We Welcome You To Join Us!
Loyola Jesuit Center is located on over thirty acres of beautiful lawns, gardens and woodlands in a quiet section of Morristown in northern New Jersey. It is in this peaceful atmosphere that thousands of retreatants have come since 1927 to Encounter God, Illuminate The Heart and Enjoy Peace.
Our ministry is inspired by the Gospel of Jesus Christ and is rooted in the spirituality of St. Ignatius Loyola. A journey in meditation, praying with Scripture and finding God in all things – this is the foundation of our retreats and offerings.
We commit ourselves to meet people of all ages and cultures, wherever they may be in their spiritual life, and offer them the resources and contemplative atmosphere to foster the spiritual fire necessary to be free and fully alive as children of God.
Evenings of Prayer are a wonderful opportunity to get a taste of the Loyola retreat experience.
Spiritual Exercises (8-Week Format)(Wednesdays, 7:00pm - 8:30pm)
Led by Marie Santana
Series #1: September 13, 2017 through November 1, 2017
Series #2: February 21, 2018 through April 11, 2018
The Spiritual Exercises were written by St. Ignatius of Loyola during the 1530’s. He was very clear to state that the Spiritual Exercises could be adapted to whatever situation, allowing “more” people to experience them. In particular, this version has been adapted to offer the Spiritual Exercises to those with full-time jobs, busy families, and/or others who cannot afford the length of time of the 19th Annotation Retreat in Daily Life (30 weeks, meeting once a week with a spiritual director) or the 30 Day Away Retreat.
This 8-Week format contains all the topics that are part of the Original version (all 4 IGNATIAN WEEKS) without compromising its integrity. The consolidation and new structure is achieved by the selection of each topic without the “repetition” that is part of the Original Version. It includes scripture as well as commentary by various Jesuit sources giving it a fresh, updated view and richer in its diversity of thought.
Suggested Offering for 8-week series: $160 per seriesNon-refundable deposit: $20

Dangerous Memories: A Mosaic of Mary in Scripture by Elizabeth A. Johnson
In her book, Elizabeth A. Johnson, CSJ presents Mary of Nazareth as depicted in the 13 Gospels and explores the questions “How can our generation carry forward the rich, living tradition of honoring Mary? How can we, living in a multicultural church in the twenty – first century, appreciate Mary’s significance for our life of faith and its practice?” Dangerous Memories is taken from her acclaimed book Truly Our Sister: A Theology of Mary in the Communion of Saints. Elizabeth A. Johnson, CSJ is a Distinguished Professor of Theology at Fordham University and an award-winning Catholic author and educator. Our evenings include chapter review, faith sharing on reflection questions, as well as time for private prayer. The book can be purchased at Loyola Jesuit Center or purchased on your own.
Series #2: April 9, 2018 through April 30, 2018
Falling Upward: Spirituality for the Two Halves of Life by Richard Rohr
In Falling Upward, Father Richard Rohr--the founder of the Center for Action and Contemplation--offers a new paradigm for understanding one of the most profound of life’s mysteries: how our failings can be the foundation for our ongoing spiritual growth. Drawing on the wisdom from time-honored myths, heroic poems, great thinkers, and religious texts, the author explores the two halves of life to show that those who have fallen, failed, or “gone down” are the only ones who understand “up.” Rohr takes the reader on a journey to understand how the heartbreaks and disappointments of life are stepping stones to the spiritual joys that the second half of life has in store. Our evenings will include chapter review, faith sharing on reflection questions, as well as time for private prayer. The book can be purchased at the Loyola Jesuit Center bookstore or on your own.
Suggested Offering for Spiritual Book Club series (4-Weeks): $80 per seriesNon-refundable deposit: $20
