SPPH On-Site Rescue Medical Teams (28 members, 6 ambulances)

On the 1st day, performed 17 major operations, over 200 wound cleaning operations. In total, treated 1,779 patients, performed 386 operation, and transferred over 700 other patients

The first group of patients arrived two hours after the quake

On May 12th alone, SPPH received 679 patients, conducted 79 operations, and performed over 500 X-ray examinations

Standing up to the challenge:

• SPPH created three earthquake patient wards with a total of 210 beds• Temporarily ceased other non-emergency surgeries• In-Patients showed spirit of giving and requested to be discharged• Many volunteers offered to help

The Sichuan earthquake was so powerful that tremors were felt in Hong Kong approximately three minutes after the quake, continuing for about half a minute.

This was the most distant earthquake known to be felt in Hong Kong.

The people of Hong Kong felt the great impact of the earthquake and responded with even greater sympathy, compassion, and generosity.
