The LSC men have a 12-4 overall record so far this season. In the NCAA South Central Region, the men’s teams are currently 6-0 combined versus Heartland Conference teams and 3-3 against the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. The LSC women are 4-12 overall. The women’s squads are currently 0-5 combined against the Heartland, and 2-2 versus RMAC teams, which are the other conferences in the NCAA South Central Region. PLAYERS OF THE WEEK MEN’S OFFENSIVE Darrell Williams, Texas A&M University - Commerce, SR, Forward, Chicago, Ill., Dunbar Vocational HS Williams, in his first action on the court for the Lions, scored 21 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for a double- double. He was an efficient 8-of-11 from the floor in the season opening win over Lubbock Christian. Williams notched 20 points on 7-of-13 shooting from the floor as A&M-C defeated New Mexico Highlands. MEN’S DEFENSIVE Chris Jones, Angelo State University, SR, Guard, Dallas, Texas, Lakeview Centennial HS Jones led the Rams with seven steals and helped the team limit its two opponents to 29 percent shooting and to 55.5 points per game in two wins last weekend. Jones, who led also led the team with nine assists during the weekend, averaged 9.5 points and 4.0 rebounds per game in the wins. He secured five defensive rebounds in ASU’s 97-60 season-opening win over OPSU where he also had four steals and 11 points, while following that effort up with a three steals and eight points against the Dustdevils. WOMEN’S OFFENSIVE La’Tisha Hearne, Texas A&M University - Commerce, SR, Forward, Richardson, Texas, Richardson HS Hearne stuffed the stat-sheet in the Lions’ inaugural week of play, averaging a double-double (16.5 points, 11 rebounds) while tallying three assists, three blocks, and three steals to go along with her 55 percent field goal percentage. In the overtime win against McMurry, she recorded a double-double with 17 points and 13 boards. Hearne added 16 points and nine rebounds versus Henderson State. Having only notched 12 assists and seven blocks all of last season, the senior forward looks poised to have a career year. Not only that, Hearne has sacrificed her body on defense, drawing seven charges through two games. WOMEN’S DEFENSIVE Andrea Carter, Midwestern State University, SR, Forward, Angleton, Texas, Angleton HS Carter notched her 30th career double-double with 15 points and 14 rebounds leading Midwestern State to a season opening 77-62 win over Adams State Friday night at D.L. Ligon Coliseum. It was her third consecutive lid lifting double-double to move into fourth place on MSU’s all-time rebounding list with 776. She also became the 13th player in program history to eclipse 1,100 points. Carter averaged 10.5 points and 8.5 rebounds while going 15-of-16 from the charity stripe. She added four steals as MSU limited the opposition to 39.1 shooting while splitting results against Adams State and 7th-ranked Emporia State in the Ashbrook Classic. MEN’S OTHER TOP PERFORMERS Bretson McNeal, Midwestern State University, poured a Lone Star Conference leading 22 points per game while helping Midwestern State to a split at the Al Kaly Classic last weekend in Pueblo, Colo. The 6-2 guard from Minneapolis poured in a game-high 25 points on 10-of-19 shooting with three 3-pointers to lift the Mustangs to a season opening 77-63 win over Western State Colorado. McNeal then notched a game-high 19 points on 7-of-14 shooting with three triples against Colorado State-Pueblo to gain all-tournament honors. Michael Randle, Eastern New Mexico University, after scoring just 17 points in 12 games last season, broke out in the season opening overtime win against Texas A&M International with a career-high 22 points on 7-of-8 shooting including a perfect 4-for-4 on three-pointers. He added six rebounds, three assists and two steals in the game as well. Randle followed with 18 points while going 6-of-11 from the field, made all five of his free throw attempts, dished out three assists, grabbed two boards and had two steals. For the week, he averaged 20.0 ppg, 4.0 rpg, 3.0 apg and 2.0 spg while make 13-of-19 shots, 5-of-9 from beyond the arc and went 9-for-12 at the charity stripe. Antjuan Ball, West Texas A&M University, led the Buffs in scoring each game at the Al Kaly Shriner’s Classic in Pueblo, Colo. leading to a selection on the All-Tournament team. He tallied 18 points in a loss against CSU- Pueblo, shooting 8-for-13 from the field and nearly grabbing a double-double with nine rebounds. Ball followed up with a 20-point, 18-rebound performance in a 2OT loss to Western State on a neutral floor. Ball grabbed a crucial tip-in bucket with 3 seconds left to send the game into the first extra period. Jordan Jahr, Texas A&M University - Kingsville, went 13-of-14 from the charity stripe and finished with his second career double-double (23 points and 13 rebounds) in a double overtime, season opening win over Lake Erie... he added three steals and one block against the Storm... two days later, Jahr posted 14 points, nine rebounds and one block against Henderson State... on the week, Jahr went 10-of-18 from the field, 15-of-16 from the free throw line and 2-of-5 from three-point range... he also pulled down 22 rebounds and swiped three passes. Deondre Ray, Cameron University, paced the Aggies in his first two games after averaging 17.5 points and shooting .688 (11-16) on the floor. Ray was near lights out from beyond the arc going seven for nine. On Saturday night against USAO, Ray