Author of three books: Hunter Seat Equitation, George H. Morris Teaches Beginners to Ride, and Because Every Round Counts, a Medals Final Champion, (one of the youngest on record to win both the AHSA Medal Finals and the ASPCA Maclay Finals in the same year), a 1960 Olympic Silver Medalist, Champion in countless International Grand Prixs, coach of multiple students with National and International Grand Prix Wins, and retired USET Chef d’Equipe (Coach). George H. Morris is the most sought after clinician in the world because of his more than 60 years of experience in the sport of show jumping. Having developed his Horsemaster Clinic training from such legendary horsemen as Gordon Wright, Bertalan DeNemethy, Bill Steinkraus, and Gunner Anderson, George H. Morris is all of these admired horsemen rolled into one.

Since retiring as Chef d'Equipe of the United States Show Jumping Team, Morris has set his sights on developing the future of the sport by conducting clinics around the world. Focusing on helping riders develop correct form and function, Morris has often been referred to as the founding father of Hunt Seat Equitation. Second to none, his teachings, technique and style are revered around the world. Over the course of his career, Morris has been highly successful as a rider, coach, clinician, author, and judge.

Most of the George H Morris Clinics also offer a USHJA approved Trainer Certification Program. If you are looking to strengthen your training regimen and build your business, you might consider riding in or auditing one of GHM Clinics.

George H. Morris Clinic and Trainer Certification Program

Dear Riders, Trainers, Parents and Sponsors,

It is our pleasure to invite you to participate in the 2015 George H. Morris Clinic, presented by the USHJA, the Markel Insurance Company and sponsored in part by Stoney Ridge Farm. This three day clinic will be held September 7-9, 2015, at Hunters Run Farm in Temperance, Michigan. Trainers, riders and their friends and families from throughout the Midwest will be applying for the rare opportunity to ride and audit this special event.

We will be offering three training sessions, divided by skill level. Auditing spaces will be available for all three days. The riding schedule is outlined below. Fence heights listed are subject to change, depending on applications received.

9:00 am – 11:00 am Fences 2’9” – 3’

11:00 am - 1:00 pm Fences 3’ – 3’3”

2:30 pm - 4:30 pm Fences 3’6”& up

CLINIC FEES

Riding Spaces: $1250/rider for three days. Riders must commit to all three days. $1300 for riders wishing to receive credit for USHJA Trainer Certification Program.

Auditor Spaces: $75per day/$200 for three days

RIDERS

Each two-hour training session has a maximum of 8 available spots. Riders must have reached their 12th birthday in order to participate in the clinic. Applicants must submit a completed application form along with a $500 non-refundable deposit made payable to Stoney Ridge Farm. All applications and deposits are due by July 1, 2015. Deposit checks will be held until the riders are selected. Chosen participants will be notified by July 15, 2015. Riders will be screened and placed in the appropriate division for safety reasons. Selected riders must complete and sign all Riding Hold Harmless Agreements associated with this clinic. The balance of the clinic fee is due by August 1, 2015.

STABLING

Stalls will be available at the cost of $25 per night and will be accessible beginning on Sunday evening. Shavings are available for purchase at the cost of $8 per bag. Please contact Hunter’s Run before the clinic if you plan on purchasing shavings. Riders are responsible for daily stall cleaning and must supply their own feed. Stall fees and shaving costs will be made payable to Hunter’s Run Farm at the time of the clinic.

EQUIPMENT

Riders are required to have the following equipment:

Horse Equipment

No earplugs or head bonnets. Head bonnets will only be permitted if the conditions are very buggy.

Mr. Morris has also requested that there is no “bling” on any equipment.

Martingales

If using a martingale, only loose fitting running martingales are allowed. No standing martingales.

Bits

You may use the bit of your choice. Please be advised that Mr. Morris may require changes, so please pack extra bits and extra reins (for use with a curb bit) if you have them. No elevator bits or draw reins permitted.

Rider Equipment

Standard length riding crop (no jumping bats)

Spurs (even if they are just dummy spurs)

Heavy duty, stainless steel (old fashioned) stirrups

ASTM/SEI certified riding helmet (to be worn with a hairnet if necessary)

REFUND POLICY

We understand that last minute emergencies can occur for either horse or rider. To account for this, we have instituted the following cancellation policy: In the event of a cancellation, refunds requested in writing before August 1st will be paid in full except for the $500 non-refundable deposit. This must include written information from your doctor or veterinarian. For any refunds requested after August 1st, we will do our best to find another rider to fill your spot. If we are able to find a replacement, your refund will be paid in full except for the $500 non-refundable deposit. This also must be accompanied by written information from your doctor or veterinarian.

AUDITORS

Auditors are welcome to view all of the training sessions each day of the clinic. Audit fees are $75 per day or $200 for all three days. Pre-registration is available and walk-ins are welcome. There is no limit to the number of auditors each day. Pencils and note pads are recommended for those who attend. Video and pictures without the use of a flash are permitted. Auditors will be asked to check in and receive a wristband for each day of attendance.

TRAINER CERTIFICATION PROGRAM

This clinic has been distinguished as part of the USHJA Trainer Certification Program. In order to receive credit for this clinic, participants must be registered with the USHJA BEFORE attending the clinic. Information is provided at www.ushja.org. You will also be required to sign in and out each day and observe all three sessions on each of the three days. There is a $50 fee in addition to the clinic cost to receive credit for the TCP. The cost to audit for the TCP is $250 for three days. The cost for TCP riders is $1300.
