Lively Finale WW Spring 2020 Race 10 Only 13 yachts ventured out of the marina for the last race of the spring. With an average wind speed of 18 knotsthe highest of all the races it proved a lively contest. The breeze steadily increased from the late morning and shifted from the south south west through the south to the south south east during the afternoon. The race was around the 9.8 nautical mile course 13 and perhaps not surprisingly it was a quick race with the last yacht finishing at 16:07:42. It was a good result for the two Beneteau Oceanis yachts in the race. The 46 foot ALLIANCE (Ron Blint) won Start of the Day and finished 2 nd in the race. First across the finish line was the Oceanis 43 WHITE SPIRIT making this her second podium finish of the spring. BACARDI (Martin Power) made up the top three by finishing third. Once again ALEX TEAM MACADIE (Jock McAdie) sailed the course in the fastest time. She has sailed 5 races and been the fastest yacht in each race. This race brought to a close a successful inaugural spring programme which saw 8 of the 10 scheduled races completed. An average of 29 yachts contested each race with 38 the maximum in race 4. There were nine different yachts that won Start of the Day either outright or in a tie. WW Spring 2020 Race 10

Only 13 yachts ventured out of the marina for the last race of the spring. With an average wind

speed of 18 knots– the highest of all the races – it proved a lively contest. The breeze steadily

increased from the late morning and shifted from the south south west through the south to the

south south east during the afternoon. The race was around the 9.8 nautical mile course 13 and

perhaps not surprisingly it was a quick race with the last yacht finishing at 16:07:42.

It was a good result for the two Beneteau Oceanis yachts in the race. The 46 foot ALLIANCE

(Ron Blint) won Start of the Day and finished 2nd in the race. First across the finish line was the

Oceanis 43 WHITE SPIRIT making this her second podium finish of the spring. BACARDI

(Martin Power) made up the top three by finishing third. Once again ALEX – TEAM MACADIE

(Jock McAdie) sailed the course in the fastest time. She has sailed 5 races and been the fastest

    yacht in each race.

This race brought to a close a successful inaugural spring programme which saw 8 of the 10

scheduled races completed. An average of 29 yachts contested each race with 38 the

maximum in race 4. There were nine different yachts that won Start of the Day either outright or

in a tie. The 8 races produced 8 different winners included in a total of 19 different podium

    finishers.

  • WHITE POINTER is one of only four

yachts to have completed all 8 races this

spring. Her win in this race by 6 minutes

36 seconds was by far the most decisive

of the programme. She started from 6th

place only 6 seconds late for her 33

    minute handicap. WHITE POINTER led

the fleet around SYC 4 for the first time

with a lead of 3 minutes 23 seconds. She

completed the last 3 legs of the course in

36 minutes 43 seconds and crossed the

finish line at 15:45:47. WHITE POINTER

finished the spring on a high with two

    podium finishes to her credit.

ALLIANCE ended her spring campaign also on a high

note. This was her 6th race and she recorded not only her

best start but also her best finish of the programme. She

started the race from 8th place only 3 seconds late for her

37 minute handicap. By the first rounding of SYC 4

ALLIANCE had moved up into 3rd place 4 minutes 42

seconds behind the leader. It took 38 minutes 37 seconds

for ALLIANCE to complete the final 3 legs of the course

and cross the finish line in 2nd place at 15:52:23.

    The Petersen 44 BACARDI

    completed 4 races this spring

recording 3 top ten including 2

    podium finishes. She started this

race from 10th place 6 seconds late

for a 48 minute handicap. She

sailed the first 4 legs of the race in

    1:02:45 – the 3rd fastest time – and

rounded SYC 4 in 9th place.

BACARDI sailed the last 3 legs in

    34 minutes 36 seconds and was 3rd

across the finish line at 15:55:27.

  • The median start time for the race was 11 seconds –

the time recorded by both DEBONNAIRE and ALEX.

No yachts stated too soon and as already mentioned

ALLIANCE won START of the DAY with a time of 3

    seconds.

The median elapsed time for this race was

    1:46:46 with a range of 56 minutes 12 seconds.

The fastest elapsed time was recorded by ALEX

who sailed the entire course in 1:32:30 – 3

minutes 33 seconds faster than it took WILLARIE

to complete the first 4 legs of the course.

WW Spring 2020 Race 10 Start of the Day

  • The race wasn’t the closest contest it

could have been. No two yachts

started from the same handicap. By

the time the fleet rounded SYC 4 for

the first time the yachts were, on

average, 1 minute 29 seconds apart.

At the finish line the yachts were, on

average, 1 minute 41 seconds apart.

The closest finish was for 8th place

    with ANDANTE1 (Keith Woodruff)

crossing the finish line 14 seconds

    ahead of PEGASUS (Andy Lynch).
