You know to fill your tank before it runs dry, but how well do you know your gaso-line? While ethanol-blended gasoline is the standard for most automotive uses, it canactually cause serious problems for your Lowe if not treated properly. Luckily, there’sValvTect. The fuel experts at ValvTect have developed two all-inclusive gasoline so-lutions that account for fuel stability and phase separation, while also effectivelypreventing corrosion of internal engine components.

ValvTect Marine Gasoline contains a special corrosion inhibitor to prevent deterio-ration from ethanol and non-ethanol gasoline. Since E10 (10% ethanol and 90%gasoline) can hold up to 25 times more water than pure gasoline, this can cause rust-ing of fuel-system components. When tested in E10, using the petroleum industry’srequired test for corrosion, ValvTect Ethanol Gasoline Treatment received a perfect“A” rating for completely preventing oxidization and corrosion. Protecting yourLowe boat’s engine has never been easier.

Trust. It’s an unspoken principle in the relationship between a boater and his or her vessel. Without it, you never reallyachieve the goals that are so inherent to boating: feeling at ease, connecting with nature, having fun. With trust comes confidence andpeace of mind—the freedom to not only pursue your boating goals, butto accomplish them, each and every time out.

“The Lowe reputation is built on trust. Our customers know they canrely on their Lowe pontoon or fish boat to provide long-lasting quality, durability and reliable performance,” says Lowe President Ben Cast.“At the same time, they know they’re getting the best value for theirhard-earned dollar. We feel strongly that the customer should neverhave to pay extra for quality, and should never accept sacrifices in thename of savings. That’s why we’re so excited to introduce a new seriesof entry-level pontoons—to offer all the strengths of the Lowe brand atan even more accessible price.”

Slated to make their official debut later this year, the new pontoonswill be available in three deck lengths—16, 18 and 20 feet—each with awide 96-inch beam for loads of elbow-room, and each available in two

configurations. The Cruise models are designed for families who loveto get out there and play; they’re the ideal platform to launch a thou-sand swan dives and soak up unlimited hours of sunlight. Naturally, each includes ample storage space for all the gear that such excursionsrequire, from life jackets, tubes and pool noodles to spare bottles ofsoda and SPF.

The Fish & Cruise models, meanwhile, are made for pontoon-goerswho know that no day on the water is complete without wetting a line.Features and options include fishfinders, trolling motors, livewells andpedestal seats, and plenty of rod storage comes standard.

“You won’t find us cutting corners with the entry-level series,” saysDavid Kirkland, Lowe vice president of commercial operations. “It’sabout how much can we deliver, not how much can we take away. Theend result is a lineup of pontoons that focuses on the true heart of pontooning: being out on the water, relaxing and enjoying the companyof family and friends.”

Of course, part of the joy of pontooning is exploring new corners ofthe lake or finding untapped fishing spots. That’s why every Lowe pon-toon comes with a reliable and efficient Mercury® engine, deliveringplenty of horsepower to fuel far-flung adventures. Manufactured in

the state-of-the-art Lowe production facility, these newpontoons benefit from the cutting-edge technologies and decades of experience that go into every Lowe. You’llsee it in details like 23-inch-diameter pontoon logs and 24-inch cross-member centers, ensuring great stability;stainless-steel hardware and heavy-duty rub rails; and tall, sturdy fences, available in an array of colors.

Each new pontoon features comfortable seatingthroughout, including a wide sunpad (on larger models)for catching rays, as well as a 7-foot Bimini top, for passengers seeking a little refuge from those rays. Factor in an easy-to-operate helm station with speed, tach and fuel gauges, and a swim platform and boarding ladder at the rear, and you’ve got everything you need to achieve boating bliss.

“We’re really looking forward to debuting this newline of pontoons,” Cast says. “It’s a chance to make theLowe pontooning lifestyle accessible to more boaters thanever before, and it’s further evidence of our commitmentto providing the best value on the water.”

