Students reviewed the different types of genre and brainstormed what pictures they could take to represent the various genres. Students also learned some picture taking techniques. Next, the students were partnered up and given a genre through a random drawing process. Working with their partner, students completed a storyboard to plan out the pictures they wanted to take for their genre. They spent one library session going around the school and taking their pictures. During their last two library sessions, the students learned how to upload their pictures into iPhoto, edit their photos and create a Comic Life poster for their genre. The poster had to include their photos, their genre title and their names. After they completed their posters, students learned how to save their product as a pdf and attach it to an email. Students emailed their final product to the library staff and their teachers. We then printed a color copy of their poster to use with our new genre locations in the library.

Creating Genre PostersFor our final library skill lesson, the students

created Genre Posters. Students reviewed the different types of genre and

brainstormed what pictures they could take

to represent the various genres. Students also learned some picture taking techniques.

Next, the students were partnered up and

given a genre through a random drawing

process. Working with their partner, students completed a storyboard to plan out

the pictures they wanted to take for their genre. They spent one library session going

around the school and taking their pictures.

During their last two library sessions, the students learned how to upload their

pictures into iPhoto, edit their photos and create a Comic Life poster for their genre.

The poster had to include their photos, their

genre title and their names.

After they completed their posters, students learned how to save their product as a pdf

and attach it to an email. Students emailed

their final product to the library staff and their teachers. We then printed a color copy

of their poster to use with our new genre locations in the library.
