1. Logging into the Student Performance Tool

1.1. Once you are connected to the HISD network, you can access the tool by clicking on the following link: http://houstonisd.org/teacherappraisal . This link is also located under HISD Applications Links on the Employee Portal main page.

1.2. After clicking the link in step one you should arrive at the appraisal tools landing page shown below.

1.3. Once here, Click on “Log into Student Performance Tool” to navigate to the login page of the SP tool.

1.4. On the Student Performance tool landing page, click on the Login button.

1.5. On the Student Performance tool login page, enter your network User ID and Password and then click “Login” to access the tool.

1.6. After logging into the Student Performance Tool, you will be presented with the Principal, Appraiser or Teacher landing page depending on your role(s). General information about the landing pages is below.

1.6.1.Page Information Pane The page information pane contains information about the profile that you are

reviewing. Upon entry to the Student Performance Tool, your name, ID number and position should appear in this box; and, after selecting an appraiser or teacher in the navigation area, the page information will update to display information about the person that you have selected.

1.6.2.Messages Pane Important messages regarding the Student Performance process such as upcoming

deadlines will appear in this area. 1.6.3.Navigation Pane

The navigation pane is the primary resource for navigating through the various worksheets that will be created and maintained in this tool. This area also

serves as a means to navigate between appraisers and/or teachers. In the case that the user is a principal as well as an appraiser, the principal’s name will be displayed twice in this area to reflect the two responsibilities. Clicking on a name in this

pane will reveal any subordinates or existing worksheets. Clicking on the name of the worksheet will take you to that worksheet.

1.6.4.Progress Bar The progress bar fills to reflect where teachers are in the overall Student Performance evaluation process. For teachers, progress bars appear gray for courses that are assigned Value-Added or Comparative Growth courses indicating that these courses are not handled through this tool.

1.6.5.Workspace The workspace is the center area of the screen. It’s where all of the work is completed within the Student Performance Tool (i.e. assigning measures, assigning starting points and goals, reviewing completed goals worksheets, and assigning Student Performance ratings).

1.6.6.Button Bar This area is located at the bottom of the screen and contains all of the buttons that are required to drive the appraisal process toward completion and print the contents of various worksheets.

1.6.7.User Information Area Information about the user is displayed in this area at the top of the screen. Additionally, this section tells the user whether they are looking at a principal, appraiser, or teacher dashboard.

1.6.8.Logout & Extra Resources Area The logout button is located in this portion of the screen, and you will also find helpful resources like the appraisal calendar and help guide here.

2. Reviewing and Acknowledging the Measures Worksheet

2.1. Please note: The district has identified the measure types that may be assigned to courses and in some cases a course will have a required measure. If one or more of your courses has a district-required measure, it will be in red and will be included in your Student Performance rating.

2.2. Navigate to your teacher’s Measures Worksheet2.2.1. Find your Measures Worksheet below your name in the navigation pane located in the

lower left hand side of your screen.2.2.2. Click on Measure Worksheet

2.3. Acknowledge the measures assigned to your courses2.3.1. Review the measures assigned to your courses. If a checkmark appears in the box next

to a measure, it has been assigned to the course in that row.2.3.2. After you have reviewed the measures assigned to your courses, click the Response

button at the bottom of the screen.

2.3.3.You will be presented with a confirmation screen 2.3.3.1. Select the first option if you have discussed your course measure assignment

with your appraiser.2.3.3.2. Select the second option if you wish to discuss the measures with your

appraiser before acknowledging.

2.3.3.3. Click Submit (Note: Your appraiser will be notified by email of your acknowledgement or request to discuss your measure assignment.)

3. Completing the Goals Worksheet

3.1. Navigate to your Goals Worksheet3.1.1. Find your Goals Worksheet below your name in the navigation pane located in the lower

left hand side of your screen.3.1.2. Click on the course to view its Goals Worksheet (You may have more than one).

3.2. Identify the assessment or work product that will be used3.2.1. Click the Tool button to review or enter the assessment or work product that you will use

to measure your students’ progress at the end of the course and click Save. (Note: If a district-wide assessment is assigned to the course, you will be required to use that assessment.)

