OLD ST. PATRICK’S CHURCH220011992021
Welcome to the 28th annual celebration of Deck the Hall!
We are so excited to be hosting our first large in-person event after almost two years! We are delighted to welcome all our long time members and friends who have been a part of this wonderful tradition for almost three decades. We are also so grateful for the participation of many new friends from around the country who have found their way to Old St. Pat’s during this pandemic time.
As the world and our society struggles to connect , we draw upon Jesus' “great commission” to bring the Good News to the world. May the songs of our tradition continue to draw us into communion with one another through the Prince of Peace who is our Hope. Since Christmas Eve 1846, people of faith have gathered in Old St. Patrick’s Church to experience and encounter the mystery of God revealed through song and ritual. In these many months when we have been separated by the challenges of COVID-19, we are so grateful for the gift of technology and the tremendous ongoing support of you, the generous people of Old St. Pat’s, for enabling us to present this concert in person and virtual.
Thank you so much for your tremendous generosity which helps us keep the mission of Old St. Pat’s thriving. Through your support, vital funds will be raised to help us enhance and grow the many ways we try to be a lifegiving, energetic community of faith here as the oldest church in the newest neighborhood of Chicago and beyond.
Whether you are here in person or watching virtually, we are so grateful for your presence. May the inspiring music of the Old St. Patrick's Concert Choir, Metropolis Symphony Orchestra, Jo Ann Daugherty Trio, the Irish Trad band and all the wonderful soloists and performers lift our spirits as we begin this most sacred time of the year.
Lastly, we would be truly honored if you would join us for our upcoming Advent and Christmas Masses and programs during this beautiful season of hope.
Every good blessing of this season,
Fr. Ken SimpsonFather Ken Simpson Administrator Old St. Patrick's Church

Joy to the world! the Lord is come;Let earth receive her King;Let every heart prepare him room,And heaven and nature sing,And heaven and nature sing,And heaven, and heaven, and nature sing.
Joy to the world! the Savior reigns;Let all their songs employ; While fields and floods, rocks, hills, and plainsRepeat the sounding joy,Repeat the sounding joy,Repeat, repeat the sounding joy.

What Sweeter MusicWords by Robert Herrick (1591–1674), Music by John Rutter
What sweeter music can we bring than a carol, for to singThe birth of this our heavenly King? Awake the voice! Awake the string!
Dark and dull night, fly hence away, And give the honor to this day,That sees December turned to May.
Why does the chilling winter's morn smile, like a field beset with corn?Or smell like a meadow newly-shorn, Thus, on the sudden? Come and see The cause, why things thus fragrant be:'Tis He is born, whose quickening birth gives life and luster, public mirth,To heaven, and the under-earth.
We see him come, and know him ours,Who, with his sunshine and his showers,Turns all the patient ground to flowers.
The darling of the world is come,And fit it is, we find a room to welcome him.The nobler part of all the house here, is the heart.Which we will give him; and bequeath this holly, and this ivy wreath,To do him honour, who's our King, and Lord of all this revelling.
What sweeter music can we bring, than a carol for to singThe birth of this our heavenly King?
Rose In DecemberWords and Music by Liam Lawton Featuring Julie Muccillo and Megan Buckley
December 12th is the Feast Day of Our Lady of Guadalupe.
In December 1531, Mary appeared to Juan Diego in the cold hills north of Mexico City. It was there that he was to build a church in her honor. As a sign to convince his doubting bishop, Mary instructed him to go in search of roses to bring to the bishop. To the surprise of all, Juan Diego found a bountiful collection of roses whose mid-winter fragrance and radiant coloring defied the rocky, snow-fallen environs.
This "Miracle of Roses", in honor of our Lady of Guadalupe, is the reason for our singing tonight!
