E ND OF Y EAR The end of the year is getting closer and this is almost our last Bulletin for 2013. We have a busy time coming up in the next few weeks with several changes to routine. These changes in routine can often cause some excitement in students. We understand that this is an exciting time for all students with many changes and different things happening each week. They can sometimes lose control or forget how to behave in a sensible manner. We also understand that school is still a place where all students and teachers need to feel safe and especially at this time of the year, happy. No teacher wishes to come to school and be concerned their class is misbehaving, being cheeky or rude to teachers or other students or student actions in and out of the class that cause damage to equipment, property or cause harm to another student. There have been a number of incidents over the last 2 weeks where teachers have expressed concern over class behaviour, some individual student behaviour as well as inappropriate incidents in the playground by students from all classes. We have addressed these concerns with a variety of responses. I am extremely disappointed that this matter needs to be raised. I am also at a loss to explain why student general behaviour has become so unlike our usual high standard. We encourage you to discuss general behaviour with your child so that they fully understand that silly or hurtful behaviour is unacceptable at any time of the year and will not be tolerated over the remaining few weeks of this year. If the misbehaviour continues to cause harm, shows a lack of respect for others well being or causes harm to others or their property, then more serious actions will be need to be taken. This action could include exclusion from school activities that are considered a privilege. This can include the school and class fun day/ party day that will be held in the last week of school.

VOLUNTEERS MORNING TEA NEXT WEEK We are hosting our annual thank you morning tea for all our helpers and volunteers. Invitations were

sent home last week and we hope to see as many of our helpers at this morning tea as possible. It is

just a small way in which we can say thank you for helping us out in many different ways throughout

the year. We cannot manage without your help.

END OF YEAR The end of the year is getting closer and this is almost our last Bulletin for

2013. We have a busy time coming up in the next few weeks with several

changes to routine. These changes in routine can often cause some

excitement in students. We understand that this is an exciting time for all

students with many changes and different things happening each week.

They can sometimes lose control or forget how to behave in a sensible

manner. We also understand that school is still a place where all students

and teachers need to feel safe and especially at this time of the year,

happy. No teacher wishes to come to school and be concerned their class

is misbehaving, being cheeky or rude to teachers or other students or

student actions in and out of the class that cause damage to equipment,

property or cause harm to another student. There have been a number of

incidents over the last 2 weeks where teachers have expressed concern

over class behaviour, some individual student behaviour as well as

inappropriate incidents in the playground by students from all classes.

We have addressed these concerns with a variety of responses.

I am extremely disappointed that this matter needs to be raised. I am also

at a loss to explain why student general behaviour has become so unlike

our usual high standard. We encourage you to discuss general behaviour

with your child so that they fully understand that silly or hurtful behaviour

is unacceptable at any time of the year and will not be tolerated over the

remaining few weeks of this year.

If the misbehaviour continues to cause harm, shows a lack of respect for

others well being or causes harm to others or their property, then more

serious actions will be need to be taken. This action could include

exclusion from school activities that are considered a privilege. This can

include the school and class fun day/ party day that will be held in the last

week of school.

STUDENT PROGRESS REPORTS COMING SOON All students will receive a written report for Semester 2 in 2 weeks time. These reports demonstrate

student progress in all key learning areas with a particular emphasis on English and Mathematics.

Please take the time to read these reports so that you are aware of how your child is progressing and

if there are any areas that students need to strengthen. You are able to discuss these with your

child’s teacher if you would like any clarification or if you have a concern. Please make sure you

organise a time convenient to you both.

SCHOOL LEADERS 2014 ELECTIONS HELD SOON Year 5 students have been thinking about their suitability as school leaders for 2014. Students will

have the opportunity to hear candidate’s campaign speeches in our assembly room on Thursday 5th

December at 9:15am. The student body (excluding Year 6) will have the chance to vote immediately

after the speeches. Parents are welcome to join us for these speeches.

The students will elect 2 School Captains and 2 Prefects. Students will receive their badges and be

sworn in at our Presentation Day Assembly on Thursday 12th December. The School Captains will be

elected by popular vote; most votes for a girl and most votes for a boy. The Prefects positions will be

decided by the number of votes received by each student, regardless of their gender. This makes it a

fairer proposition for both boys and girls with only a small number of male candidates. We wish all

students good luck in their campaign for election as a school leader for 2014.

SWIM SCHOOL HAS BEGUN 25 students from year 1-3 have taken up the opportunity to learn to swim over the next 10 days.

Students are being supervised by Mrs. Mitchell and Mrs. Harwood during these swimming sessions.

A qualified Aus Swim teacher is also engaged to assist with groups at the pool. The lessons run for

10 days and we only offer this service every 2 years. Students not involved will be supervised at

school by Mrs. Howard, Mrs. Tomlins and Ms. McCutchan.

P&C CHRISTMAS R AFFLE TICKETS ON SALE SOON . Our final P&C Fundraiser for the year is our Christmas raffle. 8 Prizes will be on offer this year. Books

of raffle tickets will be sent home on Monday next week and the prizes will be drawn at our Christmas

Concert evening on Monday 16th December. Tickets cost $1 each or 3 for $2. A book of 15 tickets

costs $10. Prizes are pictured on the final page. Names drawn from the hat will have a free choice of

the table of prizes.

YEAR 6 ORIENTATION D AY AT RUTHERFORD H IGH SCHOOL All students attending Rutherford Technology HS will have their Orientation Day next Wednesday,

4th December. Students need to spend the day at the high school getting to know the environment

and experiencing some lessons. They will get to meet other students from other schools and

generally get a feel for their new school. We wish all students a great day. Information was sent

home last week with students about the Parent Information Evening held the evening before.

Parents are responsible for getting students to and from the high school that day.

CHRISTMAS SCRIPTURE SERVICE NEXT WEEK Our end of year Scripture Service will be held on Thursday, 5

th December at 10:00am at the

St Joseph Convent Chapel in Lochinvar. All students have a role to play in the Service and parents

are welcome to join us at this service. This is the final scripture activity for 2013.
