Lexmark Cebu

Lexmark Cebu, established in 2001, consists of Research and Development and the Cebu Competence Center—an organization that manages global end-to-end processes.

With innovation and excellence at its core, Lexmark influences its employees to create a long-term impact to the community. By providing financial and technical resources, the company shapes and helps advance the technical competencies of the future Filipino workforce.

CitizenshipLexmark strives to be a good corporate citizen. Lexmark Cebu embraces the local community and has a reputation for providing invaluable support in a number of ways. Diversity and inclusionAs a global company, Lexmark's goal is to have a highly diverse and vibrant workplace that understands and is responsive to the needs of our employees, customers and part-ners around the world. Health and safetyEmployee health and safety is also a Lexmark priority. Lexmark Cebu's occupational health and safety management system is certified under OHSAS 18001 and is in the process of transitioning to ISO 45001 certification.

Work-life balanceLexmark Cebu is loyally committed to workplace flexibility and strongly encourages work-life bal-ance. Lexmark Cebu has an in-house clinic for medical consultation and treatment. Employees and their qualified dependents can take advantage of their services during clinic hours, free of charge. Medicines for common illnesses are available at the clinic, and first aid is provided by a full-time company nurse for minor medical problems. All employees are required to undergo an Annual Medical Examination. In addition, Lexmark offers medical coverage for its regular employees and the employees' qualified dependents. Accommodating mothers’ rooms are also available for new mothers, providing a private, clean area for their conve-nience. During the COVID-19 pandemic, as Lexmark Cebu temporarily activated Work from Home, the Clinic Management team implemented the Telecon-sultation Process.

Lexmark strives to establish and provide safe, secure and healthy working conditions and rea-sonable facilities for the employees. The company abides with the applicable laws as defined in the Labor Code of the Philippines. With Cebu opera-tions requiring employees to work at night based on their role, sleeping quarters are available where they can stay prior to their shift, on break or when it is unsafe to head home.

Aside from the semi-flex schedules, casual dress code, open door policy and a fun working envi-ronment, everyone has the option to participate in extracurricular activities. Lexmark has various clubs, including the football club, basketball club, Toastmasters Club, runners club, music club, and more.

The Lexmark Break Room and Music Lounge is available for breaks. Employees can come together around their shared passions. These relationships are cultivated so that employees can discover, col-laborate, experiment and invent using their talents throughout Lexmark Cebu, and challenge them-selves to be the best they can be both personally and professionally.

In 2019, Lexmark Cebu signed on to become an official member of Philippine Financial & Inter-Industry Pride (PFIP), a collaborative, vol-untary, and nonprofit community of practice composed of dedicated representatives from LGBT+ Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) or Human Resource/Diversity teams of various private companies in the Philippines. PFIP aims to foster an industry that is safe and inclusive for LGBT+ people.

For the second year, the Gay-Straight Alliance of Lexmark Employ-ees (GALE) - Cebu Chapter joined the 6014 Mandaue Pride March in 2019, attended by at least 85 LGBTQIA+ organizations from all over

CommunityDisaster reliefThe Philippine region is vulnerable to natural hazards, such as earthquakes, typhoons, fires, floods, landslides and volcanic ac-tivity. Lexmark has a history of providing relief to those affected by disasters through monetary and in-kind donations. Since 2014, Lexmark Cebu, in coordination with the Bureau of Fire Protection and Filipino Chinese Volunteer Fire Brigade, has provided water to responding fire trucks during emergencies. To date, over 130 fire trucks have been provided water to assist with fire emergencies in neighboring communities.

In 2019, after a series of strong earthquakes struck Tulunan, North Cotabato, affecting over 30,000 families, Lexmark Cebu, in partnership with the Humanity & Inclusion Philip-pines and Indonesia organization and the Disabled Peoples Organization of Makilala Municipality, provided food and nonfood items to 174 families with disabled persons in seven evacuation centers and communities in Makilala, Tulunan and M’lang municipalities. Lexmark also provided disaster relief support in response to Hur-ricane Florence, Typhoon Mangkhut and the Naga landslide. Building homesSince 2006, Lexmark Cebu has partnered with Gawad Kalinga, a Philippine organization with a mission to end poverty. As part of this partnership, Lexmark has donated time and money to construct homes and meet other community needs in the Lexmark Gawad Kalinga-Minglanilla village. To date, Lexmark volunteers have completed construction of 100 homes, a playground and a basketball court. Employees continually improve this area through painting and beautification projects. A little over 1,000 ecobricks were used at the Lexmark Gawad Kalinga village playground and basketball court to help refresh the area.

In addition to the physical support of this community, employees help encourage the community through celebration. For example, the Gay-Straight Alliance of Lexmark Employees (GALE) Cebu celebrated the Christmas Tree Lighting ceremony at the Lexmark Gawad Kalinga Village in Minglanilla.