Some of the best rewards lie in the hard-to-reach places.Like the breathtaking view from atop a steep mountain trail. Or the lastjar of sauce on the highest shelf at the grocery store. Or, perhaps mostaptly, the school of hungry fish or the trophy pintail residing along theskinniest, most remote branch of the river.

And yet with the right tools, those rewards become significantly moreattainable. That’s why Lowe is pleased to add to its formidable lineupthe new Roughneck Shallow Water series, a fleet of boats that deliveryou safely and smoothly to your destination, no matter how murky, muddy or miniscule. Mastery of the shallows is all but guaranteed.

The Shallow Water series answers growing demand from customers for boats better suited to tight spots—the sort of waterwaysthat outdoorsmen frequently find themselves faced with. And the series is born of insights from actual hunters and anglers: that is, the craftsmen who make up the talented Lowe engineering and manufacturing teams.

“Not only do our employees have decades of boatbuilding experience, the vast majority of them are also dedicated outdoorsmen and -womenthemselves,” says Lowe President Ben Cast. “The insights of our ownstaff are as vital to the process as those of our customers. Taken together, we have a rich understanding of how our boats are used andwhere there’s the most appetite for new variations.”

Designed for great versatility and effortless operation, every ShallowWater model features proven Lowe all-aluminum construction, meaningthey are lightweight for maximum efficiency, yet ultra-durable foryears of heavy use. Each Shallow Water hull features a flat bottom and

formed-in keels and extruded ribs, with optional diamond-plate transom corner caps, providing excellent access totricky destinations and fortification against damage fromhazards that might be hiding in the mud.

Debuting this summer, the Shallow Water lineup includes a range of sizes and configurations suited to a variety of activities and species. The models are alsodealer-customizable—boaters can choose from an array ofdealer-installed options, including an integrated side console. Standard Mercury® tiller engines deliver reliableperformance and terrific fuel efficiency, while optionalMercury Tunnel Jet propulsion is available for extra protection against the type of damage that rocks or ledgescould inflict.

market,” says David Kirkland, Lowe vice president ofcommercial operations. “They offer a new level of acces-sibility to areas that other boats couldn’t safely reach. We’re excited to expand the capabilities of our lineupeven further.”With all that capability and dealer customizability, these

boats are as easy on the budget as they are dominant inthe shallows. In other words, it’s time to erase the phrases“out of bounds” and “out of reach” from your vocabulary.“We’re eager to introduce the Shallow Water models

this year,” Cast says. “Lowe is dedicated to meeting ourcustomers’ needs and exceeding their expectations. We’reconfident these boats will find themselves at the center ofmany successful outings.”

FUNFUN

Story by Jennifer ChesakPhotos by Lance Ramsey and Kimberly Simon

Sometimes the name on the map just plain sounds like a goodtime. And sometimes you visit and discover the character of theplace lives up to its label. Indeed, the following six lakes are asmuch fun for pontoon play as they are to say. Some have leg-endary lake monsters, while others have monster fish. All ofthem boast big entertainment. So go on: Tie up your tongue, untie your boat and let the long weekends begin!

LAKE OUACHITA Surrounded by the peaks of the Ouachita Mountains, Lake Ouachita is arguably one of the most beautiful lakes of the south.Named after the Washita Native American tribe, the lake is just ahop west from the natural-spa haven of Hot Springs, Arkansas.Quaint cabin rentals tucked in the Ouachita National Forest givevisitors the feeling of solitude, but this lake also has a friendly faction of diehard boaters. Jeremy and Kimberly Simon (at right)and their three boys, Trevor (7), Trenton (5) and Tyler (2), havemade the lake their summertime destination for cruising on theirLowe SF 214 pontoon. “It’s where I learned to water-ski,” Kimberly says, “so it was only natural for us to take our boysthere.” The Simons live two hours away in Alma, Arkansas, andKimberly adds, “The kids asked me every day this winter if it’stime to go back to Lake Ouachita.” The Simons bought their boatfrom Copher’s Boat Center in Fort Smith, Arkansas and couldn’tbe more pleased with the service they’ve received.

