    WHAT

Green Building is the use of environmentallyfriendly products and building materials to

    reduce energy waste and

reduce the impact of buildings on the environment

    Environmentally friendly products

    Double pane windows

    Washers that use less water

    Dryers that require less heat

    Fridges that dont use Freon

    WHY NOT

Some people believe that green buildings requiregiving up being comfortable

Cant have a good heating system and air conditioning

    must be limited

    Ride a bike to work

Cost of building green is expensive

    Materials can be highly priced

A heating system for Langdon Woods a college dorm housing

facility for about 380 students costs $1 million to install

    WHY

Green Building is good for the environment

The temperature in a city can be 6-8 degrees higherthan surrounding areas. Green buildings with betterroofing can help reduce this temperature.

    It requires less energy

Indoor Air Quality in green buildings is better

Cost of living is less after building expenses

This Energy Star Savings Calculatorshows how you

can save by buying more energy efficient appliancessuch as washing machines.
