Principal’s Report
Welcome Back!
Welcome back to the final term for 2017. This is always an exciting
term as we celebrate the successes of the year, meet our new Kindy
students, conclude the academic programs for the year and
commence our planning for 2018. I hope that you all enjoyed a
restful break and spent some time in the lovely sunshine with family
and friends.
New Acknowledgement of Country
With input from Dave Lardner (Aboriginal Education Consultant), our
indigenous students and student leaders, LPS now has its own
unique Acknowledgement of Country. It was first recited at our
‘Around the World in 30 Classrooms’ celebration and will now be
incorporated into all school events. Here it is:
‘We would like to acknowledge the Guringai people who are the
traditional owners of this land. Their stories, knowledge and
spirituality is a living culture that flows through this country. Our
school overlooks the Lane Cove River from the top of the hill and we
thank Indigenous people for taking care of this place for countless
generations. We pay our respect to Elders, both past and present
and to other Aboriginal people here today.’
KS Assembly
In the last week of term, KS shared their learning about Fairy Tales
and sang ‘What I Am’. They created and drew their own fairy tale
character which they shared with the assembly. Well done KS!
Year 5 Poetry Workshops
Students from Year 5 had the opportunity to watch some Year 10 Drama students from Killara High
School perform different poems. The Year 10 students also taught the Year 5 students some Drama
warm up techniques and how to conquer nerves in front of an audience. After the performance, the
Year 10 students and Miss Alicia O’Donnell, a Drama teacher from Killara High School, worked with
selected Year 5 students. During this workshop the Year 10 students taught the Year 5 students how
they can use different performance techniques to perform poems themselves. Thanks to Miss Fiona
Gibb for organising this valuable experience.
Congratulations Mrs Chapman!
During the holidays, our Teacher Librarian Miss Renee Liddell celebrated her wedding and looked
beautiful! She has changed her name and will now be known as Mrs Chapman.
Infants Dance Troupe Champions to be on television this Sunday
The glass trophy was presented to our Infants Dance Troupe champions at an assembly last term. They
were awarded third place in the People’s Choice category at the Dance of Champions which will
televised this Sunday 15 October at 12:30pm on Channel 10. Be sure to watch this spectacular
performance!

LPS Dance-a-thon…less than 4 weeks to go!
The Dance-a-thon is back! After the success of the Halloween Dance-a-thon
in 2016, this year we will again be dancing the night away with the LPS
Dance-a-thon on Friday 3 November. The aim of the Dance-a-thon is to get
as many sponsors as possible and each sponsorship is worth $10. The class
and individual with the most sponsorship will win a prize!
The classes in K-2 and 3-6 that gain the highest sponsorships will have a Pool
Party at lunch! Today your child will receive his or her sponsorship card for the
event. We will share the individual prize list in next week’s Lindfield Lines.
Here are just a few costume examples!
Presentation Day Assemblies: Save the Dates!

IB Tour
At the end of Term 3 our Intermediate Band visited Galston Public School and Glenorie Public School. Both schools were entertained by our band and were very impressed by their talent. Thank you to Miss Nero for attending and to our wonderful parent organiser and helpers.
Calendar Available on Our School Website Our School Website Calendar is updated regularly and includes important dates up to the end of the
year. Year 6 parents in particular may want to lock in some of the end of year dates as we have some
exciting celebrations planned.
PSSA and Rec Sport Begin This Week This week students in Summer PSSA (Modball, Cricket and Touch Football) will recommence training and games. Recreational Sport, Basketball, Tennis, Rock Climbing, Zumba/Yoga, Table Tennis and Swimming will commence on Friday. Students must return their permission slips by Thursday afternoon. There are still a few spots left in the swimming group if you would like your child to take part.
Selective High School and Extension Class Testing Today students in Year 5 received a note about Selective High School. All ‘Intention to apply for Year 7
entry to a selective high school in 2019’ forms need to be returned to Miss Mustaca. A reminder that the
Extension Class Testing days are next week on Tuesday and Wednesday during class time. If students
are unable to sit the tests, they will not be eligible for the extension class.
Twins and Triplet SRC Mufti Day The Student Representative Council (SRC) has organised a mufti day for this Thursday. The theme is 'Twin and Triplet Day' and students can dress the same as a friend or a group of friends. Their class may decide they all want to dress alike! Students can wear the same coloured t-shirt, dress exactly the same or wear their hair in the same way and are encouraged to bring in a gold coin donation. All proceeds will go towards the Mark Hughes Foundation to raise funds for brain cancer research.
The 'Tell Them From Me' Parent Feedback Survey This term our school will be participating in the Partners in Learning parent survey. Your valuable feedback will help guide decisions around the future directions of our school as we are in the process of putting together the LPS School Plan 2018 - 2020. The survey will typically take 15 minutes or less to complete and is completely confidential. Although participating in the survey is entirely voluntary, your responses are very much appreciated. To access the LPS Parent Survey please go to: https://nsw.tellthemfromme.com/lps2017 Thank you for your time in completing this survey as part of our consultation phase for the School Plan.