netted 21 points, and shot down five blocks which was a two season high for the Aggies. The junior forward from Fort Worth also added a pair of assists and went 6-8 at the line to help guide CU to a 2-0 start. Mo Lee, Tarleton State University, started his senior campaign with a bang by leading the No. 12 Tarleton State Texans to a pair of wins at the 11th annual Texan Tip-Off Classic presented by Whataburger. Lee, a senior from Bronx, New York, was named the MVP of the tournament after scoring 35 total points in two games for a 17.5 scoring average on .440 percent shooting from the floor and .556 shooting from beyond the arc. He also grabbed 16 total rebounds, including 10 against Lubbock Christian for his first double-double of the season. He also had five assists and a team-high four steals in the two games. Demario Mayfield, Angelo State University, started the season by leading the Rams with 12.0 points per game last weekend in a pair of wins over OPSU and TAMIU. Mayfield, a senior from Georgia, opened the season with a team-leading 15 points in a 97-60 win over the Aggies before adding nine points in an 86-51 win over the Dustdevils. He shot 50 percent for the weekend on a 7-for-14 performance and also hit four 3-pointers and went 6-for-7 from the free-throw line. Mayfield also provided five assists and seven rebounds during the weekend. Mo Lee, Tarleton State University, started his senior campaign with a bang by leading the No. 12 Tarleton State Texans to a pair of wins at the 11th annual Texan Tip-Off Classic presented by Whataburger. The 6-4 forward garnered all-tournament honors after averaging 14 points and nine rebounds to go along with three blocked shots and four steals. Blackburn notched a double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds go to along with two blocked shots and two steals in a season opening win over Western State Colorado. He finished tournament play with 15 points, six rebounds, a blocked shot and two steals Saturday night against Colorado State-Pueblo. Jason Clardy, Eastern New Mexico University, in his first two games in an Greyhound uniform, led the team in rebounding in both contests. He averaged 9.5 rpg with seven rebounds against Texas A&M International and 12 versus Oklahoma Panhandle State. In both games Clardy grabbed four offensive boards. Against the Dustdevils, he had three defensive rebounds and retrieved eight versus the Aggies. Clardy added 9.0 ppg while making 7-of-10 from the field and going 4-for-7 at the free throw line. WOMEN’S OTHER TOP PERFORMERS Chontiquah White, West Texas A&M University, tallied her 23rd career doubled-double with 20 points and 10 rebounds against UTPB. It was the 24th game she has led the team in scoring and 40th in rebounding. White went 6 of 9 from the field and 8 of 11 from the line with her 15th career game of 20 points or more. In the first half, she had just five points and six rebounds. White added two assists and three steals with no turnovers in the game. She moved into 13th all-time in scoring with 1,170 career points. Jasmine Caston, Angelo State University, was named to the Tarleton State Invitational All-Tournament team after averaging 19.5 points in two games. The sophomore scored a season-high 23 points in her ASU debut against St. Mary’s. She came back the next day and scored 16 points versus Southern Arkansas. She hit 44-percent of her shots and 76-percent from the free throw line. Tori Tucker, Eastern New Mexico University, paced the Zias in the first two games of the season and reached double figures both times. She poured in 22 points with six rebounds in the opener against Colorado School of Mines. Tucker also contributed 14 points, six boards and a career-best five assists against University of Colorado-Colorado Springs. Dating back to last season, she has posted at least 14 points and five rebounds in five consecutive games. Ikpeaku Iwobi, Tarleton State University, made her debut in the starting lineup and lifted Tarleton State to an overtime win over Southern Arkansas in the first game of the season with her third career double-double effort. Iwobi, a sophomore from Houston, earned her first career start Friday night against Southern Arkansas and did not disappoint with a career-high 19 points and 10 rebounds against the Muleriders. She came back in Saturday’s game against St. Mary’s to post a 10-point, nine-rebound effort against the Rattlers, despite playing just 20 minutes due to foul trouble. She shot .429 from the field and .917 from the free throw line in 12 attempts. In two games, she totaled 29 points and 18 rebounds with six steals and an assist. She was also named to the all-tournament team at the TexAnn Tip-Off Classic presented by Whataburger. Ashley Salazar, Texas Woman’s University, helped the Pioneers to 1-1 record in the season opener tournament at Midwestern State. She led the team with 14.0 points per game and four steals while shooting 58.3 (7-for-12) percent from the floor, 66.7 (4-for-6) percent from the three-point range and a perfect 100 (10-for-10) percent from the free-throw line. After a tough loss to #7 Emporia State on Friday, Salazar led the game with a career-high 19 points in a 32-point win against Adams State on Saturday. She shot 71.4 percent from the floor while hitting 3 of 5 from the three-point range against the Grizzlies. Salazar also had 4.5 rebounds per game and three assist in the two games. Jasmine Johnson, Eastern New Mexico University, paced a strong defensive effort by the Zias to hold Colorado

