Objectives The objective of this session is to increase the HPELW teacher’s knowledge and teaching strategies regarding embedding literacy, math and science resources within the HPELW lesson.

Section 1: “A Compendium of Literacy Activities for HPELW
“ Implementing the HPELW Compendium of Literacy Activities handbook is critical to getting a 4-5 TEM score! “
• Embedding literacy activities that aligns to the District’s vision• Where do I go online to order sport stories?
The HPELW Compendium of Literacy Activities
• Get into groups of three’s • Thumb through the book and find an
activity that you like.• Select and practice the activity (10 min)
Section 2: “Using Sport Stories to enhance Reading” “Kids love to read a good book!”•In a small group, select a book to read and review•Provide feedback on the book(s)•Cite implications for use
Practice introducing the Story
• After reading the story practice the following introductory techniques for your students:– Activate prior knowledge– Review the story to pre-teach potentially
difficult concepts and vocabulary.