3.3. Starting point Category and the Evidence 3.3.1. Entering the starting point category and the evidence used to determine the starting

point for each student.3.3.1.1. Click on the student’s name, enter the starting point and evidence, and click

Save.3.3.1.1.1. At least one type of evidence must be provided.3.3.1.1.2. To edit several students at once, click on the check box next to the

students’ names and click the Edit button. You can also select all students in the course at once by clicking the word Name at the top of the screen.

3.3.1.1.3. If many students in the course have the same starting point or evidence, you can assign all students the same starting point category and/or evidence, and then change information for individual students who differ.

3.4. Setting goals for each starting point category 3.4.1. Click on the Goals button at the bottom of the screen

3.4.2. For each starting point category, enter the minimum score a student in the category would need to earn at the end of the course on the identified assessment/work product in order to demonstrate that he/she made ambitious and feasible progress. Click Save.

3.4.2.1. The numeric value can represent a raw score, percentage or performance level (e.g. 130 points, 93 percent or level 5).

3.4.2.2. Scores must be entered in the same format at the end of the term in order to determine if students met the goal.

3.4.3. Verify the following before submitting your goals to your appraiser.3.4.3.1. An assessment or work product has been identified for the course (Tool

button).3.4.3.2. Starting point categories have been assigned to all students3.4.3.3. At least one type of evidence is present for each student.3.4.3.4. Goals have been set for each starting point category (Goal button).

3.4.4. Click the Submit button to send an email notification to your appraiser letting him/her know the worksheet is ready for review and approval.

IMPORTANT! Do not submit this worksheet to your appraiser until you are certain that the scores you have entered are final. You may save as often as you like, but once you submit this worksheet you won’t be able to make changes to it.

4.1.2. Entering students’ scores on the assessment or work product4.1.2.1. Enter the numeric score in the Score column and click Enter on your keyboard

4.1.2.1.1. You can also click on a student’s name, enter the score and click Next or Save & Close.

4.1.2.1.2. Leave the Score field blank if you do not have a score for the student.

4.1.3. Enter comments for your appraiser regarding student attendance or Student Performance on the assessment or work product.

4.1.3.1. To enter a comment for a student, click on the student’s name.

4.1.3.2. To enter comments for your appraiser regarding a student’s performance on the assessment/work product, enter a comment in the Comments about Student’s Results field.

4.1.3.2.1. Enter comments for student(s) for who do not have scores or students who didn’t meet the goal score, but who you feel made ambitious and feasible progress. Your appraiser will determine whether the student should be counted as having met the goal.

4.1.3.2.2. Your appraiser can view the Results Worksheet if you click Save and can exclude students for attendance reasons without scores being present.

4.1.3.3. To flag a student who you believe should be removed from your Student Performance calculation because of attendance, enter a comment in the Comments about Attendance field.

4.1.3.3.1. Enter attendance comments if the tool indicates that a student met the attendance threshold for the class, but the student actually missed more than 25% of class days, according to your attendance records.

4.1.3.4. Click Save & Close

4.1.3.5. Click the Submit button to send an email notification to your appraiser letting him/her know the worksheet is ready for review.

4.1.3.5.1. Only click the Submit button after the scores you have entered are final. You will not be able to edit the information on this screen after you submit it to your appraiser. You may save as often as you like before submitting.

5. Pre-K Supplement

5.1. Measures Work Sheet 5.1.1.The only change for the measures worksheet is that the PRE-K classes will be denoted in

green and preselected and cannot be unselected. 5.1.2. The remainder of the measures sheet process stays the same. 5.1.3. Note if you also teach Kindergarten you will still receive two other measures.

5.2. Goals Work Sheet5.2.1. You will still acknowledge the measures like the standard process and goal work sheets

will be created. 5.2.2. The goals worksheets process has not changed. Starting points are set by the teacher and

the Goal section will be prepopulated for the CPALLS assessment. 5.2.3. NOTE: for the Language arts course the GOAL that is being set is for Vocabulary, you will

be asked on the result worksheet if the child can Identify 20 UC & 20 LC Letters.

5.3. Results Work Sheet5.3.1.Language & Arts

5.3.1.1. The result worksheet process is similar to the normal result worksheet. You will enter the vocabulary score in the score column for each student and check off each student that can Identify 20 UC & 20 LC letters using the column with the same header.