LAKE MINNETONKA A former Minnesota governor gave this lake its name, which means“Big Water” in the Dakota tribe language. Lake Minnetonka, atmore than 14,000 acres, is definitely a behemoth, and its manycoves, islands and peninsulas are a blast to explore. Anglers willbe pleased with the variety of freshwater fish like muskie, north-ern pike, perch and the ever-tasty walleye. And what’s a fun lakewithout a lake monster? Visitors should be on the lookout for“Lou,” the legendary giant sturgeon that is said to lurk in thesewaters. Lake Minnetonka is located west of the Twin Cities ofMinneapolis and Saint Paul. When it’s time to come off the water, a trip to Camp Snoopy, an amusement park inside the Mall of America, should be your next stop. Cabela’s in Rogers, Minnesota, is the place to go if you’re looking to get into a Lowe this summer.

Lake Okoboji

Lake Minnetonka

11)

WEST AND EAST LAKE OKOBOJIBy the names of these two lakes, one might think they’re locatedin a far-off land, but in fact they’re as close as northern Iowa. Westand East Okoboji are part of the Iowa Great Lakes. The name ispossibly derived from the Dakota language word Okoboozhy, which means “place of rest” or “reeds.” The Okoboji region is ahot spot all summer long, but especially during the Fourth of Julyfor the phenomenal fireworks display. The exceptionally clearwaters make the Okoboji lakes great places for swimming and watersports. Anglers like the bountiful yellow perch, bluegill and walleye. Although there have been sightings, so far no one hascaught the aptly named lake monster, “Obojoki,” a creature saidto roam the east lake. Malone Motorsports in Monroe, Iowa, serves the Lowe boater needs of the Iowa Great Lakes.

LAKE OKEECHOBEEOkee dokee, let’s talk Okeechobee. This Central Florida lake isjust begging to have a song written about it. The name comesfrom the Hitchiti tribe language, with oki meaning water andchubi meaning big. Okeechobee holds the glory of being thelargest freshwater lake contained entirely in one state (in the 48 contiguous states). It’s famous for its big bass, but crappie arepopular, too. Okeechobee is a bird watcher’s paradise with herons, cranes, egrets and even bald eagles taking refuge there. TheAmerican alligator is also a resident, but the most talked aboutmonster in the region roams the land: Alleged sightings of the“Okeechobee Ogre” describe a skunk ape similar to Big Foot. M & M Marine Services in Fort Pierce, Florida, is the nearbyLowe dealer, and a certified ogre-free zone.

LAKE CHAUBUNAGUNGAMAUGNo need for a lake monster here; the name is beast enough. If youfind this lake hard to pronounce, simply call it by its other name,Webster Lake. Oddly, the full title is an even bigger mouthful:Lake Chargoggagoggmanchauggagoggchaubunagungamaugg. In the Nipmuc language it means “Fishing Place at the Boundaries—Neutral Meeting Grounds” for its location in Massachusetts nearthe Connecticut border. With the long-form moniker, the lakeearns the distinction of having the longest place name in theUnited States. Regardless of what you call it, the fishing is awesome with bass, trout, catfish and pickerel aplenty. And thisquaint New England retreat is a great place for whirling the kidsaround on a tube or for building sandcastles on one of its manybeaches. Baert Marine in Middleton, Massachusetts, sells Loweboats in the region.

Wherever you end up cruising this summer, you’ll be havinga blast if it’s on a Lowe pontoon. And if you need road-triptravel tunes, there happen to be three songs written about LakeChaubunagungamaug. Then again, for your tongue’s sake, youmight be better off sticking with the radio.

WHEREVER YOU END UPCRUISING THIS SUMMER,YOU’LL BE HAVING A BLASTIF IT’S ON A LOWE PONTOON.

