I noticed that leisure hotels in small islands don’t have cups that will give their guests a feel of the local’s way of drinking. they usually just have a generic high end looking cups to their guests. I figured a drinking vessel that looks like a cupped leaf or hand to have that feeling of drinking with your two hands like what the locals usually do. Most of the water will be contained near the rounded part where people will drink out of. It will still have the properties of a cup, but it is extended in some parts to look like a leaf. The vessel will have a branch looking stopper to prevent it from tipping over.
Hotel Conrad Bali is a five star leisure hotel that is famous for their comfy and laidback aura. Their staff wear white shirts and slacks to support the chill environment. People from all over the world comes here to relax and get away from their busy lives at home. Vacationers prefer to drink cold drinks due to the hot weather. They serve a wide array of drinks to the guests from teas to cocktails.

Ideation Sketches
These are the initial ideation that I sketched out. I came up with a few different directions of cups and I didn’t feel like any of these worked, so I made some other sketches.
Prototype Model
Initial model made out of polyurethane foam. I used the bandsaw to cut the shape, and smoothed it a little using the belt sander. I hollowed out the model using a dremmel. After the shape is right, I sanded the model with 80 grit sandpaper.
Prototype Model
The first design for the accessory is a spoon. I made a few models of possible spoons out of Fimo Clay. I shaped them with my hands and then baked it so the shape stays. I had a really hard time to shape it the way I want. The clay would bend out of shape when it is baking in the oven and I couldn’t smooth them. I also had a hard time about the size of the spoon to work with my model. Some of the spoons are too big, and the others just look too flimsy.
Design Process
I decideed to scrape the spoon design and came up with another option for my accessory. I designed a small plate for sugar cubes or lemon slices. The shape of the plate resembles the cup. It is made out of polyurethane foam and I cut it using the bandsaw to get the majority of the shape. I then used the beltsander to smooth and round it off. I used a dremmel to hollow out the inside, and sanded it using the 80 grit up to the 200 grit sandpaper.
Design Process
I used a spray primer to fill out some of the pores of the foam that I couldn’t get off from the sanding. I put on multiple coats of the primer to make sure that there is enough primer on. Then I used a 400 grit wet sandpaper to smooth the primer. After the primer has dried overnight, I started spray painting my cup with a sky blue color. I sprayed several times to make sure to cover the few pores that I couldn’t cover with the primer. Then I left it to dry overnight, and after it is completely dry, I sanded it with a 400 grit wet sandpaper.
