Sewage water leakage affects Giri Street residents

Following a report publishedin Mambalam Times last weekthat Giri Street residents areaffected by debris dumped onroadside due to ongoing storm

water drain work, ChennaiCorporation workers removedthe debris and cleared the roadfor free flow of traffic.

However, the residents arefacing a new problem due to

Afterthe damage caused to the un-derground sewage pipes duringdigging. It has lead to leakageof sewage water which is get-ting accumulated in the trenchthereby producing a foul smell,

posing a potential health haz-ard and becoming a breedingground for mosquitoes.

The sewage drain pipe laying work inMunisamy Salai near our street was started inDecember last year.

To facilitate the work, the sewage pipesconnected to the main from all the residents/flats in our area was temporarily closed.

Because of this the overflowing sewage wa-ter let out into the stormwater drain from someadjacent flats are contaminating our watersupply owing to seepage into our well as well asthe Metrowater sump.

I read in Mambalam Times (Issue No. 38,dated Feb. 16) that bus shelters have beenerected for the bus stops on both sides of Dr.Nair Road (T. Nagar).

Indian Bank and Postal Colony bus stopslocated close to Public Health Centre do nothave any shelter.

A number of parents visiting Public HealthCenter with their children or newborns usethese bus stops for commuting and are atpresent forced to stand under the blazing sun.