EducationLexmark has a corporate focus on science, technology, engineer-ing and mathematics (STEM) education. This educational focus is shared across the globe, including Cebu. Each year, an average of 1,000 students across the Philippines take part in the Lexmark educational tour program, where Lexmark engineers teach them about Lexmark’s world-class facility and laboratories. Volunteers have provided Hipodromo Elementary School support through the years, including helping the school develop and promote recycling initiatives. They have also helped clean and restore the school’s vegetable garden to prepare for the Depart-ment of Education’s vegetable produc-tion program “Gulayan sa Paarala,” which addresses malnutrition by promot-ing vegetable production and school-based feeding among public school children. Approximately 500 ecobricks from the plastic waste reduction project were used in the garden restoration. Lexmark Cebu, together with other com-panies, participated in the “Computer Engineering as a Discipline” forum for freshmen students in the Department of Computer Engineering of University of San Carlos. Lexmark has embraced data science. To strengthen its support of digital transformation, foster an environment of digital literacy and a culture of innovation, Lexmark Cebu, in collaboration with the Philippine Android Developers Community (PADC), Google Developers Group (GDG) Cebu, and DevCon Cebu, proudly spon-sored the Python 3 Workshop and Kotlin/Everywhere: Cebu.

Land and biodiversity/sustainability Lexmark is especially sensitive to the environment in our Philip-pine operations. Many global organizations recognize the entire country as an area of high biodiversity. Lexmark employees in the Philippines work diligently to restore habitats near these facilities, focusing on reforestation and watershed protection. Since 2008, Lexmark has planted 138,000 mangrove trees in various coastal and watershed areas of Cebu and nearly 17,000 tree seedlings in various areas of Cebu.

Lexmark celebrates International Coastal Cleanup Day by volunteer-ing with the Philippine Coast Guard Auxiliary and other organiza-tions in a coastal cleanup event. Organized by the Ocean Conser-vancy, this event engages people to remove trash from the world’s beaches and waterways, identify the sources of debris, and change behaviors. Lexmark Cebu launched a plastic waste reduction project in 2019. Plastic waste materials are used to create ecobricks, which are plastic bottles packed to a set density with used, clean and dry plastic, creating a building block that can be used again and again. Employees created over 1,500 ecobricks for donation in the first year of the project. Lexmark Cebu participates in Earth Hour annually, reporting esti-mated energy savings of over 10,000 kWh and over 7,000 kg CO2e of emission reduction. Supporting both education and the environment, Lexmark Cebu’s Print & Share team in the Research and Development organization partnered with the Department of Education Alternative Learning System (ALS) team to minimize waste by printing useful instructional materials, including questionnaires and answer sheets, as part of print testing to save an estimated 27,000 reams of paper waste. Environmental management Lexmark Cebu cares about the environment and is guided by their environmental management system which is third-party certified to ISO 14001. WaterWith a focus on sustainable resource management and knowledge that Cebu, Philippines, is in a region of water risk, water preserva-tion is important. Lexmark Cebu focuses on preventive and correc-tive maintenance of the water system and works to engage em-ployees in awareness activities to conserve water and report leaks. Major water projects over the years have included the installation of sensor-operated faucets and toilet bowls and the interconnection

of the water supply between the two buildings on site to reduce water waste. The focus on water doesn’t end with the site. Lexmark employees designed and installed a rainwater harvesting system in the Lex-mark Gawad Kalinga community. The water collected during rain events can be used by the locals for watering plants and cleaning. Employees are continually improving this system, installing a meter on this system to monitor water use. They also provided plumb-ing assistance to this community by fixing water leaks via piping upgrades in an area supplying 105 households with water. Addition-ally, employees in Cebu designed and installed another rainwater catchment system with a 1,000-liter tank capacity to support at least 20 families in Cantipla Barangay, whose water source is a spring located 300 meters away by vehicle.

Energy consumptionSustainable consumption of energy is also a focus on site. The facil-ities team in Cebu has realized significant energy savings over the years through lighting upgrades and implementation of an opera-tion and preventive maintenance schedule for all major equipment, which minimizes equipment downtime and improves performance, especially for on-site chillers. Equipment such as generators are optimized to help machines run more efficiently and proactive main-tenance is performed, such as the elimination of compressed dry air leaks, to improve the operation of compressors. Energy savings related to temperature control include the building management system, whose software has been upgraded to provide real-time monitoring and room temperature control based on established site guidelines. Existing window blinds have been replaced with block-out blinds designed to reduce heat generated from the glass win-dows, further aiding room temperature control. Variable frequency drives (VFDs) installed on air handling units also curb energy usage. Employees get involved by being energy conscious and turning off lights and equipment when they are not in use.
