Fleetwood Action Group Following the announcement made in the press

this week that some of our local political figures will be standing for office in the forthcoming elections as candidates for Fleetwood Town Council, Chairman of Fleetwood Action Group, Tom Norton, MBE had the following to say: “My strongly held view is that we should keep our Town Council non political. When Fleetwood Town Council was first formed the leaders of Wyre’s political parties agreed that they would not put any candidates forward, taking the view that the Town Council would be independent and non–political.

Now the Conservatives have indicated that they are fielding candidates for Fleetwood Town Council. Two of our existing town councilors have also said that they are standing for election for Wyre Borough Council on a Labour ticket - as well as standing for re-election to Fleetwood Town Council as independents! Surely this cannot be right and defies common sense. At the present time we have x Wyre Borough Councilors and x Fleetwood Town Councilors. If the situation arose that we were to have a councilor on Fleetwood Town Council and the same councilor on Wyre Borough Council we would, in effect, be reducing our representation. In addition, because potential candidates are with a certain politi-cal party they are duty bound to toe the party line.

I am particularly amazed that Councilor Riley is putting up for Fleetwood Town Council after all the many objections he put forward in the campaign for its very formation. He was the leading figure against a Town Council for Fleetwood. I hope that many more independent people put up for election to Fleetwood Town Council and that the people of Fleetwood show their usual good sense by voting for them.” Bob Boal Secretary, Fleetwood Action Group.

Care & Repair - An 'A' class service for Wyre and Fylde

It’s official - Care & Repair (Wyre and Fylde) are providing a highly valued service to their clients according to an independent Supporting People review which awarded it the highest score possible.

The nine-strong professional team scored a hat-trick of all ‘As’ for developing client based services, duty of care of clients and staff and the minimum services for a Home Improvement Agency, as part of the service they provide to older, vulnerable and disabled households in both boroughs.

In the glowing review, the team were praised for their experience, competency and excellent rapport with clients. It also highlighted that the service operates to standards set by quality frameworks with clients endorsing the service.

Care & Repair provides a not-for-profit service helping older and disabled people to live more independently in their homes by making them safer and securer.

It offers free help, advice and support on everything from minor repairs such as replacing light bulbs, fitting smoke alarms, door chains and handrails to major improvements such as disabled adaptations.

Skilled caseworkers carry out home visits, arrange estimates with reliable contractors, oversee the work being done and help with form-filling for grants, benefits and insurance claims.

And small jobs around the home can be carried out free of charge by the service’s very own experienced Handy-person for the cost of the materials only.

Councillor Barry Birch, Wyre Cabinet Member with responsibility for Care & Repair, said: “Care & Repair provide a vital service to older and disabled peo-ple living in Wyre and Fylde which make

up a considerable proportion of house-holds in both boroughs.

”We are absolutely delighted, but not at all surprised, by the outstanding score which the team has achieved as it re-flects the excellent service we offer to households in need of improving their home to enhance their quality of life.

“For many the service provides a friendly face to help with little jobs around the house and putting them in touch with reliable tradespeople for all types of work. For others, it provides a lifeline helping households to access financial assistance during these difficult times to enable them to live longer in their homes and keep their independence.

“Residents can be assured that they will receive a seamless service from their initial home visit to the work being fin-ished to a high standard as highlighted in our many customers’ testimonials."

ASPIRE DEBT Unmanageable debt problems can happen quickly. Financial and personal circumstances change unexpectedly: unemployment, divorce or unexpected bills arrive, and before you realise, you are deeper and deeper in debt. You start missing minimum monthly payments, you are charged for late payments and everything can seem out of control. Afraid to open the mail and answer the telephone, your money problems escalate and stress becomes unbearable. Aspire has helped individuals for ten years. We do not lend money and are not driven by commission earned from arranging loans. We realise individual’s prob-lems are unique: our counsellers deal with the prob-lems one to one, and give the best advice to suit your circumstances. We liaise with creditors to arrange a monthly repayment and aim to freeze interest/charges on your unsecured debt thereby reducing your monthly payments and your financial stress. Our counsellors are happy to discuss your worries in complete confidence. You inform Aspire who your unsecured debts are with, we then prepare a statement of income and expenditure, calculate your

monthly surplus income to share between your unsecured creditors and negotiate an affordable monthly repayment programme with them. Life is too short for Yuto

For the adorable two year old has a critical heart condition which means he is unlikely to survive past his teens. Yuto

has spent the last couple of years in and out of hospital as doctors tried to discover what was causing his breathlessness. They finally diagnosed him with restrictive cardiomyothopy, which means he is at risk of heart failure.

