Jewellery Care

GOLD-FILLED

Also known as rolled gold, gold-filled products are made by bonding gold with a core of brass. Gold is essentially rolled around a brass core, which explains the term “rolled gold”. Gold filled items must contain 20% gold by weight. It has 100 times more gold than gold plated and if cared for properly will last a lifetime.

VERMEIL

Sometimes called silver gilt, vermeil is a combination of sterling silver, gold and other precious metals. To be considered vermeil the gold must be at least 10 carat and be at least 1.5 micrometers thick. Today’s vermeilis produced safely by means of electrolysis, by using this heat process to adhere gold to the silver.

STERLING SILVER

Sterling refers to the silver that is 92.5% pure, which is stamped on the metal. Sterling silver is 92.5% pure silver and 7% copper. The copper is necessary for durability and strength, as 100% pure silver is too soft on its own.