Anaphylaxis at Lindfield Public School
At Lindfield Public School in 2017, we have a small number of children with a potentially life
threatening allergic reaction. They are found across our school from Kindergarten to Year 6.
How can parents help these children?
If possible, choose alternative sandwich spreads to peanut butter and Nutella. If
you have no alternative, inform your child that these foods can trigger an
anaphylactic reaction.
Reinforce the school’s NO FOOD SHARING message.
Library
Welcome back! We hope everyone had a wonderful, restful break.
Last term we ordered 10 new iPads just for our use in the Library and they have arrived! This doubles
the amount of technology available in the Library and will revolutionise our lesson content. Technology is
a key aspect of Library programs and these iPads will allow for smaller group sizes when sharing our
resources and will greatly increase the learning opportunities available. Once they are loaded and
operational, we will begin using them in Library lessons.
What’s happening this term?
In Library lessons, Kindergarten will have the opportunity to explore the different types of fiction and non-
fiction texts available in our Library. The books selected to be read will complement themes and topics
being taught in class as they begin to develop a deeper understanding of the purpose and types of fiction
and non-fiction texts and how to differentiate between them.
Stage 1 students will begin learning some basic information literacy skills using non-fiction digital
materials. Together with the teacher librarians, the students will be jointly analysing and decoding World
Book Kids encyclopaedia articles to answer accompanying comprehension-based questions. This will
help to build on their ability to read a text, process it and understand its meaning in order to succesfully
answer relevant questions.
Stage 2 students will be putting into practice the
Guided Inquiry Design Process skills they were
taught in Library last term. The process aims to
build information literacy strategies in order to
effectively search for and evaluate information
from a diverse range of both physical and
electronic material, giving them the ability to
become independent learners and decision
makers. Using these research skills, the students
will work towards producing an assignment
consolidating knowledge investigated on world
celebrations.
Stage 3 will continue to use their Library time for
borrowing and quiet reading time only.
Borrowing for Kindergarten to Year 5 will stop at
the end of Week 8. Year 6 will be restricted to
classroom use only from the beginning of Week 8
to ensure all books are returned before they are off
to high school!
Happy reading!

Birthday bucket bonanza
We celebrated a lot of birthdays at the end of last term with eight birthday
buckets alone on the last day of term! If you have a birthday coming up why not
get a treat for the whole class from the Canteen and we’ll deliver it and make
their day. The birthday bucket contains frozen juice treats for the whole class and
for the birthday child, a Canteen voucher for a treat of their choice.

SAVE THE DATE: LINDFIELD LAPS!
SUNDAY 5 NOVEMBER
Join us for the pool’s major fundraiser of the year. We need the whole school community involved – students, ex-students, parents, teachers and friends of LPS. How does it work? A team of swimmers complete as many laps of the pool as they can in 40 minutes. There is no minimum or maximum number of laps that each team member may swim. Who can be in my team? Anybody! A team has a maximum of 5 members and can be your friends, mum, dad, grandparents, aunt, uncle, siblings… Do I need to be a good swimmer? No! We’ve had young ones on noodles, fabulous grandparents and everyone in-between. It’s about having fun with friends and family and raising much needed funds for our school pool.

Chess
Welcome back for the last (but not least) term of the year! Well done to all the kids who went and competed in the NSW JCL tournaments in the holidays, especially young Kiran, Wansi and Curtis. Having completed most of our internal school tournaments last term (the Senior Tournament still to complete) our attention now turns to the NSW JCL One Day State Tournament (Tuesday 7 November) and the Schools Chess Challenge (Sunday 29 October), with the aim of bringing back some giant sized trophies… the smaller the game, the larger the trophy!? Lastly, we will start organising our membership for next year - if anyone is discontinuing or moving to another school do please let us know.

New homes for pre-loved
children’s books
Thank you for your generous pre-loved
books for the Australian Literacy and
Numeracy Fund. The Children’s Social
Justice Group did a great job sorting many
boxes of donated childrens books one
lunchtime at the end of term.
I dropped a car load of the book boxes into ALNF in Edgecliff. The ALNF were really grateful for the fantastic books and said they would be sent to help children in Indigenous, refugee and marginalised communities around Australia.
Lucky Winners
Congratulations to our lucky winners who shared in the prize draw of $100 Fruit Ezy, $50 Peters Meats,
$20 Quattro Deli and $20 Pasta Pantry vouchers. Thank you to these supportive Chatswood Chase
businesses. Prizes were issued to children in the last week of term.
The $558 raised on Dads Games Day and at the election day social justice stall will support 100%
hOPE, Uganda. They are building a home for girls so they don’t need to sleep in classrooms.
Spring Clean Winter Woolies!
The Children’s Social Justice Group would like to collect warm winter coats and fleeces for kids.
Please gather spare warm winter clothing and we will collect it for those in need - details will be in
Lindfield Lines next week.
Thank you for your support.
