LINES Kids 2020 (6 – 9 y.o.)

LINES offer a summer English programme specifically for very young learners (6 to 9 y.o.) at Downe House. The Kids Programme focuses on providing a bespoke and positive learning environment for our very young learners to develop their confidence in all aspects of their English usage, supported by specially designed group activities and excursions that offer opportunity to practice English, make friends and have fun. The Kids have their separated area, with their own classrooms (The Secret Garden), their own house and are completely segregated from all other students during meal times, lessons, activities, excursions etc.

Downe House is approximately 45 minutes from Heathrow Airport, 60 minutes from London and 45 minutes from Oxford. The school is located in the village of Cold Ash where it is surrounded by beautiful countryside. The school has private access and is set in 210 acres of forest.

LINES offer a personal meet and greet service to and from London Heathrow (other airports on request). From the moment of arrival until departure, LINES take responsibility for the welfare of each of our little students. LINES are very proud of the dedicated learning programme they have developed over the years for the Kids. The syllabus has been carefully planned to maximize opportunity to learn and practice all aspects of the English language (reading,

writing, listening and speaking) whilst supporting the specific learning and developmental needs of 6-9-year old children and encouraging them to grow their confidence when communicating in English.

The Academic Programme is at the heart of the LINES Kids experience. At Downe House, we offer Kids access to some of the finest learning facilities, with modern classrooms supervised by fully qualified and primary school experienced teachers

who have a passion for bringing language to life.

Daily Assembly with teachers and Kids Programme Director starts the day and fosters a feeling of belonging for all. The small class sizes allow teachers to give individual attention to everyone and give students the confidence to flourish and develop additional language skills through story writing, songs and role plays.

The LINES Kids Academic Programme

Students also complete weekly learning projects in groups, supported by a range of engaging and interesting excursions and complete a Daily Diary so that you can see what they have been

doing every day when they bring this home with them! The Daily Diary also allows your child to gain confidence in using the new language and vocabulary learnt, as well as their ability to express

themselves and their feelings through language.

LINES run their own activity programme for Kids.

Activities are not only an essential part of the daily programme but they add value to learning in a non-formal way. Active learning is a great medium through which the language learned can be used. By participating in activities, students learn to engage with each another and have fun as a group.

The LINES Activities

Excursions are an integral part of the academic programme at LINES.

The Kids programme includes up to 4 themed excursions a week. Students undertake the excursions along with their teacher and classmates.

While excursions form an important part of the learning process, they also provide a cultural experience for each student. The excursions are outlined below. These are a sample of the places students visit while

attending LINES. All excursions are included in the fee. Please note that these are subject to change.

Kids 2020 Excursion Programme

West End Musicals are a must when visiting one of the world’s biggest cities, London. It is world famous for its top West End shows, people travel from everywhere to experience breathtaking performances from some of the best leading

actors. Every Saturday, we give our students the opportunity to do the same! The West End Musical is also an experience not to be missed: the bright lights and bustle of London’s Theatre district

gives our students the opportunity to see the real London at its very best. Our dedicated staff will make sure that our students fully enjoy their musical experience: before the afternoon matinee show, all students will have a fast food meal and our staff then accompany them to the theatre and make sure that they find and settle into their seats to watch a

performance they will remember forever!

The musical experience takes place on the following dates. Students will leave Downe House around 10 am to spend the morning in London before going to the musical. With the shows normally finishing around 17.00, students will be back at Downe House in time for evening story time, bath and bed!
