As Albert Einstein intelligently said, The world is a dangerous place to live; not because of the

people who are evil, but because of the people who don't do anything about it. The same statement

holds good to sum up the year 2011. From major scientific achievements to manmade tragedies;

from world economies on a downslide to young billionaires emerging; from the Japanese tsunami

wiping out a whole generation to terror attacks being carried out by sadistic individuals, the world

had seen it all. The world just got a tad stranger in 2011.

India was no stranger to the melodrama played around in the world. The inhabitants of the world

also contributed considerably to make the world a worse place to live. From terror outfits to leaders

with vested interests, they utilized the raw human emotion to manipulate it and use them to their own

advantage. Hopefully, with the birth of 2012, the world will be a better place to live.

Indian Cricket Team Won World Cup, 2 April The 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup was the tenth Cricket WorldCup. It was played in India, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh. The World Cup took place between 19 February and 2 April2011, with the first match played on 19 February 2011. India won the tournament defeating Sri Lanka by 6 wickets inthe final in Mumbai. India became the first nation to win a World Cup final on home soil. Indias Yuvraj Singh wasdeclared the man of the tournament.

Hospital Fire in Kolkata

Fire in Hospital in Kolkata, 9 December- A fire broke out in a Kolkata AMRI hospital on 9 December 2011. The firespread fast from the basement of the hospital, engulfing one ward after the other and trapping hundreds of people.

Around 25 fire engines was rushed to the spot. The fire fighters were seen using hydraulic ladders to rescue thepatients and office staff by cutting open the glasses with gas cutters. 89 patients including three hospital staffers hadlost their life in the incident. Out of the 150 admitted patients in the hospital, 90 were rescued. Emami shares felldown by 1.71% on the day incident took place. Six board members have been arrested for the death incident.

Sikkim earthquake 2011

Earthquake in Sikkim, 18 September The 2011 Sikkim earthquake , also known as the 2011 Himalayanearthquake, was a magnitude 6.9 (Mw) earthquake centered within the Kanchenjunga Conservation Area, near theborder of Nepal and the Indian state of Sikkim, at 18:10 IST (12:40 UTC) on Sunday, 18 September 2011. Theearthquake was felt across northeastern India, Nepal,Bhutan, Bangladesh and southern Tibet. At least 111 peoplewere killed in the earthquake. Most of the deaths occurred in Sikkim, with reports of fatalities in and near Singtam inthe East Sikkim district.

the Central Bureau of Investigation. Computers were reportedly seized as part of the evidence that the CBI plans topresent against him. Raja and two former associates were arrested on February 2, 2011. The 3 have been taken toPatiala House Courts for enquiries by the CBI on 3 February 2011 After the end of his custody with CBI, Raja wassent to Tihar Jail for judicial custody until March 3, 2011. Suresh Kalmadi Arrested CWG Scam, 25 April On April 25, 2011 Kalmadi was arrested by CBI for awardingillegal contracts to a Swiss firm for Timing-Scoring-Result (TSR) system for the 2010 Commonwealth Games causinga loss ofRs 95 crore to the exchequer. Kalmadis membership of the Indian National Congress Party was suspendedafter being arrested and charged with corruption. On April 26, 2011 he was sacked from the post of president of theIndian Olympic Association.

Bomb Blast in Delhi High Court, 7 September The 2011 Delhi bombing took place in the Indian capital Delhi on

Wednesday, 7 September 2011 at 10:14 local time outside Gate No. 5 of the Delhi High Court, where a suspectedbriefcase bomb was planted. The blast killed 12 people and injured 76.

Baba Ramdev on Hunger Strike Baba Ramdev declared to go on an Anshan (indefinite fast) on June 4, 2011 atRamlila Ground Delhi to pressure the Central Government to root out corruption from India and bring back the blackmoney stashed away in various financial institutions abroad. After this declaration the government was said to haveset up a panel to suggest steps to curb black money and its transfer abroad, in an apparent bid to placate Ramdev.Satyagrah was going on even in the night of 4 June 2011. Sources informed Baba Ramdev that a huge police forcecan try to clearRamlila Ground and if it is not done they can also kill him in a fake encounter or set fire in the tents. Atmidnight, a huge team of 10,000 officers of the Delhi Police and RAF raided the ground when most of the Satyagrahiswere sleeping on the and Ramdev was also sleeping on the dias along with his core group. A large police forcelobbed tear gas shells and lathicharged to evict the crowd from 1a.m. to 4 a.m. The tent was set on fire at manyplaces. Cold water was thrown over power generators to create complete darkness to prevent any video recording ofthe whole attack. However most media persons recorded what was going on.
