What is a “Nihongo Partner”

日本語パートナーとはなんでしょう？ A Nihongo Partner is a KGU Japanese

student volunteer who assists an international student, guiding them around the campus and joining them in some of the classes and activities. Students will gain firsthand experience of local Japanese culture with help from their Nihongo partners.

日本語パートナーは関西学院大学の日本人学生です。留学生と一緒にいくつかの授業やイベントに参加します。日本語パートナーを通じて日本の文化・生活に触れることができます。

Small class size少人数制

Class size is limited to around 15 students. In-class activities include group work, presentations etc.

Students can use the skills they learn in class straight away in their everyday life, making for faster acquisition of the Japanese language.

授業で学んだことを授業後すぐ日常生活で使用することにより、早く、また状況に合わせた日本語を習得することが出来ます。

Multiple levelsレベル別の授業

Students are divided into levels based on the results of the placement test on the first day. Thanks to this system, students can enjoy an inten-sive learning experience tailored to their level, and quickly advance their language skills. The final goal is to be able to make a presentation in Japanese.

初日にプレイスメントテストを行い、その結果をもとにクラス分けをします。レベルにあったクラスで日本語を集中的に学ぶことで日本語の向上を目指します。最後に日本語でプレゼンテーションができることを目標としています。

Kwansei Gakuin University's Center for Japanese Language Education runs the Intensive Japanese Language and Culture Study Program twice per year in the summer and winter. This program is only for students from partner universities.This course is aimed mainly at beginner to intermediate level Japanese language students, who will study the basic skills; reading, writing, listening and speaking over the period of the course.The program is by no means limited to classroom learning, and participants will enjoy exchange events with Japanese students, and use their Japanese skills in real life situations such as going shopping on the streets of Japan.These invaluable experiences to “learn by using” are emphasized in this program.Furthermore, in order to deepen their understanding of Japan, students will also enjoy classes on Japanese food and traditional culture, as well as a field trip to Kyoto, the ancient capital of Japan.

関西学院大学日本語教育センターでは、夏と冬の年2回短期集中で日本語を学ぶ「日本語・日本文化学習プログラム」を実施します。このプログラムは本学の協定校に在籍する学生のみが参加できます。主に初級から中級レベルの日本語学習者を対象としたプログラムで「読む」「書く」「聞く」「話す」といった日本語の基礎的な能力の向上を図ります。日本語学習は講義だけではなく、関西学院大学の日本人学生がパートナーとして交流したり、街で日本語を使って買い物を体験したりするなどの実践的な学びにも重点を置いています。また、日本文化に親しみと理解を深めるための日本の食文化や伝統文化を紹介する文化講義や京都へのフィールドトリップも実施します。

“Mastery for Service”

Kwansei Gakuin (KG) is one of the most prestigious private schools in Japan, and was founded in Kobe in 1889 by the American missionary Reverend Walter Russell Lambuth.With the aim to educate young minds based on Christian principles, Kwansei Gakuin has since grown into a leading private comprehen-sive and integrated educational institution consisting of a university, junior college, senior high school, elementary school, kindergarten and international schools. The student’s level (beginner/elementary or intermediate) is decided at the time of application. However, a placement test held on the first day will decide whether a student is placed in the beginner or elementary level.For students who choose the intermediate level, the placement test will decide which class within the intermedi-ate level they are placed into. 申込時のプランによってレベル（初級/初中級か中級）が決定します。ただし、初級・初中級クラスを選択した学生は、初日にプレイスメントテストを行い、その結果によってレベルが決まります。中級クラスを選択した学生は、プレイスメントテストの結果によって同じレベルの中でクラス分けを行います。

Level of study: This course will introduce begin-ner-level Japanese: how to use simple nouns, adjectives, and verbs to talk in Japanese, and is aimed at s t uden t s who h a ve s t ud i ed between 0 and 100 hours of Japa-nese language in the past (equiva-lent to “Genki” Lessons 1-5 or “Minna no Nihongo” Lessons 1-12).レベル：学習時間0時間～100時間程度初めて日本語を学習する～簡単な名詞，形容詞，動詞を使って話せるレベル（げんきL1-5，みんなの日本語L1-12相当）Goals:Using basic expressions, students will become proficient in greetings and simple conversation. They will be able to talk about and ask questions about everyday life situ-ations.到達目標：基本的な表現を使って、あいさつや簡単なやりとりができるようになる。お互いの日常生活について、伝えたり、質問したりできるようになる。

◆Elementary ⅠLevel of study:Students will learn the rules for basic conjugations (dictionary form, ‘te’ form, ‘nai’ form). This level is aimed at students currently studying early-ele-mentary level textbooks, or who have studied between 150 and 200 hours of Japanese language in the past (equivalent to “Genki” Lessons 6-12 or “Minna no Nihongo” Lessons 13-25).レベル：学習時間150時間～200時間程度動詞の基本活用（辞書形，て形，ない形）のルールがわかる～現在，初級前半を学習中のレベル（げんきL6-12，みんなの日本語L13-25相当）◆Elementary ⅡLevel of study:This level is aimed at students currently studying late-elementary level textbooks, or who have studied between 200 and 300 hours of Japanese language in the past (equivalent to “Genki” Lessons 13-21 or “Minna no Nihongo” Lessons 26-50).レベル：学習時間200時間～300時間程度現在，初級教科書の後半を学習中のレベル（げんきL13-21，みんなの日本語L26-50相当）Goals:Using elementary expressions, students will become proficient in everyday conversa-tion. Qualifications受講資格

Grades are decided by a combination of attendance, participation, tests, and pre-sentations. Students who score 60% or higher will receive credit for the course.However, students who do not maintain at least 80% attendance will receive an F(Fail).成績は授業の出席状況・参加度・テスト・プレゼンテーションを基に評価され、60点以上で単位が付与されます。ただし、全体の80％以上の出席がないとF（不合格）となります。

[Transcript / Credit Transfer]［成績証明書 / 単位認定］At the end of the program, a grade tran-script will be sent either to the student’s home university or place of residence.As the credit transfer process is different at every university, students should con-sult with their home university regarding this matter.プログラム終了後、成績証明書を所属大学もしくは自宅に郵送します。単位認定について各大学ごとに取り扱いが異なりますので、自分の所属大学に事前に相談してください。

A student’s level cannot be changed after applying, so course content should be considered carefully before applying.申込後はプランを変更することはできませんので、授業内容をよく確認した上で、申し込んでください。
