InvocationP In the name of the Father and of the a Son and of the Holy Spirit. C Amen.

Confession and ForgivenessP If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in

us.C But if we confess our sins, God, who is faithful and just, will forgive

our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

(Silence for reflection on God’s Word and for self-examination.)

P Let us then confess our sins to God our Father.C Most merciful God, we confess that we are by nature sinful and

unclean. We have sinned against you in thought, word and deed, bywhat we have done and by what we have left undone. We have notloved you with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors asourselves. We justly deserve your present and eternal punishment. For the sake of your Son, Jesus Christ, have mercy on us. Forgiveus, renew us, and lead us, so that we may delight in your will andwalk in your ways to the glory of your holy name. Amen.

P In the mercy of almighty God, Jesus Christ was given to die for us, and for his sake God forgives us all our sins. To those who believe in Jesus Christ he gives the power to become the children of God and bestows on them the Holy Spirit. May the Lord, who has begun this good work in us, bring it to completion in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ.

C Amen. The Kyrie

THE SCRIPTURE READINGS

First Lesson Jeremiah 11:18-20Because the Lord revealed their plot to me, I knew it, for at that time heshowed me what they were doing. [19] I had been like a gentle lamb led tothe slaughter; I did not realize that they had plotted against me, saying, "Letus destroy the tree and its fruit; let us cut him off from the land of theliving, that his name be remembered no more." [20] But, O Lord Almighty, you who judge righteously and test the heart and mind, let me see yourvengeance upon them, for to you I have committed my cause.

L This is the Word of the Lord.

C Thanks be to God.

The Psalmody (sung by all) Psalm 54:1–7

O God, save me, 1 | by your name,*and vindicate me | by your might.

O God, 2 | hear my prayer;*give ear to the words | of my mouth.

For strangers have risen against me;3

ruthless men | seek my life;*they do not set God be- | fore themselves.

Behold, God is my 4 | helper;*the Lord is the upholder | of my life.

He will return the evil to my 5 | enemies;*in your faithfulness put an | end to them.

With a freewill offering I will sacri- 6 | fice to you;*I will give thanks to your name, O LORD, for | it is good.

For he has delivered me from every 7 | trouble,*and my eye has looked in triumph on my | enemies.

7

Glory be to the Father and | to the Son*and to the Holy | Spirit;as it was in the be- | ginning,*is now, and will be forever. | Amen.

Second Lesson James 3:13-4:10Who is wise and understanding among you? Let him show it by his goodlife, by deeds done in the humility that comes from wisdom. [14] But if youharbor bitter envy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not boast aboutit or deny the truth. [15] Such "wisdom" does not come down from heavenbut is earthly, unspiritual, of the devil. [16] For where you have envy andselfish ambition, there you find disorder and every evil practice. [17] Butthe wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving,considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere.[18] Peacemakers who sow in peace raise a harvest of righteousness. [4:1]What causes fights and quarrels among you? Don't they come from yourdesires that battle within you? [2] You want something but don't get it. Youkill and covet, but you cannot have what you want. You quarrel and fight. You do not have, because you do not ask God. [3] When you ask, you do notreceive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what youget on your pleasures. [4] You adulterous people, don't you know thatfriendship with the world is hatred toward God? Anyone who chooses to bea friend of the world becomes an enemy of God. [5] Or do you thinkScripture says without reason that the spirit he caused to live in us enviesintensely? [6] But he gives us more grace. That is why Scripture says: "Godopposes the proud but gives grace to the humble." [7] Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. [8] Come near toGod and he will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, andpurify your hearts, you double-minded. [9] Grieve, mourn and wail. Changeyour laughter to mourning and your joy to gloom. [10] Humble yourselvesbefore the Lord, and he will lift you up.

L This is the Word of the Lord.

C Thanks be to God.

The Verse

P The Holy Gospel is written...

Holy Gospel Mark 9:30-37They left that place and passed through Galilee. Jesus did not want anyoneto know where they were, [31] because he was teaching his disciples. He saidto them, "The Son of Man is going to be betrayed into the hands of men. They will kill him, and after three days he will rise." [32] But they did notunderstand what he meant and were afraid to ask him about it. [33] Theycame to Capernaum. When he was in the house, he asked them, "What wereyou arguing about on the road?" [34] But they kept quiet because on the waythey had argued about who was the greatest. [35] Sitting down, Jesus calledthe Twelve and said, "If anyone wants to be first, he must be the very last, and the servant of all." [36] He took a little child and had him stand amongthem. Taking him in his arms, he said to them, [37] "Whoever welcomes oneof these little children in my name welcomes me; and whoever welcomes medoes not welcome me but the one who sent me." P This is the Gospel of the Lord

New Adult Sunday School series! We will return to the subject of the Trinity, and do a deep dive on

this important doctrine of Christianity. Where is the Trinity in the Bible? Does the doctrine of the

Trinity imply that there are really three gods and not just one God? Or is it that God plays several

roles and switches between those roles? Is the doctrine of the Trinity something that was added

later by certain councils and not part of the "original Christianity"? Join us as we deep dive the

doctrine of the Trinity and learn how this doctrine is critical to a proper understanding of true

Christianity. This interactive discussion should be appropriate both for those new to this doctrine

and for those who are well-versed and want to dive more deeply into this doctrine. This new Adult

Bible series will last six weeks and will be facilitated by Jason Tolbert in-person in Klein Hall at 9:50

AM.

We have returned to using lay crucifers at both in-person worship services. All lay people (men and

women) middle-school age and older are welcome to serve as crucifers. This is an especially

important and wonderful way for our youth to serve God and participate in the worship service in

a formal capacity. All crucifers must complete a short training prior to serving - to volunteer/schedule

your training session, please contact Pastor Lissy.

Donations to Living Savior Lutheran Church to continue our ministry are always welcome. If you are

attending today’s service in person, place your offering in the offering plate near the exit from the

Sanctuary. We also accept online contributions which you can access through our website

(www.livingsaviorlutheran.org) and going to the “Contribute Online Here” link at the bottom of our

home page.
