GAS TURBINEGeneral Electric LM6000 is the world’s most fuel-efficient simple-cycle
gas turbine. The LM6000 delivers world class reliability and economy in
simple-cycle, combined-cycle, and cogeneration applications. Proven
design provides long life for base load or peaking power. SPRINT
intercooling adds additional turbine power.
GENERATOR
Air-cooled generator with brushless excitation, rated 71,176 kVA @
0.85 PF, 13,800 volts, 60 Hz, 59° F (15° C) cooling air, suitable for Class 1,
Group D, Division 2 areas. Generator handles the full continuous power of
the gas turbine at any ambient temperature throughout the operating range.
Generator cooling air is filtered by the inlet air filter. Air cooling eliminates
the need for a cooling water loop and associated fans and pumps. Generator
is utility grade, 2-pole synchronous design with brushless excitation and
PMG (permanent magnet generator). Neutral and Lineside cubicles and
voltage regulator are included. (See Section 6 for details.)
DIRECT DRIVE GENERATOR
60-Hertz Generators are directly coupled to the gearbox with a dry,
flexible diaphragm coupling. No gearbox is required. The coupling
transmits full turbine torque to the generator at all operating conditions.
The following equipment and services are included in the basic scope of supply.

ENCLOSURE
Acoustic enclosure for turbine and generator. The unit is protected by a
weatherproof acoustic enclosure with separate compartments for turbineand generator. Each compartment is ventilated with redundant fans.
Hazardous area AC lighting and fire and gas detection equipment are
provided in each compartment. A bridge crane in the turbine compartment
simplifies engine removal and maintenance. (See Section 8 for details.)
BASEPLATE
I-beam baseplate. LM6000 generator sets are mounted on two rugged
I-beam baseplates to simplify shipping and installation. The gas turbine is
mounted on one baseplate; the generator is mounted on the other. Tapered
pins between the baseplates simplify field alignment.
The baseplates are suitable for Uniform Building Code earthquake Zone 4
installations. Lifting spools are built into the baseplates.
INLET AIR SYSTEM
Pre-engineered for performance. GE Aero Energy Products filters all
combustion and ventilation air with a rugged, high-efficiency inlet air
system. We use pre-engineered filter options for job sites with special needs
such as dust, salt air, humidity or other local conditions. Optional cooling
coils improve turbine performance in hot weather, and protect the inlet
during icing conditions (with hot water circulation).
The filter house mounts above the turbine enclosure, supported by the
enclosure frame (or by optional legs). Downward airflow provides filtered
air for combustion and ventilation. This compact filter design is easily
installed in the field, and it eliminates customer-supplied ducting. The filter
system includes a stainless steel inlet silencer and a ladder and platform for
inspection and servicing the filter. (See Section 7 for details.)

All piping is designed and fabricated to ANSI B31.1 Power Piping Code
requirements. Pipe spools are hydrostatically tested at 1.5 times maximum
working pressure. X-ray inspections are made on 100% of steam piping
welds and a random 10% of all other piping welds.

OPTION K EVAPORATIVE COOLING
Lowers inlet temperature for added power.
Recommended when high dry bulb temperatures are
common, with low/medium ambient humidity.
K.1 Non-Recirculating Design
The base evaporative cooler system is a non-
recirculating type, fully piped and wired. Customer
must supply 56 gpm (212 lpm) of filtered, potable
water at 15 psig (103 kPag) into the flange connec-
tion at the GE Aero Energy Products filter house,
and must dispose of drain water from a flanged drain
connection on the filter house.
K.2 Recirculating Design
Similar to the non-recirculating design, except
designed for recirculation of evaporative cooling
water from a sump in the bottom of the inlet air fil-
ter. This option includes recirculation pump, conduc-
tivity probe, blowdown and make-up valves, piping
and wiring. Customer must supply filtered, potable
water to a flanged connection on the filter house and
must dispose of waste water from the blowdown
valve. Flow rates will vary based on blowdown.
K.3 Spray Mist Design
This design mists water directly into incoming air
stream. System includes medium pressure water
delivery skid, weather station, spray array, SOVs,
and coalescers. Weather station reads ambient condi-
tions and the integrated controls command SOVs
open or closed to modulate flow. VFD motor main-
tains constant system pressure throughout operating
range of pump and motor.

lation 3300 gpm (12,493 lpm) supplied by the bal-
ance-of-plant group. (See Section 7 for details.)
OPTION N PULSE FILTER
GE Aero Energy Products uses a pre-engineered,
self-cleaning filter option for job sites with special
needs such as dust, pulp and paper fiber and snow.
Self-cleaning filter elements are provided for com-
bustion and ventilation air paths. The pulse filter
option can be supplied with optional cooling coils to
improve turbine performance in hot weather by cir-
culating chilled water, and protect the inlet during
icing conditions by circulating hot water.

trol panel in monitoring and control features.
OPTION W EXHAUST ASSEMBLY
(SIMPLE CYCLE)
GE Aero Energy Products offers an optional
exhaust silencer assembly for simple cycle installa-
tions. The assembly includes an exhaust expansion
joint, a 90-dB(A) silencer with internally-insulated,

OPTION X GENERATOR STEP-UP TRANS-
FORMER
High efficiency transformers. GE Aero EnergyProducts provides robust, high efficiency step up
transformers, designed and tested to IEEE standards.
Transformer high voltage levels, tap changers and
safety features are built to match customer’s site
requirement. (Please consult GE Aero Energy Prod-
ucts for details).
OPTION Y DC ENCLOSURE LIGHTING
GE Aero Energy Products can furnish DC emer- gency lighting in the turbine and generator enclo-
sures as an option. DC lights turn on if AC power
fails.
OPTION Z NI-CAD BATTERIES
GE Aero Energy Products will furnish nickel-cad-
mium batteries as an option to replace our standard
lead-calcium batteries.
OPTION AAWATER TREATMENT SYSTEM
GE can supply a water treatment system configured
to provide the required water quantity and quality to
meet the operational requirements of the LM6000.
The design incorporates features to enhance perfor-
mance reliability, and incorporates advanced electro-
deionization technology to deliver high purity water
without the need for hazardous chemicals. It is pro-
vided completely assembled, installed and wired in a
separate stand-alone enclosure. Field assembly is
virtually eliminated and connection requirements at
the job site are minimal, so that field labor costs are
low. High purity water is required in the turbine
operation as a pretreatment to optimize efficiency,
specifically in the areas on NOx suppression,
“SPRINT®” (Spray intercooling).