Johnson nearly registered a double double against Colorado Mines, with nine points, 15 rebounds and two steals. Kenesha Saygo, Texas Woman’s University, helped the Pioneers to 1-1 record in the season opener tournament at Midwestern State. She led the team with 11 rebounds and 10 assists in the two games. Saygo posted 9 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists and 2 steals against #7 Emporia State and then added 7 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists in a 32-point win against Adams State. She was a key contributor on both offense and defense in an in-region win against the Grizzlies. Ikpeaku Iwobi, Tarleton State University, made her debut in the starting lineup and lifted Tarleton State to an overtime win over Southern Arkansas in the first game of the season with her third career double-double effort. Iwobi, a sophomore from Houston, earned her first career start Friday night against Southern Arkansas and did not disappoint with a career-high 19 points and 10 rebounds against the Muleriders. She came back in Saturday’s game against St. Mary’s to post a 10-point, nine-rebound effort against the Rattlers, despite playing just 20 minutes due to foul trouble. She shot .429 from the field and .917 from the free throw line in 12 attempts. In two games, she totaled 29 points and 18 rebounds with six steals and an assist. She was also named to the all-tournament team at the TexAnn Tip-Off Classic presented by Whataburger. Danielle Logan, West Texas A&M University, tallied her first career double-double with 13 points and a career-high 10 rebounds against UT-Permian Basin on Friday. She went 4 of 10 from the field and led the team with three triples. She had one assist, one steal and one block. She and senior Chontiquah White each had double-doubles in the game marking the first time since White and former Lady Buff Devin Griffin each had double-doubles against Colorado Mesa (3/17/14). La’Tisha Hearne, Texas A&M University - Commerce, stuffed the stat-sheet in the Lions’ inaugural week of play, averaging a double-double (16.5 points, 11 rebounds) while tallying 3 assists, 3 blocks and 3 steals to go along with her 55 percent field goal percentage. Having only notched 12 assists and 7 blocks all of last season, the senior forward looks poised to have a career year. Not only that, Hearne has sacrificed her body on defense, drawing seven charges through two games.

