    BEAUTY

That Anna Laub turned a trend-forecasting career into a booming sunglasses and

beachwear business is fitting; the industrious Londoner loves to soak up some

rays. "When it's sunny, I am perfectly content going for long walks, reading, or just

hanging out eating and drinking with friends." Laub's other reason for rejoicing in

the season? "I love a summer wardrobe. I've never liked layering loads of knit-

wear; I much prefer to throw on a light shirtdress and some espadrilles, grab my

sunglasses, and go"that'd be a pair of Prisms, of course.

    BEAUTY

"Being a working mother can bring its challenges," says Lucy Marrand she would

know. With her hand in a considerable number of honeypotsincluding a new cos-

metics line; the beauty salon and boutique she runs with her husband, the hairstylist

Stephen Marr, and Kiwi designer, Karen Walker; and, of course, family lifeevery

day is a juggling act. "I do the mad school rush, try as accurately and swiftly as

possible to get food into their cute button mouths, and navigate the next four hours

with the skill of a UN peacekeeper," Marr jokes. She loves summer. "The days are

longer and hotter, and the serotonin levels of the general population are considerably

    higher!"

Laura Hayden is running late. Shesends me a text Hi darling! it starts, full of zing. Shes

stuck in trafc but on her way, So sorry-See you soon.

When Laura nally arrives at Cup&Cake, where weve

arranged to meet for a coffee, she is thirty minutes late.

She appears in the doorway, walks hurriedly across

the room to our table and greets me with a hug and

ustered smiles. She apologises immediately explain-ing that she was already late and had decided to take

a taxi instead of walking, as she usually does, to keep

me from waiting, but because of busy trafc she just

ended up popping out of the car and running the last

couple of blocks so I didnt have to wait even longer.

As Laura settles herself over a pot of green tea, it

becomes clear she is still the giggly 23 year-old Ive

known for long, despite she has become not only

Spains new it-girl but also MTV presenter, model and

designer Angel Schlessers new muse. She is dressed

smartly but unfussily: a striped Twenty8Twelve jump-er, Acne jeans and Marni lace-ups, all in black. Her

Chanel bag, also black, sits beside her. Her naturally

discrete make-up and her long blonde hair, worn in

a soft ponytail, make her look as if she was fteen.

Half Spanish, half English, she was born and raised

in Barcelona with two younger sisters, Emma and

Hanna. While studying, Laura started modelling when

she was only sixteen and it didnt take long for her to

really start becoming a regular in agency castings. She

nished school studies and moved to Tokyo for workand stayed there a couple of months. It was there when

she started her blog Hora Confessions with her model

friend who was in Tokyo with her, Heather Burton. The

blog didnt have immediate success but it soon started

creating buzz because of its daily video posts on a

models life behind-the-scenes. I edited all of the vide-

os that were posted on the blog; it was something I had

never done before but that I just really started to enjoy.

Laura was also very active on Twitter, which gained her

a certain popularity that would raise her up to fame in

the blogger universe. When I came back from Tokyo,Pull&Bear wanted me and two male twins to be the

new faces of the brand and everything just changed

from there; my face was in every Pull&Bear bag and

poster around the world. I couldnt believe or imagine

this would be the beginning of my whole career.

Laura was soon hired by MTV Spain to be the new

English speaking television presenter for the chan-

nel. I think my luck is for being in the right place at

the right moment with the right people; MTV gave

me the best opportunity of my lifeI got to meet

and interview .amazing people at the MTV Awards

nightI was happy only for the chance of being there.

Thanks to working for MTV, Laura gained a lot of

experience and met lots of different people, most of

them celebrities, that would help her move on and

gain visibility in medias. Something that also helped

Laura was her passion for fashion, which she made

quite obvious in most of her blogs posts. This took her

to become a new icon of style for Spanish girls and the

industry started inviting her to events, fashion showsand she even got to work for Harpers Bazaar Spain

due to her friendship with editor in chief, Melania Pan.

What I feel for fashion is mainly inspiration. I just

think its something so creative with so many things

you can enjoy, buy and create. Laura has been in-

vited by several designers to fashion week shows,

including Chanel, which she believed has helped her

improve and dene her personal style. I love Chanel,

I think Karl Lagerfeld is doing a fantastic job with

the brand and I will be travelling to Paris for fashion

week to see the showI have already seen a cou-

ple of shows and everything is just like a dream.

So much travelling makes Lauras life much more

complicated than it used to be. She is living in both

Madrid and London and travels to Barcelona, where

her family lives, whenever she has a chance to. I love

London and absolutely love Madridbut my child-

hood, my family and my best friends are all in Bar-

celona. And thats what everything is about; staying

close to those you love, to your rootsyou mustnt

let work take that away. Laura has made herself sopleasantly amenable. She is down-to-earth, even low-

key and she is conscious of her reality. I dont know

what will be next. My future is unwrittenI will accept

any kind of opportunity and just go with the ow and

wherever that goesthats were my future will be.

Laura is now focused on music: she just started with

Faro, a music band she has been working on with

some friends with rst single already out. I wanted

to do music since I was very little. Ive always liked

singing. Well, and dancing, but you dont want tosee that she giggles but I never believed I would

end up doing this. I simply didnt imagine a life ded-

icated to something like music. I did it for funand

now it turns out to be my next big step. Its fantastic

but its also a lot of work, very hard work. Its also

scary sometimes. Laura knows about hard work,

she has clearly been working hard to get where

she is know and will continue to do until she can.

You have to be strong and keep focused. You have

a lort of pressure and you have to learn how to dealwith it. If you dont, well everything starts going wrong.
