Liturgy of the Word First Reading: Isaiah 50:4-7.

I did not cover my face against insult and I know I will not be ashamed.

Response to the Psalm:

My God, my God, why have you abandoned me?

Second Reading: Philippians 2:6-11. He humbled himself to become like us and God raised him on high.

Gospel Acclamation: Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ, king of endless glory!

Christ became obedient for us even to death, dying on the cross.

Therefore God raised him on high and gave him a name above all other names.

Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ, king of endless glory!

Gospel: Luke 22:14-23:56. The passion of our Lord Jesus Christ according to Luke.

Next week: Acts 10:34,37-43, Colossians 3:1-4, John 20:1-9.

MEETINGS IN THE PARISH COTTAGE at 9am. New Members Always Welcome. 1st Sunday: Social Justice Group 2nd Sunday: St Vincent de Paul 3rd Sunday: CWL 4th Sunday: St Vincent de Paul Friday Coffee Club: After 9.00am Mass

Luke’s account of the Lord’s

passion has been put together with

great care, as this faithful disciple

of Jesus makes reference in the

course of his narrative to many of

his favourite themes: the example

of Jesus’ prayer during his ordeal

(on Calvary; for Peter); the good

news of a merciful and forgiving

God (‘Father forgive them’; ‘Today

you will be with me in paradise’);

the attitudes of true discipleship

(‘The leader must be as one who

serves’; the presence of the disciples, men and women, on Calvary – ‘at a

distance’); the great titles of the Church’s confession of faith in the Saviour are

skilfully woven into the narrative, often on the lips of those who are rejecting him

(‘Son of Man’, ‘Son of God’, ‘Christ of God’, ‘King of the Jews’, ‘Chosen One’; and

significantly it is the gentile centurion who is given the final word, ‘This was a great

and good man’).

The liturgies of Holy Week will teach us, not with fine oratory, but by recounting the

great events in which the divine Truth found expression in our human history. Let

this recognition set the tone for our participation in the liturgies of these days.

Dhaniram's story - India

Advocating for change Dhaniram is driven to help create change in his village. Through the grass-roots Hamara Haq (‘Our Rights’)project, run by Caritas India and supported by Caritas Australia, he’s gained the skills to help his community claim what’s rightfully theirs and develop their plan for a better future. Dhaniram lives with his family in a region of Central India known locally as the Tribal Belt. For generations, the tribes people have been marginalised and discriminated against. Today, they’re amongst the poorest of the poor in India. “It was because of his [Dhaniram's] untiring efforts that the 84 villagers... now have houses of their own under Indira Awas [entitlement scheme]”

Noorul, Caritas India Project Coordinator

Good Friday Collection 2016 The annual collection for the support of the church in the Holy Land takes place on Good Friday. The collection promotes the missionary work of the Church in the Holy Land by providing welfare assistance to local Christians in areas such as health, education , employment and housing.