MEN’S NOTES (Submitted by LSC SID’s)Angelo State The Rams opened their season with a pair of non-conference wins over Oklahoma Panhandle and Texas A&M International last weekend at the Junell Center and will host UTPB tonight and Arkansas Tech at 3 p.m. on Saturday. ASU outscored its opponents 183-111 last weekend with Demario Mayfield leading the team with 12 points per game and Marsell Holden adding 10 points per game. Bilal Richardson contributed five rebounds per game and Chris Jones has nine assists and seven steals through the first two games to lead the Rams in those categories. Mayfield paced the Rams with 15 points in the season-opening 97-60 win over TAMIU, while Holden led the way with 18 points against he Aggies.

Cameron

Cameron came out of their season opening weekend with a 2-0 record, beating St. Gregory’s 93-73 on Friday night and then taking down USAO 97-81 on Saturday. Between the two games, the Aggies shot lights out, hitting 56 percent of their shots from the field. They were also deadly beyond the arc, going 53 percent, and converted 67 percent of their free throw attempts. CU was dominant in the first half scoring 108 points and only giving up 68 during the two first halves. On defense, Cameron held the two teams to a combined shooting percentage of .387, and limited them to making only 26 percent of their shots from beyond the arc. Over the two game span, the CU defense racked up five steals and 14 blocks, and also won the rebounding battle with a 14.5 rebounding margin. The Aggies have four players averaging over 10 points a game so far, with Deondre Ray leading the way with 17.5 points a game and Desmond Henry right behind him with 16 points per game. On the glass, Tank Mayberry leads the team with 6.5 rebounds per contest, while Jamaal Brantley and Matthew Don both average six boards per game. Bruce Barron currently leads the team in assists with 5.5 per game, with DJ Jackson averaging 4.5 helpers per contest. Cameron will be back in action on Nov. 22 when they head to north to face Northwestern Oklahoma State.

Eastern New Mexico Eastern New Mexico went 2-0 in the opening weekend of the season at the Ed Messbarger Tip-Off Classic hosted by Angelo State. The Greyhounds defeated Texas A&M International, who was a South Central Regional participant, 92-88 in overtime on Friday. They followed with a 102-94 shootout victory against Oklahoma Panhandle State Saturday afternoon. The Greyhounds are off to their first 2-0 start in four seasons while Stott Carter is the first Eastern head coach to win his first two games in charge of the program since Larry Riley in the 1978-79 campaign. In Saturday’s game, ENMU attempted 40 shots from beyond the arc which is the most by a Greyhound squad in at least 14 years. Michael Randle broke out in the season opener as he scored a career-high 22 points after putting up only 17 points in 12 games last season. He was 7-of-8 from the field and made all four of his three-point attempts against the Dustdevils. He followed with 18 points versus the Aggies. Lawrence Domingo averaged 17.5 ppg, 5.5 rpg, 1.5 apg and 1.0 spg while shooting 60.0% from the field. Also averaging double-figures in scoring was Demetrius Balark with 14.0 ppg, including a 5-for-13 performance on three-points against OPSU. Leading the team in rebounding at 9.5 rpg was Jason Clardy. This week the Greyhounds play three games. They travel to take on Colorado State-Pueblo on Tuesday and Fort Lewis on Thursday. ENMU then takes on Western New Mexico in Albuquerque in The Pit Saturday night.

The Mustangs claimed a 77-63 win over Western State Colorado before dropping an 89-76 decision to Colorado State-Pueblo... Junior guard Bretson McNeal earned all-tournament honors after averaging 22 points per game at the Al Kaly Classic... Senior forward Xavier Blackburn also gained all-tournament honors after averaging 14 points and nine rebounds per game... McNeal leads the LSC in scoring at 22.0 points per contest including three 3-point makes per game while hitting 51.5 percent of his shots from the field... Blackburn is shooting 52.2 percent from the

field and rates fourth in the LSC in rebounding at 9.0 per game... Senior forward Tavarion Nix scored 10 points to go along with five rebounds and two steals in 13 minutes Friday against Western State Colorado... Junior guard Hershell Grant notched 12 points and six rebounds in 26 minutes off of the bench Saturday against Colorado State-Pueblo...

Tarleton State No. 12 Tarleton State opened the season with a pair of wins in its season-opening tournament. The Texans defeated New Mexico Highlands and Lubbock Christian at the Texan Tip-Off Classic presented by Whataburger and were led by Mo Lee’s 17.5 points per game. Lee was named the MVP of the tournament while TaShawn Mabry and Davene Carter earned all-tournament status.

Texas A&M-Commerce - The Lions are off to a 2-0 start after wins over Lubbock Christian and New Mexico Highlands.- Darrell Williams opened the season with back-to-back 20-point games for A&M-Commerce.

Texas A&M-Kingsville Texas A&M University-Kingsville went 1-1 in the season opening Emerald Beach Hotel Javelina Men’s Basketball Classic... against Lake Erie, the Hogs came back from a five-point deficit in the final four minutes of regulation to defeat the Storm in double overtime, 96-93... in the game, the Hogs went 30-of-41 from the free throw line, including 18-of-20 in overtime... two days later, the Javelinas rallied from behind to tie the game after trailing by as much as 14, but the Reddies of Henderson State escaped Kingsville with a 65-61 win.

