CHANGE
Ryan Ham 11/30/2011
BACKGROUND
We are the rain forests of
the ocean
Supports
thousands of
species in tropical
and sub-tropical
waters
Reefs provide
home and shelter
to over 25% of
fish in the ocean.
Coral reefs also
provide economic
services such as
jobs, food, and
tourism
THE PROBLEM
Climate change
causes coral bleaching
which destroys coral
reefs
Reefs take hundreds
of years to recover
from the effects of
coral bleaching
SOLUTION
NOAA, EPA, and the state of
Florida have joined together
to create the Florida Keys
National Marine Sanctuary
Reefs will survive
longer when they
are considered part
of a larger system
