MAYAN GASOn the morning of December 21, I woke up earlier than

the crow on the tree next to my window and, after sendinga mock ‘craw, craw’ at it, went to the balcony to see if theEiffel Tower in Paris had shifted to 424, Second Avenue,Anna Nagar Western Extension which houses the poten-tial Ruler Of The World, as allegedly predicted by somedrunken Mayan astrologer many thousands of years ago.

All that the Metrowater guys had dug up months ago andleft uglified with some vanishing cream was still there. Theroad was naked of Eiffel or Burg Dubai. Satisfied that theMayan lie was perhaps authored by some of our great globetrotting astrologers, I went in and woke up Lakshmi andtold her that we are still alive and the Mayan bloke was aliar. “Let us celebrate it with two cups of strong coffee, what?”

“Coffee is a better prophylactic against cancer thantea. So let us chuck the Mayan madness with three cupseach”, she agreed.

“The Mayans were probably big boozers and some ofthem practiced futurology, but the poor chaps could notpredict that, in some years, they would themselves bewiped out. No human can play God. Anaamika, theanimalised girl of New Delhi, would not have ventured onher bus trip had she known that six sex-beasts were goingto change her entire life pattern. Astrologers would haveprobably told her parents that she would be as famous as‘Mother India’ soon. Well, that she is, now. But now she, Ihope, will cause an amendment to the Penal Code thatmakes life sentence and chemical castration the justreward to the wayward human beast. A research into theMayan thought on the subject may earn some the Nobelprize for 2013".