West Texas A&M The West Texas A&M men’s basketball team began a new season under first-year head coach Tom Brown at the 31st annual Al Kaly Shriner’s Classic last weekend in Pueblo, Colo. Though the Buffs dropped two contests, the young squad with only three returners showed several improvements from a team that finished last in the LSC a year ago. After scoring 80 points in just seven games last season, WT managed that feat in both losses to CSU-Pueblo and Western State, including a 2OT loss to the Mountaineers on Saturday. Senior Antjuan Ball was named to the All-Tournament team, coming one rebound shy of two double-doubles on the weekend. The Buffs will return to action on the road against Wayland Baptist on Tuesday (11/18) followed by their home opener against CSU-Pueblo on Saturday (11/22).

Senior forward Andrea Carter completed her 30th career double-double with 15 points and 14 rebounds in Friday night’s season opener against Adams State. It was the third straight year Carter led off the season with a double-double as she went for 20 points and 20 rebounds against McMurry in 2012 and 19 points and 12 rebounds against Colorado State-Pueblo in 2013... Carter became the 13th player in MSU history to eclipse the 1,100-point barrier and needs 77 points to move past Michelle Mims (1177 points from 1985-89) into 11th... Carter moved past Denise Pittman (772 rebounds from 1994-98) into fourth place on the all-time rebounding list and with 776 needs 64 to eclipse Lounette Adkins (839 rebounds from 1978-79, 80-81, 93-95)... Senior guard Shatoia Gober matched a career high with 18 points against Adams State. She is shooting 60 percent from the field through the first two games of the season (9-for-15)... With eight assists last weekend, senior guard Dianna Jones vaulted past Stacey Staten (263 assists from 2004-08) into ninth place with 265. She needs 39 to pass J.J. Anderson (303 from 1997-01)... Dianna Jones battled her way to 12 points and seven rebounds to pace the Mustangs against Emporia State... Senior guard Lisa Hampton knocked down four triples during the Ashbrook Classic and now has 87 career 3-pointers -- good for 13th on MSU’s all-time list. Tarleton State Misty Wilson earned her first career win in dramatic fashion as the TexAnns won the season opener with an overtime win over Southern Arkansas. The TexAnns followed up by dropping a heartbreaker to St. Mary’s Saturday night. Tarleton will host Texas Wesleyan next Saturday at 5 p.m.

Texas Woman’s The TWU basketball team opened the season with a 1-1 record at MSU Archbrook Classic over the weekend. The Pioneers fell to #7 Emporia State before cruising to a 32-point win against Adams State. The win against the Grizzlies is the biggest margin of victory for TWU since Nov. 18, 2011, when the Pioneers defeated Oklahoma Panhandle State, 110-76. Senior Ashley Salazar led the team with 14.0 points per game and four steals while shooting 58.3 (7-for-12) percent from the floor, 66.7 (4-for-6) percent from the three-point range and a perfect 100 (10-for-10) percent from the free-throw line. Sophomore Kenesha Saygo was a key contributor on both offense and defense with 8.0 ppg, 5.5 rpg and 10 assists. Sophomore Emily Spector made her debut with the Pioneers and averaged 12.0 points.

Freshman Morgan Easley and sophomore Erin Maxwell also made their debuts and averaged 8.0 and 7.5 points respectively. Maxwell had five blocks against Adams State.

West Texas A&M The Lady Buffs, ranked No. 1 in the preseason poll, struggled in their home-opener Friday in a 77-73 upset loss to UT-Permian Basin...The Lady Buffs could not put away the pesky Falcons as the Lady Buffs led 33-29 at intermission...Senior Chontiquah White tallied a double-double in the game with 20 points and 10 rebounds leading four players in double figures...WT uncharacteristically struggled from the free throw line and from beyond the arc...The Lady Buffs went 19 of 30 from the line and just 4 of 22 from range...17 turnovers led to a 22-14 advantage in points off turnovers for UTPB...Sophomore Sasha Watson had a career-high 16 points on 5 of 7 from the field and 6 of 11 from the line...The game saw 15 lead changes and 15 ties...3’s and free throw shooting were the difference in the game as UTPB went 8 of 25 from range and 19 of 26 from the line...WT held a 42-30 lead in rebounding...Junior Danielle Logan also had a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds...It was the first season the Lady Buffs opened at home since 2009-2010...It also snapped an 18-game home winning streak dating back to 2012-13...WT went 15-0 at home last season...The Lady Buffs travel to New Mexico Highlands Wednesday and then to Adams State on Saturday before returning home to host the PAK-A-SAK Thanksgiving Classic Nov. 28-29.