SUNSHINESTATE OF MINDTed Winters is the kind of guy who doesn’t sit still for long. He grew up hunting,

trapping and fishing in upstate New York before serving many years abroad in the

military. And now that he’s retired, he’s out as often as possible stalking Florida bass

with his Lowe Stinger 175. “It’s just relaxing,” Ted says. “I enjoy being out in the air and

in the world whether I catch fish or not.”

He and his friend Bud Harper, a fellow RV road-tripper and angler, like to head out on the lakes that are a short drive fromTed’s home in Lady Lake, Florida. Lake Griffin in Lake GriffinState Park near Leesburg is a favorite for the guys. They oftenthrow a few lines in at the dock before launching the Lowe, justto get warmed up. On this particular day, Bud happens to hook upwith a surprise bonefish. “Hey, sometimes you get something youweren’t even expecting,” Ted says with a laugh.

Ted’s first experience fishing from a Lowe was on a friend’sboat, which quickly cemented his decision to purchase one of his own. “I like the way it handles,” he says of the sleek redStinger 175. “And I can get into shallower places than I could gowith my old boat.”

After finding a spot on the lake, Ted fires up the MotorGuide®trolling motor, and the guys prepare their lines. For catching bass,Ted says he likes to use Motor Oil worms and Rat-L-Traps. “Oncein a while I use a spinner bait or something. And sometimes itseems you could throw bubble gum down there and catch morefish!” He throws his head back in laughter. After rustling aroundin his tackle box, he fishes out two lures. “You see these? Theseare the kind that won’t work down here,” he jokes. Turns out he’s hung onto tackle from when he used to catch salmon up inOntario.

Up north, Ted first got into hunting and fishing after someclassmates introduced him to the sports. “I started out rabbithunting and then went to pheasant and then turkey and then onto big game like deer and bear,” he says. For fishing, he favoredplying for salmon, but he also caught the occasional walleye. “Ilove hunting and fishing. It’s all I do.”

Ted and his wife migrated south after she was offered a job incentral Florida. “It was 16 degrees below zero in upstate NewYork, no joke,” he says of the day they visited the Sunshine State

to check it out. “I didn’t think I would like it down here. But I couldn’t believe how nice and green and warm it was. I don’thave to shovel snow any more. And I can find my car when I go outside!”

The move to Florida proved to have other benefits as well. Tedsays he’s met several veterans who live in the area, and he hasgood access to medical care, which he needs for injuries sustainedwhile in the service. He has served in nearly every branch of theU.S. military except for the Air Force. He was in the Marineswhen he fought in the Vietnam War. “The veterans are takingvery good care of me down here,” he says. “We have a nice senseof camaraderie.”

Ted bought his Lowe earlier this spring from Millers BoatingCenter in Ocala, Florida. “They really take care of you,” Ted saysof the dealership. “They call you once in a while to make sure

you are doing well. And they’re honest. You cantrust them. If they say something, you cancount on it.”

The Lowe Stinger’s comfortable seats and bow and stern livewells were big selling pointsfor Ted, and he loves his 60-hp Mercury®FourStroke. “It’s good on fuel,” he says. “Youcan go miles on it. Plus, it’s really quiet.”

Ted and Bud spend a little more time out onLake Griffin, but it seems the only true bite they’ll have for theday is the bonefish Bud caught and released back at the dock. Theguys don’t mind, though. They sit back, enjoy the cool spring airand look out across at the marshy shoreline at Lake Griffin StatePark while shooting the breeze. After a while, they decide to callit a day and head back to the launch.

“It’s a pretty boat,” Ted says after he and Bud have loaded theStinger 175 back onto its trailer. “Everyone who has seen it hassaid so.”

And with that, the friends climb into their truck and head for home. Yet it’s probably not the last Ted will see of nature for the day; when not fishing or traveling around in an RV, he admits he still can’t get enough of the outdoors. “I like to watch Animal Planet or the Discovery Channel,” Ted says, grinning. “I admit it.”

“It’s a pretty boat,” Ted saysof the Stinger, from which he

typically hooks bass.