As Yuto’s body is too weak to undergo a heart transplant, his devastated parents Daz and Maki Rice, have come to live with the tragic reality that every day they spend with him could be his last.

His father, Daz Rice, who runs Dazamakiz Music Shop on North Drive in Cleveleys, said: “He’s a little flame in our hearts. We just want to try to keep him as bright as possible for as long as possible. It’s inevitable he’s going to die from this. It could happen in two days, two weeks or years.

“He gets very breathless. He can’t walk, he can’t find the breath. He’s very restricted in any movement. The doctors can’t see him going past his teenage years so everyday is a bonus to us.”

The condition is said to be hereditary but Yuto’s relatives including brothers Neo, 10, and Mario, six have been tested and the results came back clear.

Yuto takes daily medication to try and stabilise his condition and give him the best quality of life he can have.

And now, after hearing about the little boy’s situation, his local councillor, Coun Andrea Kay, has decided to organise a massive fundraising event to give the tot a holiday of a lifetime and build a room downstairs in their house to accommodate Yuto’s needs.

Coun Kay is planning to hold the Yuto Fest at the Marine Hall in Fleetwood on Saturday July 9. Local bands are being invited to play during the day and wristbands for the event will be sold at £5.

Coun Kay said: “I was devastated when the family told me. Daz always helps me with any youth projects or charity events so I thought it was time we helped him and his lovely family.

“It’ll be a great day where the community can join in to make a difference.

“The Blue Pig Orchestra and the Jets are going to play, if any other bands would like to get involved they can send me a disc of their music.”

Coun Kay will also set up an account at the Royal Bank of Scotland called the Yuto Rice Appeal where people can make donations.

Mr Rice, of Barnes Drive, Cleveleys, added: “We’d like to thank everyone who is getting involved with this and praying for Yuto.”

NEVER, EVER, QUESTION A DRUNK! I was shopping at the local supermarket where I selected:

A half-gallon of 2% milk, A carton of eggs,

A quart of orange juice, A head of lettuce,

A 2 lb. Can of coffee and A 1 lb. Package of bacon

As I was unloading my items on the conveyor belt to check out, a drunk standing behind me watched as I

placed the items in front of the cashier.

While the cashier was ringing up the purchases, the drunk calmly stated-

'You must be single.'

I was a bit startled by this proclamation, but I was intrigued by the

derelict's intuition, since I indeed had never found Mr. Right. I looked at the six items on the belt and saw nothing particularly unusual about my

selections that could have tipped off the drunk to my marital status.

Curiosity getting the better of me, I said, 'Yes you are correct. But how on

earth did you know that?'

The drunk replied -- 'Cause you're ugly.'

Serves 4

Molten dulce de leche cake Preheat the oven to 180C/Gas Mark 4. Using a pastry brush, brush with butter and dust the cases with flour. Shake off the excess flour. Melt the butter in a medium saucepan over a very low heat. When the butter is just melted, remove the pan from the heat and add the dulce de leche. Whisk slowly and constantly until blended, 3-5 minutes. In another bowl, whisk the yolks and whole eggs together. Add the sugar and salt. Pour the dulce de leche mixture into the eggs and whisk well. Add the cinnamon and vanilla and continue to whisk. Add the flour and fold in gently with a rubber spatula, making sure there are no lumps. Carefully pour the mixture into the cases, filling each one almost to the top. (This can be done up to 5 days ahead and left in the fridge.) Bake the cases until the edges are set but the centre is still soft, about 6-8 minutes. (Be aware that the cake will not change much in colour during the baking time, nor will it rise.) Remember each oven is different and this is a delicate recipe. Remove the cakes from the oven. Immediately invert each case onto a plate and serve with vanilla ice cream. 115g butter, plus extra for greasing 300ml dulce de leche, at room temperature 2 large egg yolks 2 large eggs 2 tbsp sugar 1/8tsp salt 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon 1tsp vanilla extract 35g plain flour, sifted, extra for dusting 4 x 175ml foil cake cases or fluted tin cups
