Since 1971 this event has raised over £6.2 million, of which approximately 90% has gone to Macmillan Cancer Support, to improve the lives of people affected by cancer.

The remaining 10% goes to a number of other charities such as York Against Cancer, St Leonard’s Hospice, Racing Welfare and the Injured Jockeys Fund. The day is a fantastic tribute to the memory of the day’s founder, Reg Griffin. We are very lucky to have the continued support of York Racecourse, Jim McGrath, and the countless racegoers who over the years have been such a wonderful help to Macmillan.

There are now an estimated 2.5 million people living with cancer in the UK, rising to 4 million by 2030. When you have cancer, you don’t just worry about what will happen to your body, you worry about what will happen to your life. From help with money worries and advice about work, to someone who’ll listen if you just want to talk, Macmillan will be there. Macmillan is made up of millions of supporters, professionals, volunteers, campaigners and people affected by cancer. Macmillan makes sure there’s always someone there for you, to give you the support, energy and inspiration you need to help you feel like yourself again. Macmillan wants to ensure no one faces cancer alone.

Thank you to each and every one of you who commit sponsorship, donate and bid on auction prizes and give so generously to Macmillan by supporting this event.

Please remember that every penny raised is helping Macmillan to reach even more people affected by cancer. Let us make 2015 another record breaking year for Raceday.

Thank you for your support, and I hope you all have a marvellous day.

macmillan charity raceday at york racecourse

Enjoy an amazing day of racing hosted by York Racecourse whilst making a difference in raising funds for Macmillan Cancer Support and other charities.

The feature race is one of the most valuable sprint handicaps for three year old horses in Europe, the 888sport Charity Sprint. Charles and Dorothy Stevens, who are fantastic supporters of this day, have won this race for the last two years, with Body And Soul then See The Sun in 2014.

It is complemented by the Listed Ian and Kate Hall Macmillan Ganton Stakes, run over one mile for a prize fund of £40,000.

The day begins with the richest amateur race in Europe, the Queen Mother’s Cup for lady amateur riders. This race has been wonderfully supported over the years by Mrs Coral Samuel. The winning rider will famously win her weight in G H Mumm pink champagne.

Once again we are offering those who ride horses for fun the chance to fulfil a dream by competing in the Macmillan Charity Race on the famous Knavesmire. In 2014, the Macmillan Charity Race raised over £90,000 for Macmillan, and this year’s riders are hoping to exceed that again in 2015.

Every day a staggering 25 people in the area hear the devastating news they have cancer, and 12 people die from the illness. This will see North and East Yorkshire’s population of people living with cancer nearly double between 2010 and 2030.

This huge increase will in turn result in thousands more local people feeling isolated and alone, every day, even after treatment ends. Macmillan and its supporters must take action now to make sure we’re there to solve these issues.

The reach of our servicesIn 2014, we supported an estimated 5.4 million people affected by cancer in the UK through at least one of our services.

Including:

• 1.8 million people with a cancer diagnosis.

• 500,000 carers of people with cancer.

• 3.1 million other people affected by cancer (including family, friends and colleagues).

• These 5.4 million people used our services 9 million times in 2014.

• We secured a total of £251.2 million in benefits and grants for people affected by cancer.

• Our Macmillan health and social care professionals supported more people in 2014 than ever, helping around 703,000 people affected by cancer.

• If we also include our ‘force for change’ help - for example influencing national policies or campaigns such as, free prescriptions and influencing free hospital parking in many hospitals - we can say that we are reaching and improving the lives of everyone living with cancer in some way.

The cost of our services£27 could pay for a Macmillan nurse for a house, helping patients and their families receive essential medical, practical and emotional support that prevents people feeling like they’re facing cancer alone.

£175 could pay for a Macmillan grant that helps a person living with cancer heat their home.

£1,010 could operate our Macmillan Support Line for an hour. In this time, our cancer support specialists could answer 32 calls and emails from people who want questions answered, need practical support or financial support or just want to chat.

£15,073 could pay for 28,985 copies of The cancer guide – one for every person diagnosed with cancer in Greater London each year. This Macmillan booklet can play a vital role in helping people feel more prepared for the future and confident they won’t have to face cancer alone.

£24, 829 could pay for one of our Mobile Macmillan Cancer Information and Support Centres for an active month. On average, 916 people will visit the centre in this time. Every one of them will receive the information and support the need to tackle any problems they or a loved one is facing because of a cancer diagnosis.

Between £200,000 and £600,000 could pay for a new chemotherapy suite in a hospital.

£616,000 could operate the financial element of our phone service for a year. In this time, our cancer support specialists could, on average, deal with 9,899 cases and help secure £20,461,738 in unclaimed benefits.

