Three Regions of the Thirteen Colonies

• New England- ME; NH; MA; and CT.• Mid- Atlantic-PA; NY; NJ; MD; and DE.• Southern-VA;NC; SC; and GA.

What made each socioeconomic region unique?•New England had a process called the “ Triangular Trade”. Also, they were known for shipbuilding, lumber and fish.•In the Middle Colonies there were big cities such as Philadelphia and New York were major shipping hubs. There were craftsmen such as blacksmiths, silversmiths, cobblers, wheelwrights, wigmakers, milliners, and others contributed to the economies of such cities. Also, they were known for shipbuilding and trading.

• In the Southern Colonies the soil was perfect for farming, and the growing season was longer. Also they were known for tobacco, rice ,indigo, and tar from pine trees.

SlaveryWhy did this practice come to America?It came to America because colonists didn’t want to do their work, so they bought slaves to do it for them.

Which region became most dependent upon it and why?The South because there were a lot of cotton and tobacco crops so farmers bought slaves for extra help on the plantations.

ShelterHouses in the colonial times were built with bricks, wood, stones, and mud bricks. They had wooden shingles, not like the ones we have today. If you were poor you would live in a one room home, middle class lived in a two room house with an attic, and rich families lived on plantations or mansions.
