Umm no, I managed. I was so freaked out I didnt even add my usual sarcastic comment at

the end.

Good. Then you two better get going. Advisory is about to start and you probably dont want to

seriously be marked late on your first day, do you? Mr. Bradley suggested.

Of course not, Jace said, but with a hint of mocking in his voice. What was that about? What

was he up to?

Without any hesitation, he gently grabbed my elbow and steered me out the door. My body

pulsed at his touch, aching for more.

Once the office door closed behind us he whispered, What do you say we ditch today? His

warm breath brushed against my neck and made my hairs stand on end. I needed to get some distance

from his body or else I was definitely going to faint or something.

I tried moving my feet so that I could be a comfortable distance from him but apparently my

legs had a mind of their own. Instead of taking a few steps away, I stumbled right into him.

He caught me in his arms. I stood still with my hands on his chest, staring straight at his black

shirt. Slowly, I brought my eyes up and looked into his eyes. I was surprised when they looked

completely black. I could have sworn they were chestnut brown before but rather than scaring me, his

black eyes actually drew me in more. He licked his lips as if waiting to get a taste of me. He leaned down,

slowly getting closer and closer to my face.

I knew what he was doing and I wanted him to. But at the same time I couldnt let myself. When

I didnt stop him he closed that last few inches in between us and pressed his lips against mine.

Something lit up inside me and at first, I kissed him back. I never wanted it to end but the reasonablepart of my brain was shouting at me to stop. This time, I listened to it. I stopped kissing and stepped

away from his arms that seemed to fit perfectly around me. I looked away from his eyes which were full

of longing, trying to ignore the tight feeling in my chest.

Im sorry, he said quietly.

I didnt say anything for a while but the silence was suffocating me so I said, Um, well, I guess

we should get to advisory now...

Yea. Lead the way, he said.

I walked in front of him, not saying anything. I was hoping that he might come walk next to me,

but to my disappointment, he walked a good yard behind me.

I was still thinking about how his eyes had turned black. Was it a trick of the light? I dared a look

behind me and found him staring intently back at me with chestnut brown eyes. A normal person may

have just thought that the black eyes had been a hallucination since no persons eyes could be able to

change color, but to a soul seer who was exposed to stuff like demons and faeries and what not it was

a big deal.

There was something off with Jace and I was going to find out what.

Everything that had just happened- the kiss, me actually wanting the kiss- was forgotten. I

would deal with my weird feelings for him later.

Right now there were bigger things crowding my mind.
