmith of BurnettForge , began forging under the tutelage of mas-ter blacksmiths in a four year European style ap-prenticeship. He continues to glean from smithsfrom all over the globe, incorporating these glo-bal styles into his work. Elijah works each dayat his anvil using hammers, tongs, and assortedtools that he has made himself. He implementstraditional methods of joinery, including mortiseand tennon, re welding, and riveting in creating pieces for everything from large outdoor sculp-ture to a small hook for the bathroom.

Customizing your home, business, or garden is the luxury of decorating with the work of an artistcraftsman. Elijah Burnett , artist blacksmith of Burnett forge , forges what may be seen as common-place pieces such as a kitchen hood, a railing, a door knocker, wine cellar doors, and coaxes fromthe metal a beautiful ow and design that graces its setting. Elijah’s styles include the clean lines of Contemporary, to the European feel of Chateau, to the warmth of Craftsman, to the rugged sophis-tication of Log and Timber, with artistic license often taken. Choose an item from our catalogue orhave something entirely new created based on your own style. The outcome will be a piece uniquelyyou and unique to your home, business, or garden.

Lynn Di Nino has been working in concrete for about fteen years: cast, hand-applied over shapedexpanded steel lath, and as a veneer using the hybridized cement, Milestone, known for its capabil-ity of lasting intense color.

The atrium pictured above, located at Children’s Hospital in Seattle is inhabited by three-nine foot

long Jackson’s chameleons wearing party hats. Because they’re hollow, using about 2” of con-crete over lath, similar to ferroconcrete used in the making of boat hulls, they weigh as little as100 pounds each with great strength. The kiosk you see pictured below is a Milestone pigmentedveneer brushed over cast concrete and features bird sculptures.

With a background in architecture, the ability to interpret drawings, a long history of engineering sculpture for indoors and out, and expertise in concrete use, she is prepared to create architecturalfeatures that include three-dimensional shapes. Lynn’s specialty is animal forms.

hand-crafted art tileIxia Tile Tacoma

Claudia Riedener’s love for the natural worldstrongly inuences her work. Claudia sees theeeting moment of a leaf or a blade of grassand captures it in clay. Using a variety of me-chanical tools of the trade, she enjoys the proc-ess of abstracting nature into durable tile work.Permanency and functionality are importantcomponents of the work. Once installed, Clau-dia likes to see her work be useful, durable andbeautiful for years to come.

Ixia Tile Tacoma offers a vibrant and exciting range of hand-crafted ceramic tiles. Bas-relief tiles, nature print tiles, moldings, liners andeld tiles provide variety to create installationsfor replaces, bathrooms, kitchens, oors, foy-ers and window and door surrounds as well asoutdoor applications such as garden benches, tables, mirrors and water features. High qualitystoneware blends beauty, function and lasting durability while expressing artistic harmony thatonly comes from tiles made by hand.

CERAMI CTILE

Created in a careful process, each tile is hand-made from beginning to end. For bas-relief tiles, thedesign is hand-drawn and hand-carved, often over a period of a few days. From this original carving a mold is made. Each relief tile is then hand-pressed, dried, and bisque red. Nature print tiles arehand- rolled and imprinted with a variety of leaves and plants from nature. All tiles are hand-glazed,either brushed or dipped. Field tiles, moldings and liners are hand-extruded. These labor intensivemethods have been used for centuries to make art tile. Machine reproductions cannot match theauthenticity and quality of hand-crafted tile.

reFurnitureSteve Lawler

Steve Lawler lives in Tacoma where he spendshis days (and sometimes his nights) making fur-niture and creating art. He began working withwood as a child in his grandfather’s wood shop.As time went on, working with wood would takea back seat to other creative pursuits such asphotography, painting and collage. He has slow-ly found himself drawn back to the art of wood-working and eventually into a shop working fulltime making furniture and other custom pieces.

Steve has spent the last two years developing his own uniquestyle of furniture making what he calls reFurniture . He lovesdesigning and building chairs, and creating anything new andinteresting. Choosing to work almost exclusively with eitherrecycled plywood and hardwood scraps, or reclaimed DouglasFir satises his desire to help the earth while also forcing himto nd a unique expression for these sometimes odd pieces of raw material.

reFurniture represents Steve’s passion for two things: First, reusing what others have found to be useless, and second, creating something in a way that nobody has thought of before.

Diane Roberts has been working in stainedglass since the late 70’s and has lived in PortTownsend since 1985. In 1990, she added theheat of the kiln and started fusing glass.

The play of light is crucial to Diane’s glass piec-es. Her designs include elements of visual sur-prise involving any or all of iridescent, dichroicor fused glass as well as varying light sources. The intent is to give the viewer a piece of artthat cannot be seen in it’s entirety from any onevisual perspective, light level, or type of light.

Jennifer Weddermann is a maker, and thatquality manifests itself in two ways: Jennifer hasbeen a licensed architect since the year 2000,with a strong emphasis in functionality and sus-tainability, and a LEED Accredited Professional. She is a metal artist, and has worked in steelsince 1995, using traditional blacksmithing techniques and modern laser-cutting to makeforms that she fabricates into furnishings, publicand private art, architectural elements, signage, etc. In both of these parts of her career, Jenni-fer creates built forms that are site-specic, ap-propriate for their context and their community.

The forms created are derived from the overall vision for the project, and from the spatial context in which they exist. architectural mosaicsJennevieve Schlemmer

Jennevieve Schlemmer is a Tacoma based art-ist with a focus on mosaics. She sees mosa-ics as a way to create color, texture, scale, andlongevity as well as an opportunity to integratesite-specic art seamlessly into architecturalspaces. Her intention is to create pieces thatare tactile and can be visually enjoyed up closewhile still conveying a message from a distance. Her most recent work has centered on large, public installations balanced with smaller, moreintimate interior pieces and concrete sculp-tures.

Her mosaic work is installed in such varied lo-cations as a school playground, the outside en-trance of a movie theater, a baseball stadium, the oor of a public university building, and adecorative outdoor wall on Lake Washington. She has enjoyed working collaboratively withdesigners, construction teams, and archi-tects. The materials she uses, whether stone, concrete, porcelain, or glass, are used withthoughtful consideration to the visual mes-

sage of the piece as well as the structural.