Terms and conditions for live auction in aid of Macmillan at the York Raceday on 13 June 2015

1. By bidding on a lot, you agree to be bound by these terms and conditions.

2. Your bid shall be non-revocable and any bid indicates that you intend to buy the lot “as is”. Lots may not be transferred by the winning bidder to any other person and there are no cash alternatives.

3. You acknowledge that any bid will constitute a legal offer to purchase the listed lot at the amount indicated which, on acceptance by Macmillan, will form a legal agreement to purchase which will be binding on you as the winning bidder.

4. For a bid to be valid, you must be over 18.

5. Statements and images regarding the condition of the lot are for guidance only and should not be relied on as statements of fact and do not constitute a representation, warranty or assumption of liability by Macmillan.

6. Macmillan may seek to include in the auction written bids which are received prior to the auction. The written bids must be submitted by the bidder in a sealed format and received by Macmillan sufficiently in advance of the auction with a clear, written indication of the auction and the lot to which the bid relates. Macmillan does not accept any liability for failure to include a written bid in the auction. The value of the highest written bid will be announced at the beginning of bidding for a lot. Bids made at the auction must be higher than the written bid.

7. Any illegible, incomplete or fraudulent bids will be rejected. Any bidder who bids in a manner, which in Macmillan’s determination is contrary to these Terms and Conditions or by its nature is unjust to other entrants (including without limitation tampering with the operation of the auction, cheating, hacking, deception or any other unfair playing practices such as intending to annoy, abuse, threaten or harass any other bidders or Macmillan and/or any of its agents or representatives) may be rejected from the auction at Macmillan’s sole discretion.

8. The winning bid for each lot will be the highest bid for that lot which meets any of the applicable conditions. In the event that two or more written bids equal the highest bid, these bids will be put into a separate draw and the winner will be drawn by chance. The decision of Macmillan as to the winning bid is final

9. Macmillan will make reasonable efforts to contact the winning bidders before 17.00 on 15.06.15 to arrange payment and delivery. If Macmillan is not able to contact a winning bidder by close of business on 13.07.15, or the lot is not collected or delivery arranged (where applicable) by 13.07.15 Macmillan will have the right to sell the lots to another party on whatever terms it wishes.

10. Payment for the lots must be received by 5pm on 13.07.15. Unless otherwise agreed, lots will not be delivered and may not be collected (where applicable) until payment has been received.

11. Unless specifically stated otherwise, the winner is responsible for all arrangements and costs required to take up the fulfilment of their lot, including, but not limited to, delivery costs, travel and accommodation costs, travel insurance and any other necessary documentation, including passports, immunisations and visas and bearing the costs of such arrangements. If no delivery arrangements are made by close of business on 13.07.15, Macmillan will have the right to re-sell the lots to another party on whatever terms it wishes.

12. Risk in the lot will pass to the winner at the time of delivery. Ownership of the lot will pass to the winning bidder when Macmillan has received in full all sums due to Macmillan for the lot

13. Notwithstanding anything else in these terms and conditions and to the extent permitted under law, Macmillan will not be directly or indirectly liable to any bidder, whether in contract, tort (including negligence), breach of statutory duty or in any way, for the lots. Macmillan gives no guarantees or warranties and any implied warranties or conditions are excluded in respect of the lots, except for fraud, fraudulent misrepresentation and death or personal injury caused by negligence. Macmillan will not be liable for any circumstances that prevent a lot being taken up by the winning bidder.

14. By providing personal information to Macmillan, bidders agree to it being used for the purpose of administering the auction and being shared with Macmillan’s agents and lot providers, where appropriate.

15. Macmillan reserves the right to modify, cancel, terminate or suspend the auction in whole or in part, at its sole discretion, if it believes the auction is not capable of being conducted as specified within these Terms and Conditions or in the event of a cause that is beyond the reasonable control of Macmillan that could corrupt or affect the administration, security, impartiality or normal course of the auction. Neither Macmillan nor any of its subsidiary or affiliated companies are responsible for any condition, circumstances, losses, failures or delays caused by events beyond its or their control such as (but not limited to) the acts or defaults of the supplier of the prize that may cause the auction to be disrupted or corrupted, or that may lead to loss or damage of prizes in transit to the winner.

16. These terms and conditions shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of England and Wales.

It’s only natural that you will want to use your will to look after your family and friends, to make sure they are provided for in years to come.

Leaving a gift to Macmillan in your will is an extra way of doing that – to make sure we can be there just in case they ever need us.

The great thing is, it’s not just a gift to look after your family and friends, it will go much further. Your gift will help make sure we can be there for all of them if they ever need us. Ten, twenty, thirty years from now.
