ANNOUNCES NO CHARGES IN JANUARY 12th SHOOTING OF 14-
YEAR-OLD BOY.
Father mistakes son for intruder.
Today, Hamilton County Prosecutor Joseph T. Deters announced that no
charges would be filed against the father who shot and killed his 1!year!old
son yesterday at their residence on "lanchard #treet in Price Hill.
The father called $11 yesterday morning at appro%imately &'() a.m. to
report that his 1!year!old son, *eorta +ack, had been shot.
ccording to the father, when *eorta left for school earlier that morning,
dad watched him walk to the bus stop and saw the bus lea-e. Dad then tried
to te%t *eorta to confirm that he was on the bus when *eorta called him to
say that he was on the bus.
short time later, dad said that he heard noises in the home. Concerned that
someone might ha-e broken into their home, dad got a . re-ol-er and
began searching the single family residence.
/hen dad was in the basement, he opened a closet door. *eorta was in the
closet and yelled 0"oo. The father said that he was startled when he fired a
single shot. The shot hit *eorta in the neck. *eorta was transported to
Children2s Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The 34!year!old father has no prior criminal record.

Prosecutor Deters commented, 0There is only one word for this ! ! tragedy.
5t is impossible to imagine how horrible this father must feel for mistaking
his son for an intruder. ll of the forensic e-idence matches what the father
told the police, and, therefore, no charges are appropriate.
