Overview The solution

The striking Harbour International Passenger Terminal in Shanghai, China’s largest commercial centre, is the premier gateway for the cruise industry. Making the route to the Old Quarter (known as The Bund) much easier for cruise ship tourists, the 880m long wharf in Hongkou District, is able to berth three international passenger liners of 70,000-80,000 tonnes at a time.

The Terminal was designed to airport standards. Accommodating large passenger flows, it is also home to offices, a restaurant, hotel and shopping centre, as well as other sightseeing facilities. The landmark building is a glass hemisphere in the shape of an irregular ellipse and was part of a £213 million redevelopment stretching 2.2 km along the waterfront.

The Shanghai Harbour International Passenger Terminal is the ‘jewel in the crown’ of the prestigious city development. It is protected with a fire detection system, installed by Jin Zhou, using a combination of Apollo XP95 analogue addressable fire detectors and Series 60 conventional fire detectors – over 4,600 devices in total – along with compatible interfaces. The system is controlled by two eight-loop control panels and also features a state-of-the-art graphics display.
