Many people in our country mark the last day of this month as Halloween, but we in the Lutheran Church celebrate October 31st as the birthdate of the Reformation.  It was on that day in 1517 that an Augustinian monk, named Martin Luther, nailed his 500 Theses on the door of the Church in Wittenberg.  Well, if you do your math, we quickly realize that this month marks 499 years since that momentous event.   In remembrance and celebration, we will begin a year-long series of studies, events and worship services dedicated to learning more about our Reformation roots, but also about the ongoing call we have as Christians to spread the Good News that Martin Luther taught and preached from God’s Holy Word.   On October 2nd join us in the Sunday morning Adult Bible Class as we begin the

first of three different video-based studies related to the Reformation.   “No one is justified before God by the law, for ‘The righteous shall live by faith.’” (Galatians 3:11)

There are a lot of itchy eyes, throat clearing and coughing during these early days of Fall. Hooray ragweed! With it, the pace picks up, studies resume, traffic is heavier, and thoughts of upcoming holidays pop up in our minds. God’s magnificent creation reacts to the season changes and we are reminded of the orderliness He ordained and placed into the Universe.

Please WEAR PURPLE on Sunday, October 2nd as we celebrate LWML Sunday. LWML stands for Lutheran Women Missionary League –more modern name, Lutheran Women in Mission (pretend the letters match.) This is also Mite Box Sunday which you’ve heard about many times before. Loose change + prayers = support for missions here and around the world. COME AND SEE is the theme.

“Faithful Service and Suffering” will be explored on October 9th as Paul encourages Timothy in 2 Timothy 2:1-13. There will be a Voters meeting during Bible Class hour.

On October 16th, we will ponder on “The Gift of God’s Word”-what a treasure we have and often take for granted.

The 23rd Sunday after Pentecost is on October 23rd . (how about that?) Singing “Jesus Loves Me” emphasizes “Simple Enough to Know for Sure” as Jesus blesses the children in the text. There will be inserts in the bulletin on October 23&30 for you to name those in your life who have gone to with the Lord eternally since November of last year to be remembered on All Saints Sunday in November.

REFORMATION SUNDAY is October 30th! This is a WEAR RED day. Bring your bold voices to join in

singing “A Mighty Fortress is Our God”. We will be refreshed while being reminded how to “Live in His Strength”.

Remember every Sunday to greet folks you do not know with a smile, the word “welcome,” a handshake, and simple introduction. What is really helpful is to wear your NAME TAG! If you need a name tag, please contact the church office. Try this, you will like it!

OCTOBER is Clergy Appreciation Month! On Sunday, October 2nd, Pastor will be presented with the Prayer Calendar of participants who have volunteered to especially pray for Pastor and his family on a particular day in October. The week of October 9th will be greeting cards time (send to church). The week of October 16 will be “random acts of kindness”(use your imagination), and starting the 23rd will be personal note time. This is simply a special time of recognition and giving thanks to God for our Pastor and his family. We are truly grateful for him being a pastor who is faithful and true!
