In Madison Opera’s 2012/13 season,

From the opening rumblings of Verdi’s
conspirators in A Masked Ball to the
sweet lovers in Acis and Galatea
and the hellish finale of Mozart’s
Don Giovanni, emotions run high,
underscored by a musical intensity
that is unequaled.
Madison Opera brings you
stunning performances, glorious
productions, and a real-time experience you will not find

weden, 1792. Political intrigue is everywhere — be careful whom you trust. A King is conspired against, and is ultimately betrayed by his most trusted friend.
This rich theatrical tapestry is woven of illicit love, a fortune-teller, a masked ball, and as many vows of vengeance as can be packed into three hours. Verdi’s much-loved work is Italian opera at its very best, with thrilling arias, glorious choral music, and the dramatic intensity that only great opera can provide.
Join us to experience exactly what makes opera grand.

harming and deceptively sweet, this two-hour English pastorale tells of a demigod in love with a mortal — and what happens when another demigod gets jealous.
Using a libretto by John Gay, composer of The Beggar’s Opera, Handel wove some of his most beautiful melodies into the story of Galatea, her beloved Acis, and the sinister Polyphemus.
Join Madison Opera for our first Handel opera, in a new production in the intimate Playhouse at Overture Center — the perfect venue for an opera originally performed on the terrace of the Earl of Carnavon’s home.

ccording to his (not-so-little) black book, Don Giovanni has seduced 1,003 women in Spain alone. Over the course of a scandalously sinful day, his misadventures come back to literally haunt him, as Mozart’s brilliant score whirls people in and out of the Don’s midst.
One of the greatest operas ever written, Don Giovanni simply does not age. If you’ve never seen it, come discover the glory of a piece that has been thrilling audiences (and shocking a few of them) for 225 years. If you’ve seen it less than 1,003 times, come see it brought to life afresh, with a young, vibrant cast.
